Chapter 26

Location: SWAMINARAYAN MANDIR, MUD ISLAND (FICTITIOUS NAME) 7:45pm
Maan was strolling to and fro like a caged lion in the temple waiting for Geet.
"Maan aapke yun chel-kadami se Geet jaldi toh nahi aayegi. Woh do ghante pehle chal diye hain magar city ke traffic mein phass gaye hain. Sabr rakhiye!" (Maan by walking to and fro, Geet is not going to come earlier. She has already left 2 hours before but has got caught in traffic jam. Please try and be patient!)
"Nani, aap Maan bhai ko sabr rakhne ko keh rahi hain jo Bhabhi ko lekar bahut besabre hain!" (Grandma, you are asking Maan bhai to be patient who is very impatient for bhabhi!) Pari teased Maan making everyone laugh.
Embarassed Maan tried to distract his family by getting annoyed at Vicky, "Vicky, please see where we are getting best 4G signal so Daarji aur Dadaji can see the whole wedding without disturbance."
Vicky was given responsibility of where he can get best reception of 4G so he can do face time and show Daarji and Thakur Amardeep in the Presidential Suite of the hospital. Thakur Amardeep and Lala Gurucharan Singh wanted to attend the wedding in person at the temple but Geet refused. She said, "Daddu aur Daarji, agar aap dono ko inki aur meri shaadi mandir mein aa kar dekhani hai toh hum do mahine baad shaadi kar sakte." (Daddu and Daarji, if you are keen to see our wedding sitting in the temple, fine. Maan and I will postpone our wedding by two months!)
"KYA??" "KYA??" (WHAT?) Both Thakur Amardeep and Lala Gurucharan Singh exclaimed horrified.
"Aur nahi toh kya? Abb dono cheezein toh ho nahi sakti ki aap humari shaadi mandir mein bhi dekhen aur woh jaldi bhi ho! Aap decide karka mujhe batta dijiyega. Abhi mai chalti hoon. Aap dono ke paas do ghante hain decide karne ke liye." (Why not? You can't get both things, that is to see our wedding sitting in the temple as well as our wedding is performed as soon as possible. You both decide and let me know what you want. You have two hours!)
Maan was also present as he had got Thakur Amardeep to the hospital to meet Lala Gurucharan Singh. Maan was also horrified by Geet's this stance. He gave Geet an annoyed look but she with her eyes asked him to follow her. In privacy of her cabin, Maan burst in anger "Yeh tumne kya kiya Mishty? Agar Daarji aur Dadaji ne humari shaadi mandir mein dekhne ki phir zidd kari toh? Mai abb tumhare se aur door nahi rahonga chahe samaj aur parivarwale kuch bhi kahen" (What have you done Mishty? If Daarji aur Dadaji insist to see our wedding sitting in the temple then what? I now cannot stay away from you any longer and will not change my mind irrespective of what society and our families think!)
"Aap ko door rehane ki koi zarurat nahi. Kyunki Daddu aur Daarji zidd nahi karenge." (You don't have to stay away from me as Daddu and Daarji will not insist!)
"Matlab?" (Meaning?)
"Woh dono chahte hain ki hum dono ki shaadi jald se jald ho jaaye iss se pehle ki mai apna mann phir badal doon. Aur aapko mere kareeb aane se kaun ro sakta hai aap toh mere pati hai." (They both desperately want both of us to get married as soon as possible, before I change my mind again. And who can stop you from coming close to me? You are my husband.) Maan raised his eyebrow questioningly, "Aapne toh meri maang teen (3) saal pehle hi bhar chuke hain." (You have filled by hair parting three years back!) Geet said blushing. Maan gathered Geet in his embrace making both Maan and Geet contended in each others closeness. Just then there was a knock and both restless souls had to part.
Geet had wanted Neil and Raagini to come and do her Kanyadaan as with Daarji being in hospital, Beeji alone could not do it. But it was difficult for Neil and Raagini to come at such a short notice, hence it was decided that being the eldest brother, Rudra will do the "Kanyadaan". Finally the bride with her family arrived. Janaki, Pari and Meera at once rushed Geet inside a room in the temple premises so Maan cannot see Geet before their pheras, much to Maan's irritation. Janaki, Pari and Meera in the room were doing few touch ups to Geet's makeup and making her wear jewellery etc. As Manu and Mini had also got up, they were also fed and dressed.
Both were looking very cute. Mini refused to move from in front of the mirror!
Outside in the main temple arena seeing Jassi, Adi kept starring at her and then getting a sudden memory flashback, he came near her and touched Jassi's feet, "Nani aap aakhir mujhe baiees (22) saal baad mil hi gayeen." (Grandma, I finally found you after 22yrs.)
"NANI? Tum kaun ho puttar?" (Grandmother? Who are you my son?)
"Main Simran aur Rajeev Malhotra ka beta hoon, jo dus saal ki umar mein mele mei kho gaya tha." (I'm Simran and Rajeev Malhotra's son. Who got lost in village fair.)
"Kya? Tum Simran ke bete ho? Beta tum kahan the itne saal?" (What? You are Simran's son? Where were you for so many years?)
"Jab mai kho gaya thaa, mujhe uss mele mei ek bahut hi bhale aur acche log mile, Mr. & Mrs. Sharma jo mujhe pehle Police Station le gaye. Kyunki mei siwaiye Nanaji ke naam aur ki mai Amritsar ke paas ek gaon mein rehta thaa usse zyaada mujhe kuch nahi maloom thaa iss liye Police bhi aap logon ko doondh nahi paayi. Toh uss bin bacche ke dampati yaani mere Bauji aur Maa ne mujhe godh le liya. Unhone mujhe bahut pyaar aur acchi shiksha de jiss wajeh se aaj mei Khurana Construction ka Accounts Department ka head. Aur Dadaji aur Ram Sir ne mujhe bahut pyaar aur izzat di. Maan Sir ne mujhe apna dost bannaya. Nani, yeh toh battaiye ki meri Guddo kaisi hai?" (When I got lost in the fair, I was helped by a very nice and decent couple, Mr. & Mrs. Sharma who first took me to Police Station. But as I didn't know anything beside grandfather's name and that we live in a village near Amritsar, Police couldn't do much. Then that childless couple, I mean my Bauji and Maa adopted me. They gave me lot of love and good education so I could join Khurana Construction. Now I'm Head of Accounts Department. Where Dadaji and Ram Sir gave me lot of love and respect, Maan Sir and I became close friends. Grandma, now tell me how is my Guddo?)
Savitri Devi, Ram, Rudra, Maan, Abhishek, Lucky and Vicky were listening to this conversation shocked.
"Arre aaj teri Guddo hi ki toh shaadi hai!" (Oh, today is Guddo's marriage!)
"Shaadi?? Matlab jo Maan Sir ki honewali patni hai woh meri..." (Marriage?? That means Maan Sir's future wife is my...)
"Haan! Haan, wohi teri Guddo hai. Aakhir tu ne hi toh usse "Guddo" naam diya thaa." (Yes! Yes that's your Guddo. Afterall you were the one to name her "Guddo".)
By now both from Adi and Jassi's eyes tears were flowing like Ganga-Jamuna (rivers). Jassi introduced Rudra, Abhishek and Lucky to Adi. Jassi also told about Lalaji i.e. that currently he was in the hospital.
Just then Abhishek's phone rang and seeing the number, he went a little distance away to recieve the call. He made sure that Geet was nowhere near. "Haan bolo Hawaldaar Pinto. Haan...Haan..
Theek hai mai dhyaan rakhonga! Tum Police force ki ek team Swaminarayan Mandir ke bahaar tainat kar do civil kapadon mein. Aaj kissi bhi tehara usse pakadhna hi hai. Accha mai rekhta hoon." (Yes what is it Constable Pinto? Yes...Yes...Alright I'll be careful! You get a team of Police Force stationed outside Swaminarayan Mandir in civil dress! We have to definitely catch him today. I'm calling off now!)
"Abhishek, Hawaldaar Pinto kya keh raha thaa? Kya Brij phir dekha gaya hai?" (Abhishek what is Constable Pinto saying? Has Brij been spotted again?) Maan questioned seeing Abhishek's tense face.
"Ji Veerji. Geet kahan hai?" (Yes. Where is Geet?)
"Chinta matt karo Abhishek! Geet Maa, Pari aur Meera ke saath Mandir ke ek kamre mein tyaar ho rahi hai!" (Don't worry Abhishek! Geet is getting ready with Maa, Pari and Meera in a room in temple premises!)
"Hawaldaar Pinto keh raha thaa ki Brij ko Swaminarayan Mandir ke aas paas dekha gaya hai. Maine Police force ko bulaya hai. Magar hummein dekhna hai ki kissi bhi tehara yeh baat Gudiya ko patta naa chale!" (Constable Pinto was saying that Brij was spotted around Swaminarayan Temple. I have asked for Police Force. But we all have to see that Geet doesn't come to know about this!) By now Rudra, Lucky and Vicky had also joined the group and understood the seriousness of the situation.
Just then Panditji called, "Var ko bulaiye!" (Call the bridegroom!) Panditji, who was a 75yr. old man was considered very auspicious and pious priest to perform marriages! He started the ceremony, once Maan came and sat on the left side of the mandap and the panditji asked Maan to perform some rites. Then Geet was called, "Vadhu ko bulaiye!" (Call the bride!) and was made to sit on Maan's right side.
Soon Rudra was called for Geet's "Kanyadaan."
Adi, Abhishek and Lucky jointly did the "Kheeldaan" on Geet's request. Pari tied the "Gatbandhan" as she was Maan's sister!
Pheras started followed by "sindoor daan"
and tieing of "mangalsutra".
Geet felt complete that she and her soul has been tied to Maan for next 7 births! Maan was at peace getting his love, his life and his junoon (obsession)! Both restless souls were finally at peace. They went and touched Dadimaa's feet, then Ram's, Janaki's and finally panditji's feet.
Geet had just finished touching feet of elders, and when she looked up she found a face with an evil and smug look starring in her direction scarring her just like it had 10yrs. back. She immediately clung to Maan who was standing next to her in fear saying,
"Woh..aaa...ga..yaa...mujhe...maarne...mujhe...ba...cch...aiye!" (He..has...come...to...kill...me...save...me!)
"Kaun aa gaya? Battao Geet!" (Who has come? Please tell me Geet!)
"Woh...BRIJ! Ple...ase...Maan...p...l...e...a...s...e." (That...BRIJ!) Then she became limp.
Looking down, Maan found that Geet had fained. Abhishek gave orders on his walkie-talkie, "BRIJ YAHEEN HAI! Poori jageh ki talaashi lo. ABHI ISSI WAQAT! Mujhe woh jald se jald apni custody mei chahiye ZINDAA YAA MURDAA !" (Brij is here! Search the whole area thoroughly. I want him in our custody as soon as possible, DEAD OR ALIVE!)
Meanwhile, Maan with Savitri Devi, Jassi, Janaki, Pari and Meera took Geet inside the room where she had got dressed. Followed by Lucky and Vicky carrying crying Manu and Mini as they were disturbed seeing their mother unwell for the first time. Before leaving Maan told Savitri Devi and Janaki, "Dadimaa aur Maa, aaj Geet aur mai baccho ke saath farmhouse jaayenge, hotel nahi!" (Dadimaa and Maa, today Geet me and children will return to our farmhouse and not hotel !)
"Magar beta Geet kaa "grahpravesh"?" (But Maan, what about Geet's "grahpravesh"?) Janaki questioned.
"Maa abhi Geet ki security se zyaada zaruri aur kuch nahi. Aap log zara Geet aur bacchon ko sambhaliye mai thodi der mein aata hoon!" (Maa just now Geet's security is most important. You ladies see to Geet and children, I'll return soon!)
Leaving Geet and children with the ladies, Maan, Vicky and Lucky joined Ram, Rudra and Abhishek. In this chaos no one realised that Face time is still connected thereby making Thakur Amardeep and Lala Gurucharan Singh aware of all that is on going on. Lala Gurucharan Singh after seeing and hearing Ram, Rudra and Abhishek's conversation first time understood his folly by making Brij come to his home often without any kind of protection for Geet and Rajji. Lalaji broke down saying, "Amar, mujhe kabhi nahi maloom thaa ki iss Brij ke mann mei meri phool si Gudiya ke liye itne ghinone vichaar the. Rudra humesha mujhse ladta thaa jab mai Brij ko khaane ke liye bulata thaa magar mai bewakoof samajh hi nahi paaya. Usne meri Guddo ka apharan tak kar liya. Koi munda itna kaise gir sakta hai?" (Amar, I never even once realised that Brij has such disgusting thoughts about my innocent Gudiya. Rudra use to always fight with me whenever I use to call Brij home for dinner, but I was stupid not to understand Rudra's concern. Brij even kidnapped my Gudiya. How can a boy stoop so low!)
"Tu apna dil chota matt kar Laale. Vasana ke aage har rishtaa jhoota ho jaata hai." (You don't feel disheartened. In front of lust, one ignores all niceities and relationships!)
"Nahi mai galat thaa isse maan ne mei mujhe koi shram nahi. Kaash mai Rudra ki baat pehle hi sunn leta!" (I don't feel ashamed in admitting my mistakes. I wish I would have listened to Rudra earlier!)
