CHAPTER 2
ABC School of Management and Accountancy
"Can you please let me know the time Maan Sir?" Adi said.
Giving him his signature angry look, Maan hissed in a low voice.
"Oh Please Adi, cut the crap. How many times do I have to tell you NOT to call me *S-I-R* outside office?" He said with a sign filled with irritation cursing himself as to why he was even there in the first place.
All because of that girl. He wondered how he could have even considered befriending her. Bewakoof Larki!!! Although deep inside he knew he was faulty himself.
Well this was Maan, or should we say Maan Singh Khurana, the eldest son of Mr Vikram Singh Khurana and currently the Ag. CFO of KCABA (Khurana Chartered Accountant and Business Advisors).
Being the eldest son of the youngest generation of The Khurana clan, Maan was considered the ultimate heir. However, despite the family business, Maan was more inclined towards psychology. After all, where is the satisfaction in obtaining everything on a platter? Having always dreamt of becoming a Psychologist, Maan worked hard all throughout his academic years for that purpose. All was going on smoothly with his internship when one day Mr VSK passed away after meeting with an accident. Being the eldest *man* in the house after his father, Maan became the one to shoulder all responsibilities as well as take over KCABA. Although he had his twin siblings Vicky and Annie by his side, he knew they were too young for those responsibilities. And then Dadima was too old to handle business matters. As such, the ultimate sacrifice had to come from his side.
He decided to take over his dad's place in KCABA. With no qualifications and expertise in that domain, all the workload eventually took a toll on Maan. He usually took out his frustration on his staffs, more specifically Adi. But then all were aware of his condition. So, they did their level best to support and co-ordinate with him. And Adi's father, the company's Financial Controller was by his side all the while.
All was going on smoothly. He started learning gradually and opening more to his staffs. She was there too. Despite being a novice herself in the field, she would continuously lend her support to him. And then that incident happened.
"Maan, are you out of your mind? That's not how budgeting approaches are decided upon," she just stated loudly without realising the impact of her words.
She could have been right but for the attendees of that meeting she was a mere Trainee and MSK was the CFO.
Whispers could be heard all across about how the so called CFO had no idea of his work. Some were even contemplating whether they should continue outsourcing their Accounting works to a firm being handled by a CFO with no sound knowledge.
Adi, another trainee, who was sitting beside her just had his mouth left opened but he didn't miss the anger in his boss' eyes. He elbowed her below the table to keep quiet and rectify herself but she was nowhere near listening.
"Oye, are you here?" she added receiving no reply from him. "Maan???"
But the damage was already done.
"S-I-R" he gritted under his teeth.
"What?" she asked not understanding.
"Its Maan SIR or MSK for you," he retorted emphasing on the *SIR* word before adding "Now just get out of here," not realising what he said in a fit of anger. He was not angry on her. Rather he was angry on himself for being so ignorant and then he had the burden of maintaining the reputation of KCABA. No way could he afford to lose a single client. Not that he was in need of money but he had a reputation to uphold, the one his late grandfather and father worked hard to achieve.
With tear-filled eyes, she just moved away, to never return. Itni arrogance!!! Maan also made no effort to get her back. After all, she was equally faulty. Didn't she know how to behave before clients? Yes, he was friendly with his staff, and even more to her, but that didn't give her the liberty to behave like this before his clients.
However, as days went, Maan realised something. Indeed she was right. But the damage was already done. She was already gone. And yes, he did lack majorly. He would be blank very often in meetings due to his lack of knowledge. Of course, he had a supportive staff, but that was not enough. Finally, he decided to join Accounting and Management Classess on a part-time basis while simultaneously handling work. But hey, he was not going to be alone. She was not there, so the only option was to tag along Adi. The Maan in him knew he was being unfair to Adi by making him attend the same classes again but then everything was fair for MSK, wasn't it?
"Y-y-y-Yes S-sssir, I mean Maan Sir, I mean M-m-m-Maan," and his chain of thoughts was broken by Adi's stammering.
"Good!!! Now stop stammering and just sit down," he ordered. Working in KCABA for few months did bring out his bossy side. He shook his head as he realised how he has changed ever since his Dad's death. He was never one to get angry or snap at others for every little thing. But the last few months' pressure and hard work did bring out this different side of his. Something which Dadi and his siblings would often point out, and not to forget Adi, who once used to be his childhood friend whenever he would accompany his dad to office as a child.
"He-he-he-he," Adi let out his signature laugh as he gained his seat knowing very well what Maan was thinking about. But he soon stopped, receiving the usual glare from Maan.
****************************
"Hey bro. Wassup? Why is *Uncle* so angry?" Yash, the mischief maker in class asked as he greeted Adi. But instead of replying, Adi looked at Maan for his reaction. In fact, MSK was the eldest in class. Initially, everyone used to be intimidated by him. Though he never disclosed his real identity, almost all guessed his status by his looks. He, for sure, is a big shot, they would tell among themselves. After all, not every student comes to class in a chauffeur-driven Audi R8 car. However, after few classes, they started breaking the ice and gelling with him.
And after knowing the reason behind his following those classes, they started respecting him more. Some even addressed him as Sir but he was quick enough to forbid them from doing so. After all, they were class mates there. Still, they made sure to stay in their limits while talking to him especially after Adi told them about his anger.
As if it mattered to Yash. He knew he was in the good books of Maan. So, he made sure to take advantage of that fact all the time.
But today, receiving a glare from Maan, he knew he was in trouble. So to ease the tension, he casually announced:
"Ok Leave Mr I'm-Always-So-Angry, oooppps, I mean the Great MSK," he said rolling his eyes at him to which Maan just shook his head trying his best to hide the smile which was forming. "I have 2 good news and a bad news," he added only to receive mixed reactions.
"He-he-he" Adi started, adjusting his specs.
"Whatever Adi!!! So the first good news is that Mr Chopra, our Business Accounting and Finance Lecturer, had to take emergency vacation leaves for a period not yet known due to some personal stuffs of his," he said in one go and without any doubt he was followed with claps. After all Mr Chopra was one eccentric lecturer. And then faking a sad pout he added, "And we have already got his replacement."
Noticing how all were down, he quickly continued with a grin, "But the 2nd good news is that feedback says she is one young, pretty and if I might say, hot, lady," and this time all started hooting.
And as if he wasn't yet done, he added, all the while looking at Maan, " Who knows, Uncle might finally get an Aunty," and then he hi-5ed Dev as all started laughing.
"Stop it Yash," Maan finally spoke up not wanting to hear his nonsense.
"Ok fine, am sorry Maan. But c'mon don't you think it's high time you get hooked with someone. Heck even Adi has got a girlfriend..."
And then he was interrupted by Arjun who rushed into the class, panting heavily, "Hey, she's coming, she's coming."
"Who is coming?" someone asked.
"Our New lecturer, Miss Geet Handa!!!"
"W-H-A-T???" Both Adi and Maan shouted in unison while looking at each other in shock, only to receive confused yet questioning looks from the remaining students.
