CHAPTER 7
ALL THE NAMES & PLACES ARE FICTITIOUS (if any resemblance to persons & places is purely coincidental). Any royal titles, MEDICAL PROCEDURES, MEDICAL TERMS, MILITARY PROCEDURES, MILITARY TERMS, Punjabi terms, architectural terms, IT terms & programs, office hierachy, wedding rituals, etc. are from my imagination hence THEY ARE NOT TRUE. Finally evening came for which everyone was waiting, SANGEET. Everyone dressed in their wedding finery. Meera after so long was looking like a bride and Yash like he was dressed for special occassion. Even Maan wore something traditional!
Vicky was his usual flambouyant self. Geet was busy in kitchen as Naina could not enter it. Pinky was helping her till Geet shooed her out saying Meera may need her help! Geet, Lacchi and Channi were busy with serving as halwai had already made snacks and now were busy in preparing dinner. Soon boy's side or ladkewalle arrived i.e. Lata Mausi, Dadimaa, Pammi, Maan, Yash and Vicky. They were recieved by Daarji, Mohinder, Naina, Teji and Lucky. Everyone were served snacks except Lata Mausi, Chachiji and Maan. Lata Mausi and Chachiji were served homemade aloo tikki with chatni and tea. Maan was served tomato cheese sandwich with black coffee. Lata Mausi could not hold herself and asked Dadimaa, "Savi, Maan kiss cheez ka parhez karta hai?" (What restrictions does Maan have in food?)
"Parhez nahi didi, usse humare khaana bahut teliya aur mirchwala lagta hai iss liye..."(No restrictions! He only finds our food very oily and spicy! So...)
"He eats Continental food!" Dadimaa nodded in affirmative.
Meera walked in with Pinky and Rajji on her side stopping further conversation between sisters.
Once Meera sat next to Yash, Lata Mausi saw lot of teasing and flirting being done by Vicky and his friends! Maan was sitting in one corner with his phone and laptop working! Lata Mausi could not see Geet anywhere so asked her Chachaji who was sitting next to Mausi, "Behanji, Geet nahi dekh rahi hai, kahaan hai?"(I can't seem to see Geet where is she?)
"Woh tyaar hone gayi hai! Woh kya hai naa behanji woh humara nashta aur khaana banna rahi thee naa iss liye usse der ho gayi. Aati hi hogi!" (She has gone to get ready. She was so far busy cooking our snacks and dinner so got late. She will come soon.)
Just then a vision of loveliness in orange lahenga walked in with her head covered by a fusia dupatta.(imagine Geet wearing the jewellery in red-white lehanga with orange-fusia lehanga. Hair made into a braid) A pair of restless eyes immediately detected Geet presence as she walked in the room before anyone else could. She went and touched Lata Mausi, Dadimaa and Pammi's feet. Then Pinky and Rajji pulled her and asked her to start playing dholak. With the rhythmn of dholak everyone gathered near and Lata Mausi started singing much to Dadimaa's delight,
Sunno, Sunno, dulhan aur dulhe ki kahaani,
Dhinak, Dhin Dhaa...

In between the song teasing Yash and Meera. Meera was blushing red ! Pinky, Rajji, Vicky and few other girls & boy started dancing officially inaugrating the sangeet.
Now Dadimaa also got into form and started singing ,
Baajaa Baajaa ho gayi hai...

Surprising Yash, Vicky, Teji and Lucky seeing their respective mothers dancing. Geet had quitely slipped away handing over dholak to Chachiji as she had lot of work in kitchen. Which was again noticed by same pair of restless eyes!
Now slowly mood was picking up and next song was,

Teji, Pinky, Vicky, Rajji, Lucky and all people started dancing young and old.
Next Teji and Lucky were pulled in as Bride's brothers and they danced on,

The Handa and Khurana families were expressing their joy at the new bond to be formed between their respective family members and also their family. Nearly 4 hours had passed, finally Daarji intervened and said its time to wrap up so that dinner can be served and halwai to be allowed to leave. It was time to close, hence the bride and groom were called to end the program. Yash and Meera danced on,
Chal pyaar karegi, haanji, haanji

As it was last song, everyone danced except two individuals. One as she was busy in the kitchen and the other he won't dance if she is not dancing! The bride and groom finished dancing, Geet came with Lata Mausi and Chachiji's food. Suddenly Meera remembered, "Geet tu ne to dance hi nahi kiya!" (Geet you didn't dance!)
"Koi baat nahi didi. Waise bhi mujhe koi dance wance nahi aatta!" (Nevermind! I anyway don't know how to dance?)
"Yeh kya keh rahi hai. Meri shaadi mei tu nahi naachegi?" (What are you saying? In my wedding you won't dance?)
"Didi, please mujhe kitchen mei abhi bahut kaam hai!" (I have lot of work in kitchen.)
"Theek hai! Agar tu dance nahi karegi toh mai khaana nahi khaaongi!" (Fine! You don't dance, Iwon't have dinner!)
"Yeh kaisi zidd hai didi?" (Why are you throwing a tantrum Didi? )
"Gudiya, Meera ka itna mann hai toh naach le!" (Gudiya, dance for Meera's sake!) Geet nodded 'yes'.
Rajji went near CD player and inserted a disc while Geet did "pranam" (salutation to God, earth and audience) which is done by trained dancers in beginning and ending of a dance recital, making Lata Mausi and Dadimaa startled. Geet then started,
Maayi ni Maayi munder pe teri bol raha kaga
(Hum aapke hain koun?)
Geet's each move and pose was poetry in motion. Her waist moved to the rhythmn of sound. Her waist felt like rubber as if it had no bone in it. The waist band was looking even more beautiful with beautiful movements. The paayals on her feet giving musical rhythmn to the song. Her net fusia dupatta adding alluring mystery. When she finished there was pin-drop silence. Audience did not know what hit them, they were smitten like Vishwamitr was seeing Maneka dancing! Finally Lata Mausi came out of her trance and started clapping followed by others.
Maan could not believe that the beauty he is getting attracted to is as sensous and graceful as sculptures on the walls of ancient temples! Her petite form in lehanga, tiny waist whose skin was visible in transculent folds of dupatta was playing hide and seek with him. Maan so wanted to grab her and take her to a private place where he could remove the 'kardhani' (waist chain) and kiss her waist till milky white skin turned to red with his love. Did he just say"his love"? What is matter with him? He can't love Geet, he is in love with his "beautiful hazel eyes"? Maan thought of going out to get some fresh air and get his wayward thoughts and emotions in order! By the time Maan returned from stroll in the garden, dinner had been served. Geet didn't make anything special for Maan as Dadimaa had said he can have "Palak Paneer" and roti tonight. Everyone had dinner and Maan missed Geet's made dinner although he refused to admit it. He silently ate what was served as he felt by ignoring her and anything done by her he could ignore his growing feelings for her as well! But alas it was too late which Maan still didn't realise!
After dinner was done, men were shooed out of the venue, Teji being the watch gaurd to see that all men leave! Ladies went and changed their clothes, Geet came out looking cute and innocent in mehendi green stitched lungi.
Meera sat in centre and mehendiwalli (mehendi artiste) started decorating her hands with mehendi (henna). She was special mehendiwalli only for Meera as she was the bride! Geet, Pinky, Rajji and few of Geet & Meera's cousins started dancing to the song of Mehboob ki Mehendi,

Unknown to them Maan and Yash were seeing all this from a hidden balcony above the venue. Slowly time passed and all girls and ladies hands were decorated. The mehediwalli for Meera had finished and was free as she still had time so she stopped Dadimaa who was passing by and asked, "Madamji, thodhi yeh bandh mehendi bacchi hai. Kissi aur ke lagaa doon?" (Madam a little henna is remaining. Do you have anyone else whom I can apply to?)
"Haan! Abhi laai!" Dadimaa said and quickly got Geet. Dadimaa made Geet sit there and whispered something in mehendiwalli's ears and left. (Yes! I'll just bring her!)
Meera and Geet were sitting and chatting reliving their childhood days. Both were feeling emotional at thought of leaving one another. They were so deep in their talking and nostalgia that they didn't realise when Geet's mehendi was over and whose name was written in her mehendi. Once mehendiwalli finished, she went to Dadimaa. Savitri Devi gave her a some money and a small piece of jewellery and mehendiwalli left! After all ladies mehendi done Daarji came and called it a day and everyone went to their respective homes.
