Sounds like doctor is irresponsible person she could have ask previous report before commenting anything as such comments can put patients life on threat, secondly if I were in their place could have take 3 opinion before going to do any thing, in our family similar case happen but for other medical ailment, where doctor were wanted to chop of leg of patient with more chances of heart failure, but we had taken so many other opinion and ignore doctors threat as if risk of operation is also 90% than why not give try to other conventional medicine and the person has saved though become disable permanently came on wheel chair but his family were needed him, his children were small and he was pioneer of family and still he is alive, so some times we need to take risk in life and cant trust doctors blindly as they might be wrong.
