Epilogue - Light of life

'Mama kya mein' Muskaan questioned seeing her mother tilt her head down to the ground

'Papa' she choked before running out of the study, seeing fat tears submerge in his daughter's eyes broke his heart and hearing the silent sobs emitting from his wife further tarnished his beating pulse.

'Geet it was about time' he said more to himself than her

'Maine kaha tana tumse keep it a secret. What was the need?' she accused pushing his hands off her shoulder's, the deepest secret of her life could have easily breathed its last breath with her but no, Maan being the man he was, had to disrupt their perfect life with an old truth.

'It would have hurt more if she found out from someone else' Maan tried reasoning, it's not that Geet didn't agree. They spent last month arguing and debating about the possibilities, Geet being the mother was adamant not to hurt her first child, if not physically then emotionally. While Maan wanted this burden off his chest, this secret will only cause heartache to his child and like any father he wanted to protect her, even if he had to do it the hard way.

'I'll see how she is?' Geet got up when bad thoughts invaded her system

'Geet just let her be alone for a while' Maan reassured, truth be told even he was scared

'agar woh hamse nafrat khare toh, i don't think I can handle that' she cried silently while he engulfed her in his arms. Even he feared of what holds tomorrow, but sooner or later Muskaan was bound to find out that she was adopted. In the last 12 years they tried everything possible to cover this truth, but facts like this never stay hidden for long. With Muskaan turning 15 soon, Maan thought this was the perfect time. Why now, was the question raised by Geet, why should she ever tell Muskaan? As far as Maan and Geet were concerned, Muskaan was their first born. But Maan fought hard after all Muskaan had every right to know about the biological parents

The last 12 years were full of hope and laughter, everyday a new joy burst its radiate colours filling Geet's and Maan's life with light. Gia and Sahil, were born 3 years after their marriage, adding a new adventure and more members to their family. Pari and Yash married soon after Maan and Geet's wedding and had 2 daughters. Pinky and Adi had a boy and 2 girls, while Rajji finally married Vicky and settled in America. Sasha was a proud mother of a girl, but it was Naintara who was smothered with boys, 4 to be precise. After the fourth, she gave up the want for a girl, and instead stuck to Gia and Muskaan to fulfill her girly admirations. But it wasn't all happy and galore, soon after the twins birth Mohinder's cancer reoccurred which ultimately took his life; leaving his daughters withering in pain. Maan stood tall and anchored Geet and Rajji like he promised. So when Dadi died a few years later, it was vice versa. Geet shouldered his pain and responsibilities, trying to help her beloved come out of the loss of his mother-figure. With each day their relationship grew strong, trust multiplied and faith deepened. Maan and Geet where true soulmates, and this new test was just another trial testing the foundation of their love once again.

The harsh winds knocking on the bedroom window broke Geet's thoughts only then realising the dark sky. Quickly after checking herself in the mirror, she ran towards the dining hall but stopped hearing the twins laugh. It was then she noticed her husband, Maan crouching down on the bed reading Gia and Krish a bedtime story. Even in the hardest of times Maan was always beside her, if front physically then spiritually like now Maan took care of the twins while she spent her day reining the past. Smiling a little when Maan looked up towards her, she then left towards her daughter who was in pain. Geet slowly walked in to see Muskaan hunched to the floor resting her back to the bed and staring at the wall much like how she was few moments ago, both their lives sucked back into oblivion in just one day, back into the darkness she once escaped from.

'Mama it feels so surreal, papa came later as far as I remember but you were always there' Muskaan called sounding so dry and distant

'Honey I will always be there, this doesn't change a thing' Geet caged her short arms around her growing daughter who in a few more months would be taller than her

'But it does, doesn't it?' Muskaan cried rubbing her hands over a picture of their family, where a smiling Geet; Maan; Muskaan; Gia and Krish stood looking back at her. She was no longer that same girl, now knowing the truth of her life; she no longer felt like the same Muskaan.

'Can I know about them?' she questioned when Geet cried louder, it hurt her to hurt her mother who so selflessly loved her all those years but it hurt her more now knowing that she had no connection with this beautiful woman. It was then Geet ran to her room to collect each and everything she had kept of Vikram's, from the letter to a picture of their wedding, but the sad thing being Geet knew nothing about the woman who actually gave birth to Muskaan.

'I'm sorry Musky I don't know anything about ... your biological mother' Geet paused before completing the sentence, to refer to another woman as your childs mother wasn't easy on her delicate self, yet something changed which she needed to acknowledge for Muskaan's sake

'This is Vikam' Geet showed before explaining the dynamics of their relationship, keeping it very basic. Muskaan may be older now to understand her pain but she was still a child, and honestly speaking Geet didn't want Muskaan to hate her father. He may be the man responsible for Geet's initial miseries, but his the same man who gave so much to her, he gave her Muskaan. The mother-daughter duo spent the next few hours discussing and discovering a new chapter in their life, where Muskaan learnt to respect her mother even more knowing that Geet was in reality her step-mother. But with day comes light, and with light comes clarity and brightness, like Geet's and Muskaan's relation. Both still loved each other, Geet still loved her more than a mother while Muskaan learnt to respect and appreciate Geet more.

'Mama get up' she heard the shouting closing in, almost like as if her children were calling her from nearby

'Mama mujhse book lagi hai' she felt a nudge this time breaking her deep slumber, after years she dreamed the same dream. A place filled with darkness and cries prisoning her to complete solitude, where she stood alone in the pits of pure blackness.

'Mama app teek ho, papa I think Mama's not well' she heard the familiar voice of Muskaan sounding worried and scared helping her get rid of the last remnants of sleep

'Geet you scared us' Maan spoke the minute Geet smiled at her three children that surrounded her

'Main teek hoon ab' she replied looking at each and one of them

'Are you sure?' Maan replied pulling Geet into a hug, it was then Krish who pulled his sister's into a group hug. Krish hanged far too often with Pari and Pinky hence he was like them in terms of personality, a mix of both; overprotective for his family yet quite in love with hugs and appreciation. While Gia took Maan's personality, a carbon copy of her father. Funny story really since Geet fought tooth and nail to name her that and wished they were similar due to the G factor. But it was Muskaan that's soley like her mother, still aspiring to be like her mother and handle her father's business one day.

'Ok great then I'm starving and chachi isn't even here' Krish complained walking out the room, Dev and his family where on a family holiday leaving the Khuranna mansion awfully quite

'What's new in that your always hungry' Gia bullied as usual since she was the older one while Maan followed throwing another glance towards his wife to know whether she was ok or not but seeing her smile he looked revealed.

'Mama I was thinking we can go to the theme park today' Muskaan demanded holding onto her mother hand

'woh I don't want anything to change, I want everything to be the same' she elaborated to a confused Geet who reduced to tears the next second

'We're out of that darkness mama'

'Hai baby we're out and this is our happily ever after, our happy ending' Geet said pulling her daughter into another hug

'GEEET come fast the twins have...' Maan's voiced boomed in the mansion making both of them laugh knowing the twins were up to trouble once again.

'GEEET'

'Araha hoon main' she screamed running down the corridor with Muskaan running after her

Life is truly a beautiful journey, not only the good but the bad phases also help mould you into a better person, into a more experienced person. Learning to live in the dark nurtures your personality, while in the light you cherish your accomplishments. With every test comes success and with every sorrow comes a lesson. There's no such thing as a dark or dull life, life is what you make of it. So make the most of your life and help others like the way you'll want to be helped.

Note: Finally i know, i'm sorry but my love for writings completely gone as you can tell from then above chapter. Although new ideas and plots keep building a castle in my mind, hoping to get a bulldozer to help knock it down lol. Muskaan was the only one in the dark, so needed to put a rightful ending to her story. It started with Geet and Muskaan so i thought to end it with them. I hope you liked this chapter and once again thank you for reading.

A Fabulous Ending
Maan and Geet have twins too and Muskaan now been a young teenager
Maan felt it was time that she knows the truth about her biological parents
they love her as she is the first daughter to both Maan and Geet but he felt it was the
right time that she knows her truth
yes its always a sad truth and at the same time one feels suddenly at lost or disconnected
but again that very truth cannot change the fact that Muskaan's parents and her siblings love her
I do think her respect and love for Geet increased in manifolds as Geet took her in and loved her when she a baby she has been the reason that Geet survived her bitter past
