Thanks for posting this. reading the rules for the first time :))

just came to know about the work being copied to other site..

I am not a writer, but can understand what the writer would feel when her/his hard work and creativity is copied by someone else.

am just listing a few options for the solution which I have read or observed..

Unfortunately, None of the option is 100% guaranteed, but using one or more or all-together will restrict their work getting copied to some extent.

1) Add copyright information to the updates. not sure of the legal requirement (if any) to have a copyright though.

2) Use the Membersonly forum code for the story updates.

This way at least the general public (users who are not logged on IF or not members of IF) will not be able to read/copy the content.

3) Use the NOCOPY forum code (if put in first post). but this works only for the first page of the thread.

4) This next option is a bit tedious one -

the writer can create/take image of her/his work or the chapter of the story and post the update as an image.

They can put a light-shaded copyright watermark with their name all over the background of the image.

Now, the image itself can be downloaded, but it is difficult to copy the content. Also, there are some image hosting sites which can restrict download of an image.

5) and most importantly (this is not directly related to plagiarism) also to keep a main/backup copy of the work in a word document or notepad text file on their own PC or external hard-drive.

I have checked the onenote option in above link, and it works for converting each page of the word document into an image.

B) Without a word document -- if the work is in wordpad or notepad as text files.

1) How to add text to a picture using MS-paint

2) Resize the image (pixel size ) so that it contains all the text

3) Add a light-shaded / transparent image for copyright with name as the background

4) Copy-paste the chapter or text into the image (using add text feature)

5) OR instead of adding text -- to take screen scrap (print screen) of the page of the document and paste as image.

6) Save the image.

thanks for ur ideas..i ll try to learn it..

one thing is impossible

the one who copied is one of our members..

so even if we put members post its not safe..

i am asking the admins to make IF as water mark in the threads opened by writers..when they post their updates it will be with IF bg

n others cmnts will be normal like plain posts..

so when copying too it will come with IF image only..

we have to think more to improvise If

so others cant copy it
