PART 6. PLAN No. 5. SORRY BOLNE WAALA PLAN!
"Tumhaare Papa bhi na? Kya kahun?", Geet mused as she stared at Mannat, "Bade ajeeb hain!"
Mannat giggled making Geet smile, "Haina! Tumhein bhi yahi lagta hai na!"
Mannat babbled something making Geet laugh, "Exactly! Main bhi wahi soch rahi hoon! Tumhaare papa poore duniya mein ek akele aise piece hain! Babaji ne unke jaisa koi doosra piece banaaya hi nahi!"
Outside the room, Maan narrowed his eyes at Geet's words. Inha bhi bura nahi hoon Geet! Hota toh tum mujhse itna pyar nahi karti!
Inside the room, Geet continued to speak, "Ab tum hi bataao", Geet spoke as she lifted her child in her arms and walked to and fro hoping that her walking would lull the child into sleep. But it seemed that 6 month old Mannat was too much interested in listening to her parents' love story rather than going to sleep as she giggled, "ki kab aap kisi ka dil apni baaton se dukhaate ho, use hurt karte ho toh kya karna chaahiye?" Mannat frowned and Geet nodded, "Haan! Haan! Exactly! Aapko uss insaan ke saamne sar jhukaake maafi maangni chaahiye! Dekha! Tumhein bhi yeh baat pata hai! Lekin tumhaare papa... Uff!" Geet shook her head making Mannat giggle.
Outside the room, Maan glared at the mother daughter duo. Pehle toh Maa buraai kar rahi thi, ab beti bhi shuru hogayi! This is not fair!
"Agar tumhaare papa uss din mere saamne sir jhukaake maafi maangte toh main jhat se unhein maaf kar deti!", Geet announced as she sat on the rocking chair hoping that the rocking would put Mannat to sleep, "Par tumhaare papa toh thehre tedhe insaan! Seedhi mooh maafi maangli toh usmein mazaa kahaa? Tumhaare papa ne aise aise tedhe medhe paintre aazamaaye mujhse maafi maangne ke ki kya bataaun..."
Four Years Earlier...
It was the evening of her fake birthday and Geet's eyes were swollen and red due to crying the whole noon. She had hidden her feelings the whole morning but once lunch was over, she had taken refuge in her room after faking tiredness to her family. So now after crying for almost the whole noon, she had come out of the room with sadness etched on her face and pain written in her eyes.
Just as Geet stepped outside, she came face to face with Maan. Maan gave her an alarmed glance but Geet ignored it. She fumed in anger as she walked by. Suddenly, Maan grabbed her arm, "Geet! Meri baat suno!"
Geet pulled her hand away from Maan's grasp and glared at him, "Mujhe kuch nahi sunna!"
"Dekho Geet! Meri baat sun lo!", Maan ordered her.
Geet frowned. Arre! Request kar rahe hain ya demand! Meri baat sun lo! Arre! Please toh boliye!
She looked away in annoyance. Maan's expression changed to annoyance too, "Dekho Geet! Meri baat sun lo warna pachtaaogi!".
Geet's jaw dropped open in shock. Galti inki aur baat nahi suni toh main pachtaaungi?
"Kya kahaa aapne? Main pachtaaungi?", Geet placed her hands on her hips and glared at him.
"Haan!", Maan nodded as he folded his arms against his chest as he gave her the look of indifference.
Geet huffed in anger. Is Khadus ki toh! Samajhte kya hain apne aapko! Chalo! Dekhte hain kya kehna hai inhein!
"Toh kahiye!", she gritted her teeth while smiling as sweetly as possible, "Kya kehna chaahte hain aap!"
Maan smirked, "Geet! Main yeh kehna chaahta tha ki aaj tumne jo suna woh ... woh... Uska matlab woh nahi tha jo tumne suna!", Maan tried to explain.
Geet feigned innocence, "Matlab? Maine jo suna woh woh nahi tha, kuch aur tha. Lekin aisa kyun? Aap jo kehte hain uska matlab toh wahi hoga na jo aapne kahaa? Ya kahin aap kehte kuch aur hain aur uska meaning kuch aur hota hai? Yaani ki aaj tak aapne jo bhi kahaa uska matlab kuch aur hai?"
Maan stopped her from saying more, "Geet! Aisi baat nahi hai! Aaj tak maine jo bhi kahaa uska matlab wahi hai jo maine kahaa."
Geet pouted, "Hey Babaji! Yaani ki aaj subah aapne jo Daadima se kahaa woh ..."
Maan cut in, "Uska matlab alag tha!"
Geet, now, did not have to feign confusion. She was totally confused now, "Par aap aisa kuch kyun kahenge jisko aap mean nahi karte?"
Maan took a deep breath, "Dekho Geet! Tum na ek galat time pe galat jagah aa gayi thi!"
Now Geet's eyebrows went up as she stared at the man in front of her. Wow! So now it was her fault that Maan had said those words! Hey Babaji!
Maan continued, "Tumhein wahaan aana hi nahi chaahiye tha Geet!"
Geet had to cut in now, "Toh iska matlab hai ki galti meri thi ki main wahaan aayi!"
Maan nodded, "Haan!" Then seeing Geet's incredulous look he backpedaled, "Mera matlab hai nahi...Matlab... Haan par nahi..."
Geet had enough of Maan's antics now. Maafi maangne ko chod yeh mujhe hi doshi thehra rahe hain! Hey Babaji! Ab toh main inhein kabhi maaf nahi karungi!
"So let me get this right!", Geet said now beyond furious, "Aap, jo har baat bekhauf hoke bindaas se kehte ho, aaj subah kuch aisa bol gaye jiska matlab kuch aur hi tha. Aap, jinhonein hamesha wahi kahaa jo aapko theek laga, aaj kuch aisa bol gaye which you did not mean. Interesting! Aur maine woh sab suna kyunki meri galti hai! Agar main wahaan nahi hoti main yeh sab sunti hi nahi, right?"
Maan nodded slowly but the expression on his face was of dread.
Geet had enough of this madness, "Mr. Maan Singh Khurana! Aapko jo kehna tha woh aapne keh diya, ab meri suniye! As yeh sab meri galti thi, main apne aapko punishment de deti hoon. Main aaj se aapse baat nahi karungi aur naahi jhagdungi! Yeh meri punishment hai, theek hai?", Geet shouted.
Maan nodded as if agreeing with her making her angrier. She huffed, turned around and stormed away all the while a confused looking Maan stood behind giving Geet the impression that he seriously did not know what he had agreed for.
A day passed and then two but Geet did not talk to Maan. For the first day, Maan had tried to talk to Geet at every chance he got but Geet was too determined to back away. Maan even tried to provoke her into fighting but she was as stubborn as him it seemed. And after that day, Maan seemed to have lost interest in trying to get Geet to talk. Or maybe his ego was restraining him. Who knows! She shrugged. She did not care! A week passed before Maan tried his attempt to make Geet forgive him. Of course, this was Maan. He would not do anything in simple and straight forward manner.
It was a week after her declaration of not talking to Maan, and Geet was annoyed; annoyed because she missed him, missed talking to him, missed fighting with him. But Geet was nothing if not stubborn. She was not going to forgive him. If he had not told her that it was her fault, she would have forgiven him by now. But after what he had done, she was not interested in forgiving him. No way Mr. Khadus! Main aapko kabhi maaf nahi karungi!
Suddenly, Geet was brought out of her thoughts when Maan came and placed a CD in her music player. Geet blinked in confusion. Ek din mere aage peeche ghoomte hue mujhse baat karne ki koshish kar rahe the aur phir poore hafte mujhe ignore kiya! Ab aaj lagta hai kuch naya paintra apnaaya hai mera dil ko pighlaane ka! Kar lo jo karna hai Mr. Khadus! Main itni aasaani se nahi pighalne waali!
A song started playing from the stereo in male voice.
Maaf Abhi Kar Do Yaar
Maaf Karo Sarkaar
Tumko Aata Hai Ghussa
Humko Aata Hai Pyaar
Maaf Abhi Kar Do Yaar
Maaf Karo Sarkaar
Hey Baba Maaf Abhi Kar Do Yaar
Maaf Karo Sarkaar
Geet blinked in surprise. This was Maan's way to ask for forgiveness. Hey Babaji! She could only look at Maan with horror as song continued to play.
Tumko Aata Hai Ghussa
Humko Aata Hai Pyaar
Maaf Abhi Kar Do Yaar
Maaf Karo Sarkaar
Suddenly, the tune changed as a female started singing.
Khaab Dekhe Phoolon Ke
Bol Hai Kaaton Jaise
Maan nearly ran just to switch off the stereo as Geet grinned brightly. Smiling at him brightly, Geet spoke up, "Waah! Kya badhiya gaana hai! Khaab Dekhe Phoolon Ke Bol Hai Kaaton Jaise! Kisi ki yaad aa rahi hai? Kaun hai jiske bol kaaton jaise hai? Hmm..." Shrugging her shoulders, Geet walked away while Maan's jaw dropped open. Geet giggled. Poor Maan! Had come to ask for forgiveness, got a taunt instead! She shrugged. Jo karna hai karlo Mr. Maan Singh Khurana! I am not going to melt!
Geet's one taunt, it seemed, had put off Maan from trying another attempt at melting Geet's heart. Geet did not mind having the peace and quiet around her. Oh! Who was she kidding? She missed fighting with Maan but that Khadus's words refused to let her forgive him. And now it seems he had given up again on her. Jaane do, she shrugged in annoyance but in her heart she missed him.
Another three days passed before Maan made his next attempt at winning Geet's forgiveness. Geet and NT were sitting on the dining table discussing something when she noticed something placed right beside her. And when she looked at it properly, she was surprised. Arre! Yeh guldasta kisne yahaan rakha? She looked around curiously and then her eyes fell on Maan hiding behind a pillar nearby waving at her. Her eyes widened; achcha ji! Yeh aapka plan hai! Saamne se sorry nahi bol paaye toh yeh tedha raasta apna liya! Par main nahi maanungi! Maafi kaise bhi maangna hai, maanglo par maafi nahi milegi!
Geet looked around curiously and then her eyes noticed Dev standing nearby talking on phone. Her eyes twinkled and picking up the bouquet, she showed it to NT, "Dekho! Didi! Yahaan pe mujhe kya mila?" NT's eyes lit up at the sight of bouquet but then she frowned. Fingering the bouquet, NT wondered, "Par ise bheja kisne?" Geet huffed, "Offo Didi! Aap hi socho, kisne diya hoga?" She winked at NT and looked at Dev pointedly.
NT grinned, jumped up from her seat and then running to her husband, she placed a kiss on his cheek, all the while whispering something in his ear which made Dev's cheeks turn red. Geet giggled at that and then she grinned more when she heard someone groan behind her. Hogayi na plan ki khatiyakhadi! She giggled again just as Dev walked over to her with frown on his face, "Yeh NT kis guldaste ki baat kar rahi thi? I did not gift any bouquet to her!" Dev scratched his head in confusion and she grinned, "Jiju! Iske liye thank karein apne Bhai ko! Maan ne yeh sabka intezaam kiya hai! Dekha! Apne Bhai aur unki wife ki kitni fikar karte hain Maan!" Smiling at Dev, Geet scampered off just as Dev went and hugged Maan and thanked him profusely making Geet giggle. Ab ise kehte hain nehle pe dehla!
Two weeks had passed to Geet's fake birthday and Geet had yet to melt. Maan was agitated, Geet had noticed that but the hurt she had felt at his words both in the morning and the evening of her fake birthday had yet to diminish and hence, Geet refused to let Maan off the hook. But it seemed that Maan had yet to give up as the very next day, Geet found her favorite icecream on her bed which of course she promptly shared with everybody and pointedly announced in front of everyone that she will not eat them as her throat was paining due to cold. Everyone had accepted her explanation except Maan who had glared at her. She had made a face at him and stormed off.
Another attempt Maan made was by sending her a sorry card but before it could reach Geet's hand, it flew down from the table where Maan had kept in Geet's room to the mud outside her window. By the time, Geet had seen it, it was fully ruined. And then came Maan's final attempt. But by then Geet's anger and bitterness had reached such heights that even his seedhi saadhi simple apology did not seem enough in front of Geet as she believed that the face-to-face apology came a little too late.
"Bas Geet! Bas karo! Keh toh raha hoon, that I am sorry!", Maan had grabbed Geet's hand trying to plead to her to forgive him. They were standing in her room where Maan had sought Geet out.
Geet wrenched her hand away and glared at Maan, "Aur main yahi keh rahi hoon, ki aapki sorry aapko mubaarak ho! Itna dil dukhaaya aur seedhi tarah sorry tak nahi bole! Aur ab aaye ho, almost teen hafte baad sorry bolne? Forget it Maan! Forget it!" She turned around to walk away when Maan, in his anger, grabbed her arm and pulled her close. She glared at him with anger as she tried to get her hand away. She pulled her hand, turned around only for him to grasp her hand again and this time when he pulled her, he twisted her arm behind her making her come very close to him. Her breath caught at being pulled so close to him. For a second, she forgot her situation and stared into his intense eyes. Her heart thudded in her chest and goose bumps broke out all over her skin. His hand, which till now held her hand tightly behind the back, slowly loosened but she did not move away from him wanting to stay there for eternity.
"Maaf kyun nahi kar deti tum mujhe?", Maan's whispered question brought Geet out of her trance but she remained standing close to him unable to reply.
"Bolo Geet!", Maan whispered as his other hand traced her cheek lightly.
Geet took a sharp breath at his action and her eyes fluttered close at the way his fingers inched towards her lips.
"Bolo na Geet! Maaf kyun nahi karti? Main toh maafi maang raha hoon na? Toh kardo na mujhe maaf! Woh kuch shabd toh mere mooh se galti se nikal gaya tha! Main tumhaare baare mein aisa kuch nahi sochta! Main toh tumhein...", Maan was cut off by Geet as she pushed him away and looked at him with anger.
With her eyes closed, Geet had listened to Maan's words halfheartedly as her mind was focusing on the fingers trailing on her cheek and nearing her lips, but the moment Maan talked about the words he had said to his Daadima, Geet was brought to the reality and she pushed him off harshly.
"Main tumhaare baare mein aisa kuch nahi sochta!", the words reverberated through Geet's mind as she stared at Maan. Those words seemed to be awfully similar to the words Maan had said to his Daadi, "Geet mere liye koi special nahi hai!" Anger and anguish warred for dominance inside her and she unleashed it on him, "Hogaya aapka bolke? Ab meri suniye! I don't care what you think about me! Aap mujhe special samajhte ho ya nahi isse mujhe koi farak nahi padhta! Maine aapko apna dost samjha tha lekin aap agar mujhe apna dost bhi nahi samajhte toh phir theek hai! Humaari dosti khatam! Fine! Our friendship is over! Lekin yeh mat samajhiye ki iss sab se mujhe koi farak padta hai! I don't care!", she turned around and was about to walk away when Maan grasped her arm and spun her around.
Geet's eyes widened as she took in the anger burning in Maan's eyes.
"Achcha? Agar tumhein farak nahi padta toh kyun tumhein itna dard hua jab maine tumhein special na maana toh?", Maan growled.
Geet looked away but Maan grabbed her chin with his other hand and made her look at him, "Bolo Geet! Why were you so hurt? Itna dard kyun? Aur itne din ki naaraazgi kyun? Main bataaun kyun? Kyunki tumhein farak padta hai! Tumhein farak padta hai ki main tumhaare baare mein kya sochta hoon! Tumhein meri har harqat se farak padta hai! Aur agar tumhein yeh lagta hai ki main galat hoon, toh apne dil se poocho. Poocho, ki kyun mere yeh sab kehne se tumhein itna dard hota hai? Poocho! Aur jab jawaab mil jaaye tab sochna ki mujhe maaf karna hai ya nahi!"
Maan left her and walked away leaving behind a shocked Geet. She looked down in confusion at Maan's words. What was he talking about? And more importantly, why did it hurt her so much when Maan confirmed that she had no special place in her life? She sat on her bed in confusion as she looked at a distance.
Four Years Later...
"... Aur is tarah teen hafte tumhaare papa mujhse aise aise tareeqe se maafi maange ki poocho mat!", Geet chattered on as her sleepy audience struggled to stay awake, "Par sab time inka plan fail! Phir aaya mera birthday! Asli waala! Aur phir jo hua... Hey Babaji!"
NOTE:
You must have noticed that when we went to flashback, it said four years earlier. That is because a year has passed from the day Geet joined the office. Inbetween the elevator trap plan and godh mein uthaao plan many months had passed. Also, this story will compass 2 and half years; from the day Geet attended the party in first chapter till their marriage being arranged. And they get married six months after their marriage getting fixed. That is how in the epilogue of Dh Dh, they celebrate their 2 year anniversary! Thought you guys should know!

P.S. Have you seen the ZaYa Banner of Kya Pyar story? That banner was the inspiration for the last scene where Maan twists Geet's arm behind her and this makes them come close!
P.P.S. Reviews would be replied and/or liked, once the light stops playing games here!
