She tightened her fists as the memories of them together came rushing back. Tears welled up in her eyes and her vision started to blur. He lied on the hospital bed unconscious, being treated for a fractured leg. She stared at him while she physically turned numb standing there. The silence in the room screamed at her to move away from him as soon as possible. She took a deep breath and left the room carrying along with her, the blues which his presence provided.
She splashed water on her face and moved her palms over her face. She looked at her reflection in the mirror and revisited the images of his face that she registered in her mind a while ago. He looked calm and undisturbed despite of carrying a fractured leg. Not very surprising. He had always been that way, never worried about things and was neither bothered about them as such. It hadn't been very long since she got over him and his memories, she didn't realize that closing his chapter in her life didn't mean she would never revisit it. She had to even if she didn't want to, the world was a small place and there was no running away from it.
She leaned against the wall of the restroom closing her eyes. Her memories with him have always been extremely bright. Joy that was unmatched. Yet she regretted those moments and if given a chance she would undo all of them. She somehow didn't believe in preserving them forever and cherish them, for all they did were invoke extreme reactions within her which were not very desirable. She loved him, desired him, and trusted him wholeheartedly. She gave everything she had, to form and strengthen their relationship over time, only to realize how weak it turned out to be at the moment when she craved for its support.
The silence of the rest room broke when she heard the door squeaking. She trembled for a second before she gained her calm and passed a weak smile at her colleagues. She tied her messed up hair tightly before she left the restroom. The hospital she worked was nearest to the cricket stadium and the ongoing matches kept the hospital doctors busy since the last two days. Sometimes it was the fractured noses as a result of the batsman's sixes and sometimes was the fainting and suffocated audience unable to bear the jam packed crowd of the stadium. Not serious cases but enough in number to keep them all busy.
She was changing in her locker room when she heard his name, Maan Singh Khurana from her friend's mouth.
She heard people were known and judged by their choices and actions but that was hardly the case, at least that hadn't been the case in her life. She hated the baggage she had to carry because of the actions of her dad in the society, so much that she believed in hiding the truth about her family. Probably that was one of her biggest mistakes. Hiding the truth of her family from Maan and his family. But truth usually revealed itself and when it did, things hardly remained the same.
If Maan's family silently ripped her apart through their actions, Maan's silence didn't help her either. She was stranded all alone when fingers were raised. She struggled to explain herself about the fact that she hid something from somebody whom she loved, but all her attempts came to a halt when her upbringing and motives were questioned. Amidst all the criteria and moral standards of right and wrong, the relationship they shared weakened and couldn't hold the pressure of everything that followed. Maan's disregard towards her hope to make things better only weakened her belief in him When realization of the weakening bonds and tattering relationships slowly dawned on her, all she could see as an option was to totally break the loose bonds. Sometimes breaking ties was the only option she believed. Right or wrong didn't matter much. That was what she believed and that was what she did.
