Rules Of Resistance
-Prologue-
Eli always allowed the phone to ring once at nine o'clock, on the dot. It was already quarter past nine, and yet no ringing of the phone. The hand on the clock ticked every second to emphasise Rose's predicament. A thousand questions swirled around her head. Eli was supposed to meet Nickie an hour ago. Surely, he should have been back by now.
Rose began to pace up and down the room, ripping her nails between her teeth. Then the phone rang. Once. Eli hung up. Rose didn't care anymore. She had to know wny he was late and how things went with Nickie. She picked up the phone that had stopped trying to get her attention and began to dial.
"Hello" replied Eli, curiously.
"Why did it take you so long to ring?' asked Rose, clearly upset.
"You know you are not supposed to call here." said Eli. "You already have a black mark, and now this!"
Rose suddenly felt very small. Maybe Eli was right. She was taught that phone calls left a trace before she could walk.
"Hang up now!' ordered Eli, his voice stern but with a trace of sympathy.
Eli let the phone linger by his ear even after he heard the monotonous tone of the dead line. He understood by Rose was so upset. He had himself broken the protocol. He sighed and took the phone receiver from his head, the top of it was dripping with blood. Eli winced and felt his head with his free hand. He thought back to his meeting with Nickie, a few minutes back. It was irresponsible of him to get hurt like that. She was so much weaker than him, and the marks would show tomorrow and be hard to explain. The next day was going to be a tough day all round, he thought. Firstly the phone call which he should not have picked up. Secondly, the scratching marks on his face. How would Milton react? Eli thought about it until his head ached. The best he could do now was to get some rest.
"Rules of the resistance," Maan sighed, gripping the remote-control bolted in his hand and switching off the television.
"Pretty much to go," he said more of a groan crashing the soft figure in front of him in a hug."Maan, I think it's pretty late now, let's opt for a serene sleep" she persisted.
"Geet, Mmm" he groaned while inhaling the scent of her cascading locks and tucking them behind her ears before planting a soft, chubby kiss on her cheeks.
"Maan, get up!" she ordered.
"Not before my goodnight kiss," the smirk was clearly visible on his face and her blush didn't go unnoticed.
