"where the hell were you?" Geet's father thundered the moment she walked into her apartment.
he always had a vile temper and was always a control freak.

"out" she replied in a clipped and calm tone.
The fact that her father had barged into her apartment without the decency of letting her know was intolerable to her yet she kept her cool on the surface for she knew that any altercation with him can land him up in the hospital since he had a bad heart.

"With that s**n*! how could you? after all he did to you, all that we had to go through?" he spat out in fury.
He had landed himself up at his daughter's apartment as soon as he got the information that she had gone to see Maan. He detested of the fellow back then when he was a pauper and even now when he was a budding industrialist with his face plastered all along the city billboards and economy magazines and T.V. channels. To the business world he was the new sweetheart! but to the great Mohinder Handa he was a scamster, a piece of dirt who had managed to make it big by squandering the money of various respectable company owners giving or rather posing to give them respite by taking over their industries for peanuts and making huge profits from them. But his own daughter refused to keep up with this simple truth. She was all blind in love.

"what he did??!!!!!!! or what you staged and made us believe, it was never him, it was always about you, you never wanted me to be happy, to be with him. you had the impression that if i go on to live with him then i would forget you. you wanted all of myself for you only. how could you do this to me?"

Geet couldn't help the tears from spilling all over her face and she broke into inconsolable sobs. she fell to the floor hugging her knees close to her chest as if trying to gather all that had been lost, all those five years when she and Maan could have been happy yet because of her father she has to go through all the emotional turmoil and yet he never owned up to his mistakes.

"Just shut up Geet! all that i did was for your good and anyways whatever has been done is done, he no longer has anything to do with your life. and how can you love someone that low! Look at your lineage. You come from a family where you were brought up with discipline, went to the best school, college and university, you are bred with impeccable social etiquette and your forefathers they were all refined learned men not some piece of dirt. Now c'mon be a good girl, get up wash your face, forget about everything and enough of you staying away from home in this apartment, lets go back home to the mansion, i feel lonely without you and that guy, just let him go, he is out of your life and for the better. I'll be waiting for you in the car, come soon". with that Mohinder Handa turned the door knob and was about to leave but what Geet said made him stop and turn around.

"Huh! to you he is my past! but is he actually my past?!" Geet mocked while her father gave her a quizzical expression

"You cannot control everything sir, there's something called destiny, god, fate and when they play their part noboby in this world can turn that around. He is my present. he is my husband. you tried your level best but couldn't break us apart such is our love." Geet said.

"what nonsense! have you been drinking?!!!!!!!!! I myself made sure that he is out from your life, i made that lawyer draw those papers and made you and that dirt sign them. gosh Geet you have gone insane" he replied firmly.

"Insane! who me? nah! That lawyer that you had employed was never a lawyer. the papers that he drew up were never our divorce papers. Those papers and any of the papers that i trashed in my bin during the day, there isn't any difference between them. so Mr Mohinder Handa I have not been drinking but i guess you need a reality check. you cannot be all hat perfe..." before she could complete the sound of slap roared across the room and door banged.
Mohinder Handa left.

"He left sweetheart. He doesn't care about you or the baby. All he wanted from you was money. He was always after your wealth darling he never loved you" He soothed his daughter while she wept.

"No!No! No! It cant' be true! He promised that he would be back, for me for the baby. He loves me and he loves his baby. It cannot be. he cannot leave me. did you tell him about my condition? did you dad?" Geet asked all dazed and disoriented.

Mohinder Handa simply nodded. Yes i did. Now sleep. You cannot take so much stress. It can be really harmful for you and the baby. Sleep" And he soothed his daughter, running his hand across her forehead sending her to a fitful but disturbed sleep with nightmares.

When she woke up she had lost everything all were gone everything!
Wish she hadn't slept.

The sudden glimpse from the past left her all drained. she had cried and begged and she was still crying all because of one mistake. Wish she could turn the clock back and correct all the mistakes undo all the wrongs. If only she could get another chance. if only she could tell Maan about all the things, all that had transpired. She couldn't bear the hatred that she saw in his eyes for her. The eyes that once looked at her with raw passion and love. love that had no limits. If only her father could understand that money cannot be everything. If only if...

she hoped
her hopes were shattered
now all that's between her and the prince was

Maan stood in his balcony staring at the city with its glittering lights and all the hustle bustle. He sipped on from the glass of whiskey that he held in his hand but his thoughts wandered to Geet and their meeting.

When she talked about her father, various emotions flitted across her face. As if she wanted to say something. there was one expression which was particularly unfathomable for Maan. Though he had read into it yet it disturbed him to the core.

"Trapped" she looked trapped but why? he thought.
and then the inevitable answer probably because she was still tied to him.
His expression changed from melancholy to grim.
Fine he would free her. Not because he was worried about his own wedding. It was just a mere contract marriage that he had agreed to and that too more his own benefits which he was contemplating to call off . Infact when Geet had first mentioned that they were still married he was furious as it could ruin his hard earned public image but when he thought about it in the solitude of his car he felt a sense of contentment since it gave him a substantial and concrete reason to bow out of his agreement with Sameera his so called fiance, for he knew both Sameera and her dad wont let f him if he planned to call off their wedding in the 11th hour as it would raise a lot of eyebrows in the press and may even tarnish his image along with Sameera's. yet he could think about all that later the task at hand was Geet. he made it a point to speak to his lawyers first thing in the morning and even Mr Shergill Sam's dad.

with that gulped the remnants of the glass in a go.
