She was looking out of the window when the fog started settling around her making everything dark n gloomy. She was back into that house, that room. The locking of door made her turn towards it. He stood there, her nightmare, tall n cruel. She could see herself lying on the bed, sleeping.
He was looking at her sleeping form with his lecherous eyes. Wake up. She shouted to herself but her voice faded onto oblivion. He walked towards the bed settling beside her. He kept a hand on her shoulder n she woke up.
Who- what are you doing here? She heard her strained voice as she saw herself scooting back on the bed. He pulled her down below him burying his face into the crook of her neck, the nasty sound of his mouth sucking at her skin killing her and the smell of alcohol from his mouth making her breathing difficult.
Koi hai? Veerji' Tayaji'. Get off me. She called for help but nobody was listening to her. Mama, Papa ji.
Geet saw all this from beside the window. She saw herself struggling n screaming n the bas***d kissing her form.
They are dead. Your mama, papaji. They are dead. Nobody would come. The home is empty right now. So don't you dare stop me.
No. She pushed him back n ran towards the door. He was faster, pushed her against the wall n tearing her kurta. Please leave me. She cried. Koi hai.
He bit on her cleavage n she slapped him. He slapped her back with twice the force n that was when she decided to help herself. She ran toward the man but when she tried to touch him, push him her hand went through his body.
With her own eyes she witnessed him beating her, numerous kicks, slaps n punches, heard her own screams for her family to come, for him to have some mercy. But he was an animal n he beat her like something with no sense of pain.
Please leave her. Geet cried n screamed n pleaded for him to leave herself. She tried to throw him away from her body but didn't succeed like before.
She closed her ears to block out her own screams of sheer agony. There was so much noise n aches, so much of brutality. She couldn't take it, she would die.
Her eyes opened breathing broken n rugged. Remembering the dream and past she cried n desperately looked around for Maan. Like last time she had the nightmare, she wished him to be there but he wasn't and she was really scared. Tears poured ceaselessly as she assured herself that she was safe here, nobody would harm her. That man would never come back but she couldn't sleep.
Terrified out of her wits Geet decided to go out of her room. She couldn't stay there after having that dream. The dream made the safe margins of her room seeming too small n lonely. Carefully she came to the corridor through Jia's room and went downstairs.
Two days had passed since that fateful night of Maan and Meera's encounter. And after that Geet avoided Maan like plague; he seemed to have no problem with it. Neither he anymore sent food for her nor did he come to sleep with her.
Sometimes Geet felt utterly confused if she should be happy or mourn at her ill fate. She had gone back to her old ways less food n more pills but at night she still continued having 1 sleeping pill instead of 2. Don't know why just she did. Dadimaa was also not at home, she was on a political tour for two weeks which was good. This way nobody bothered why she didn't came out of her room.
Why are you here at this time? Rohan asked. He was coming back from a club n it was around 2 am.
I-I couldn't sleep. Geet answered startled by Rohan's sudden presence in the living room where she was sitting for past half an hour.
Why? He sat beside her on the sofa.
Had a bad dream. She answered shyly.
Oh when Jia has a bad dream she cuddles to Maan. He joked but Geet flinched instead of blushing or laughing.
Is everything alright? He asked a little worried seeing her frightened state.
Yes. The answer was cold n blank.
Okay if you don't want to talk.
No.. Geet spoke when he started to stand up. How could she be so rude? He was a family member n she needed to mix with him. But she had lost all her social abilities n it was difficult for her to get mix up with even her own friends let alone new people. Sorry. I didn't mean to be rude. Rohan again settled beside her.
It was good for her also if he stayed for a bit because she was at the moment scared to be left alone. May be he could distract her mind from that man. How difficult would it be to talk for a little while? After a few minutes of silence where Rohan just stared at her for her to start the conversation this time, she spoke. So, where are you coming from?
Club. Do you go clubbing?
Umm' No. I don't like crowd.
Okay. So what you like?
She had to think about that and Rohan wondered if she was normal. I like cooking. Yes, she liked it helped her to pass time. I know many cuisines. I recently learned Japanese. My friend was there n I had thought I would cook it for her when she came back.
You mean the friend who came to visit that day?
Yes. Her face saddened.
You both didn't seem very happy when she left. Rohan had caught bits n pieces of the convo n he was curious to know more.
We had a fight. Her eyes watered n a shiny tear rolled down her cheek. His hand instinctively came up to wipe the drop. She was surprised but didn't back away while he retreated his hand back with a smile. It was a friendly gesture.
Fights ends, true friendship doesn't.
Hmm. You think so? She asked nervously playing with the end of her dubatta. May be she needed just a little assurance that Meera wouldn't remain mad at her. But if she was then it wasn't her fault, she herself pushed Meera away. She had every right to be mad but Geet still didn't want to lose her.
Yes. He gave another smile.
What do you like?
Apart from messing with your hubby I like photography. Actually I love it. In the wilderness capturing nature's beauty into camara is my passion.
Must be fun.
You can't even imagine. You can also try it. KC has a big garden. It's nothing compared to the forests but at the back it spreads into quite a large area. We can get few shots. I will help you.
Geet wasn't sure but smiled nonetheless. They again fell into silence n Rohan switched on the TV. You don't want to sleep.
Na uh. I am not sleepy. He lied, surfing through the channels n stopping at Ghost Rider playing on Star Movies. He could feel Geet was scared so decided to stay with her. Is the movie okay with you?
Geet shrugged. Yes.
She watched the burning skeleton riding a burning bike n killing evil. It wasn't interesting but Rohan's presence there gave her a sense of security n she felt calmer. When she turned her head around Rohan had already slept. She switched off the TV n brought a blanket for him.
Rohan. Maan's loud voice brought Rohan out of his dreams while Geet who was sitting with her head resting on the sofa's back also opened her eyes.
She didn't sleep even a tad bit but was just sitting there with her eyes closed. When she saw Maan standing there with eyes on fire n hands crossed over his chest in an intimidating manner she stood up anxiously.
Why are shouting over my head? Rohan asked brows furrowed in a universal sign of frustration.
Don't you have a room to sleep in?
No, I wanted to sleep with your wife. He grinned when Maan's jaw tightened.
I-I will get the breakfast ready. Geet said her face red n ran away. She actually saw him after two days n sight wasn't pretty. His anger gave her chills.
Rohan sobered. Was just kidding Maan? She was troubled so we were just talking, phir meri ankh lag gai.
Consider it as an advice, stay away from her. Everything is not what it seems. She may look but she isn't that naive.
Rohan due to some reason didn't agree. I don't think so. It could be a misunderstanding.
You think you know her more than me. Last night was perhaps the first night you talked her-I don't know how much-n you think you know it all. No you don't. There was concern in Maan's voice but Rohan could also feel the tinge of accusation n jealously in his voice so he didn't argue any further.
Whatever Maan. You do what you want but I am big enough. I don't need your guidance. Before leaving he turned around again to look at Maan. Rohan's face was serious as he raised the blanket in his hand. And, she gave me blanket. He grinned sticking his tongue out n walked away leaving Maan seething in anger.
