Hey folks, finally back with a installment for this SS. This SS keeps getting longer than I planned. I am thinking one more part to go, hopefully. Anywho, thank you for your patience while waiting for an update, I know I am not the fastest updater but I do have to put university first. So'just not for me..but for all the IF writers, be nice. Be polite when asking for a update, it's isn't right to just demand one. 😳

Anywho...hope u all enjoy this one 😳

CH.4

"I love you, I love with everything I have. Why can't our love be enough for us?"

"It's isn't. I guess our love wasn't strong to last the test of time.", she said before she turned around to walk out of his life.

"Wait. You may walk away today but two people that are meant to be together --

Geet was rudely jarred out of her thoughts with a light knock against the oak door. Her typing paused midway as the knock fought to be heard over the fierce wind. Who could it possibly be ? There was a wild blizzard raging outside. Thoughts of someone being hurt or needing help had Geet rushing to the door.

"Who is it ?", she asked against the noise of the wind.

Muffled sounds answered but Geet wasn't able to understand anything over the wind howling like a wolf.

She threw the door open and her eyes widened as she took in the sight. Shock hit her as she stood there as if paralyzed, unaware of the fright weather. In the split second she had opened the door, she felt like she was living a dream. There he was, only him. Even the wild wind had paused momentarily to witness the moment. It was as if they were both in one of those crystal globes, with white flakes flowing around them. There stood Maan Singh Khurana in front of Geet after six long years.

She thought she had seen the last of Maan when she drove away from his residence, but fate seemed to have other thoughts in mind. She stood there, unable to move yet his name escaped her mouth, barely audible, "Maan"

He staggered forward a step or two before he collapsed. Geet rushed forward, struggling to support his weight before he hit the floor. Geet felt like she had touched ice, Maan's body was literally freezing. "Maan, Maan", he called out to him but to no avail. She pushed her way through the hall, going into the living room placing Maan's limp on the floor cushions near the fireplace hoping the flames would warm him.

She seemed to be an auto mode, her brain hadn't fully registered the fact that Maan, the man she walked away from six years ago had made a reentry in her life, but only when he himself was barely holding onto the threads of his life.

Oh Babaji, What are you up to now ?

She rushed off to gather blankets and towels, making a stop outside her daughter's room to see if the storm had disturbed her. She was five, still young enough to be troubled at times during the nighttime, especially storms like tonight. Geet adjusted her blanket and planted a kiss on her forehead before she raced out.

Making her way back to the living room, Maan hadn't moved an inch. It seemed as though he had gotten stuck without shelter once the storm hit a few hours earlier. But what Maan was doing in a little town of Canada was something Geet couldn't understand.

She felt for a pulse, and sighed in relief when she found one; though weak it was still there. She made a mad dash to the landline phone, desperately hoping for a dial tone. But if only Babaji would be so kind. And even if the phones were working, a doctor wouldn't be able to make it out to her isolated cabin.

Geet popped Maan into a sitting position shrugging him out of his light coat and hesitated at the buttons of his shirt. He was becoming hypothermic. He wasn't even shivering anymore which was a warning sign. It meant that his temperature had so low that the shivering reflex had stopped. It was necessary to get him out of his wet clothes but Geet's hands seemed frozen. Yes, she was seeing Maan after years, he was almost like a stranger but didn't humanity applied to strangers ?

Yes Geet, it does. Even if requires you to strip a man you once loved

She needed to save his life. Phones lines are dead, the roads are blocked with the raging blizzard; there was no way to get a doctor here.

Buttoning down and slipping off his shirt , she patted dry his still flawless body with a towel and tried her hardest to keep her eyes away from the well defined contours of his upper body. Six years may have gone by but he still seemed to make her heart beat a tad faster.

That's just the nervousness of seeing Maan like this after so many years

She slipped one of Yash's t-shirt on and added a warm pullover it. His pants were rather dry so that was a line, thankfully she wouldn't have to cross. But still, she patted the towel against his pants to absorb any wetness. She settled him back against the cushions. Next she took off his shocks and shoes, again drying his skin the best she could. She started running her hands along the sole of his feet for warmth before she added wool socks to his feet. Bundling him in thick blankets, she sat by his side rubbing his hands. She felt for his pulse and though weak, she was relived to find it. He hadn't woken, but lay there cold and motionless as if dead. That thought sent a stab to her heart. His body temperature needed to go up and for that, Geet knew, body heat was the best option.

She paused off for a moment, but then slipped off her sweater leaving her in only a T-shirt. She went to her room to change into shorts instead of the thick trousers she had on.

Remember Geet; humanity requires you to do this. Only because it's what you have to do to save him.

She gazed down at his motionless body and gasped. The reality of Maan not being able to make it through the night hit her like ice-cold water. Lowering herself down, she gave in to the urge to caress his cheek, ever so slightly. His black jet hair still felt soft to her touch as she ran her fingers through it. She wished he would open those 'beautiful' hazel eyes that had captivated since the first day. Startled by the moisture that landed on his cheeks, she touched her own cheeks and realized that she was crying. She hadn't cried over Maan in many years; she had refused to cry over him, refused to let her loneliness show. But now the dam broke, she let the tears flow. The tears of fear of losing him yet again, the tears of sheer relief of being able to hold him and the tears of the love she still carried for this man.

She took a deep breath, wiping the last of her tears and slipped under the heaps of blankets, hesitantly inching her body closer to Maan. That was the whole point of body heat, wasn't it? A shiver went down her spine and Maan remained motionless as she wrapped her arms around his waist not leaving an inch of space between them. She settled her head on his chest, reliving the precious moments she used to cuddle in the warmth of his arms, her safe haven. For a moment, Geet was relieved that Maan hadn't seen her like this, like a blushing teenager. Geet had grown up, grown up a lot since Maan's betrayal.

Even six years later, that fateful night was clear as the cloudless sky, every detail crisp. Even if it didn't hurt as much, the pain still lay buried in a small hook of her heart.

Flashback

"I only married Meera because that was her last wish. She was dying, dying with cancer. That's why she had called me to London. It was a dying wish of my best friend."

Geet let out a gasp. Meera was dead ? "B-but, how can that be ? She was perfectly fine six months ago when she visited us."

Maan let out a defeated sigh, letting the car support his weight as he sunk to the ground. "She has been hiding her illness from everyone for years and she has been in love with me even before that."

A silent stream of tears tumbled down. The night kept throwing surprises Geet's way and she felt herself losing the fight to stay strong. Geet could hardly believe her ears. Meera was dead, Meera had been a friend..a close friend.

Geet sank down to sit next to Maan and drew him into a tight embrace. Despite Maan's actions, Geet knew they both needed to mourn the loss of their friend, the sister like friend Geet knew, the best friend Maan had all his life and for the friend who fought a painful disease. But deep down, Geet knew she would never be able to mourn for the woman who stole the man she loved so deeply.

Pulling away and wiping her tears, she looked Maan in the eyes, "Why ? Why hide all this from me ?"

"I just". He downcast his eyes. "I knew I wouldn't be able to look in your eyes. I wouldn't be able to see the hurt I am seeing right now." He reached out to wipe a stray tear from the corner of her eye. "I wouldn't be able to bear to see you crying like this."

"No Maan. You had no faith in your Geet." She continued on even when he opened his mouth to cut her off. "If you had called me, I would have told you myself to marry Meera. How could I have denied Meera's wish ?"

Geet stood up and Maan followed suit. "Geet, I am sorry. Believe me, I am."

"I know you are but unfortunately that's isn't enough. A relationship needs faith and trust along with love, it can't survive with only love."

Maan took a step closer just as she took one back, "I need another chance Geet, one more chance."

"I am sorry but I can't. My heart can't survive another heartbreak. I am sorry about Meera, despite everything, I still love her as a friend. You did what you thought was right and I am doing what I think is right for myself."

"Geet, I can't stop you because I have lost the right. But I will always love you."

Geet turned away from Maan and momentarily shut her eyes to savor his last words to her.

She faced him once again. " I am walking away not because you married Meera but because you didn't have faith that I would support your decision."

I will always love you too, Maan

Geet stiffened and was pulled away from the past as she felt Maan's nose nuzzle against her hair lightly. She raised herself slightly to see if he was awake, he murmured something incoherent in his sleep when she felt a sense of dj vu at the familiar sensation of Maan treading his fingers through her hair. Startled, she looked up just as Maan lowered his lips to brush up against hers. A feather like brush at first but soon deepened. Geet tried, she knew she tried to pull away.

"Geet, please..let me kiss you once more before this dream is broken again.", with those words spoken, Geet felt the pain Maan still suffered through. He was exactly where she had left his six years ago.

As Maan brought his lips back to hers and kissed her with fervor she had never been kissed with before. She felt her muscles go lax as she melted into the kiss.

Moments later she pulled herself back, "Maan", a soft whisper escaped her just as his eyes slowly fluttered open.

"Mommy", a small voice called out.

Geet snapped her eyes to her daughter who was standing across the room, rubbing her eyes.

So, over to you all. Let me know what you thought of it😳

Love, love, love,

Reya <3
