Hey all😃
As promised in my note, I am here with an update in the first week of November. Lolz, yay me😃. Bear in mind that it is relatively short but it has the much-awaited Maan-Geet confrontation. Hope I did justice to it *fingers crossed* 😳...Enjoyyy😊
Ch.3
It had been an hour since Geet had left home to confront Maan but she was still sitting on the hood of her car on the vacant Delhi street. under the glow of the low fluorescent street light, fighting a battle with her mind and heart. Though the verdict had been given long before; the battle between her heart and mind could only be settled with Maan's words. She just had to build the courage to face him. She went back to her car and threw the car in drive, turning into the direction of Maan's residence.
She blinked away the tears away she had been silently shedding, as she made a stop right at the Khurana Mansion gate and tried to ready herself to face Maan, and a possible truth that could change their life forever.
She rolled down her window to call out to the security guard who was fast asleep, "Excuse me, I need to see Maan Singh Khurana."
The disoriented guard stood up hastily and gave his watch a glance before giving me a 'do-you-have-any-idea-what-time-it-is' look, "Maam, Maan sahab and the family are sleeping right now, you will have to wait till tomorrow morning.", he informed politely but honest to Babaji, she felt like screaming her lungs out.
Her heart sank, maybe because a part of her was hoping that somehow Adi's words wouldn't be true and the guard would tell her that Maan was still in London.
"Well, then wake your Maan sahab and tell him Geet wants to see him."
"But Geet Madam, Maan sahab is in his outhouse and he has given strict orders not to be disturbed, even by family.
"well, I don't give a damn. You either get Maan here or I swear on Babaji, I will run this car through this iron gate." She grinded her teeth, took deep breaths ,praying for patience so she could refrain from physical harm.
Here my life was turning upside down in just one night and this idiot doesn't get it.
The guard nodded quickly before he picked up the phone from his booth, sharing hushed words.
A minute or two may have passed before the guard gestured her thru the gate. Just as she parked close to the outhouse , a place she spent so many happy days before. She willed herself to be strong as a rush of memories threatened to break her dam of tears. The man of the hour, her supposedly fiance came through the door just as Geet let herself out.
Her breath caught at the sight of disheveled appearance. Bloodshed eyes. More than a few days of facial hair along his jaw that was usually kept at light stubble. Wrinkled, days' old dress pants and tucked out collared shirt. This man looked nothing like the orderly, with a mild case of OCD Maan Singh Khurana she knew.
She fought the urge to throw herself in his arms, to draw in his comforting scent. Oh, how easy would it be to fit into his arms again?
No Geet, Don't you dare. Stay exactly where you are
"Geet", he acknowledged her without a trace of surprise. As if he was expecting her. She gave him a hard look and at that, his eyes downcast before she could read them
No Babaji, I am begging you. Don't shatter my world like this
But that at very moment, as soon as Maan had lowered his eyes. She knew the truth and it hit her like a hard punch in the stomach.
Maan, since the first day they had met, had a tendency to look Geet in the eyes more often that what others would consider normal. At first, it use to unnerve her because she was more on the shy side. But she had asked him one random day as she was cuddled in his arms.
"Because I love your beautiful eyes, two pools of hazel heaven I can drown in"
She chuckled. "How poetic, I am flattered". She trailed a lazy hand along his arm. "But seriously, why ?"
"Your eyes are the gateway to your soul, your emotions are laid out in your eyes like a open book. And also because, I want you to be able to read the honesty in my eyes, to know that I mean every word I say. And the day I lower them in my face, that means I don't have courage to look at you because I have let you down somehow."
The old memory had her fighting another onslaught of tears. There would be time for them later, in solitude. Though she already knew the answer, Geet dared herself to ask the question: she needed the words
"Is it true? Did you marry Meera in London?". She kept her voice flat, void of the heartbreak she was feeling.
Maan took a step forward to reach out of her but Geet instinctively backpedaled, away from him because his touch undid her in a way she couldn't control.
"Just give me a chance to explain, please Geet.", he pleaded.
"Just a damn yes or no, Maan. How hard can one word be for you to say ?"
"Geet please, you need to give a chance---"
"Yes or No ?", she shouted, not caring who heard her.
"Yes." And this time he locked his gaze with hers. She read the honesty loud and clear. And that very moment, Geet heard her own heart shatter. She acted before she thought, her hand struck against his cheek soundly. And that came as a surprise because Geet wasn't prone to violence. She gasped, but wasn't ashamed.
Maan barely registered the slap, "I deserve that."
"That and much more. I hate you. I loved you with everything I had but right now, I have never hated anyone more. You broke my trust and shattered my world. I hate you and I never want to see you again." Venom dripped from her voice. Maan made her release a child within herself today, one she had fought against until she met Maan. The child that knew that the world wasn't full of good people, it had people that broke hearts, didn't know how to love. Maan had been the one to chase that child again when he loved her, healed her and made her trust him with every fibre of her existence. And today, he had brought the child back in full force.
Swallowing the tennis ball sized lump in her throat, she turned on her heel towards her car. Maan reached out to capture her wrist gently, "Geet, I can explain."
Geet whirled around, not heeding to the angry, hot tears that were rolling down her cheeks, "What is there to explain? Just what can you say that will miraculously make everything all right? You left India as a engaged man and came back as a married man, but wait, it gets interesting because you married your best friend, who just for the record, wasn't your fianc.
Even to her ears, this seemed like a plot pulled out of a bollywood movie. Unbelievably ridiculous .She tugged at the hold of her wrist, breaking free.
"Nothing you can say will explain why you betrayed me. It's over and I never want to see you again."
She grabbed the door handle planning to be as far away from this man as possible, before Maan reached out and pinned her against the car. He moved like a bolt of lighting before she even got a chance to move. And now their bodies were mere inches from each other as Maan held her shoulders in a death grip.
"Just wait a damn minute. You can't walk away like this...I love you, I love you so much", He whispered harshly.
"How dare you say that to me after you have ? And mind you, you are now a married man." She glared at him, and hated herself when she felt herself melting with the tender, sorrowfulness in his eyes. And the warmth of his body as their bodies almost brushed together had Geet fighting for a thread of control because like she just said, Maan was now a married man. A married man she is hopelessly in love with.
"You have to hear me out, Geet. Please" His fingers gazed her cheeks as he put a stray lock of her hair behind her ear. She stiffened as an unwanted shiver went through her body. And her lips were inches away from his before reality bit her.
She shoved hard at him and fought out of his arms She turned away from him, breathing heavily for a moment or two before she composed herself to look at him.
"Fine, Let's hear it." She crossed her arms with a grim expression and waited.
He sighed softly. "I am not a married man. I am a widower." And once again their eyes met each other.
Well..there it is. Now for those who had some faith in Maan can vent their anger...or not..It wasn't much of a cliffhanger...and i pretty much gave it all away so bring on your guesses for what's next
