Chapter 1 - 8
Dr. Vandana is a psychiatrist who is incarcerated in a mental asylum for killing seven of her own patients. Dr. Geet Handa visits Dr. Vandana frequently to find where those seven teens are buried as Dr. Vandana exhibits her psychosis. In a twisted way, Dr. Vandana counsels Geet, deferring to her profession which is both appreciated and useful for Geet's own investigations.
She and ACP Maan Singh Khurana have worked in the past. Maan seeks out her counsel again for a new case.
[Geet's father was a psychologist who died when Geet was only seventeen. He died in a freak fire that was set in his office. Dr. Vandana had worked closely with her father. She is raised by Gaargi, her aunt. She meets Venkat the investigative officer on the case.]
Maan takes Geet to a crime scene that's sealed and waiting for her. She gets reacquainted with Inspector Satya, David - from forensics / ME and meets Emily who joins Maan's team after transferring out of anti-terrorist cell. The crime scene is familiar to the one the team has encountered two months ago. The victims are mother and son duo; Mrs. Guha and her thirteen year old son. David hypothesizes that Mrs. Guha was probably bled to death and watched her son die. The son was killed on ground and placed close to his mother and covered in sheet. Geet and Emily work on the crime scene while Maan sits it out. Geet is unsure about his emotional state.
Maan's earliest memory of his childhood is when he was none. Before that it's particularly blank. He seeks Geet out that very evening and asks for her professional advice. The first crime scene two months ago and the one on the day have triggered some past memories. Geet isn't sure if they are real memories or false ones which have manifested after encountering these crimes. He stays the night after Geet's nudging.
Mr. Guha, who was away on the day of murder is interviewed. Mr. Guha travels frequently and has missed out a lot on his son's life. He is very affectionate of his son and makes up for it whenever he is around. Maan pushes his button when he insinuates Mrs. Guha cheating on him. Geet and Emily discuss on the other side of the interview room about the logistics of Geet's work and using micro expressions and crime scene observations to break Mr. Guha; a bet that pays off to their advantage.
The team goes back to crime scene at night to get acquainted with the crime scene at the time of day when the crime was committed. While walking through the crime scene at night, the team makes some interesting observations.
a) No forced entry into the house.
b) Porch lights aren't working anymore.
c) Someone came in with a ruse that would involve both mother and son.
d) The son died first as confirmed by autopsy. Geet hypothesizes it could be because the perpetrator wanted to spend time with the mother. Most stab wounds occur on genitalia and breasts. Could be an attack on motherhood itself. Killer probably identifies with the boy, Maan thinks.
e) Maan's analysis of two crime scenes: A dominant and influential parent and the other is mostly absent. Knife is the primary weapon. Child dies and then parent. Extreme violence.
f) Geet screams to check if any neighbors heard anything though Satya's interviews of the neighbors hasn't given them any positive responses. Lights go on in one room in property next to Guhas which gives Geet a hope that maybe one of the member in neighbor's family may have heard something.
It still didn't answer all the questions.
Geet reveals to Emily that she has known Maan since they were both seventeen years old. Emily rakes up a topic Geet avoids: why are Maan and Geet are in the profession that could only bring pain giving their backgrounds while they could have had any kind of career and excel, especially with the affluent lifestyle they are both part of. Emily hits the mark when she asks "What are you two search for?"
The previous case involved a father - daughter duo. The extent of violence was less and wasn't similar to Guha family.
[Maan has a flashback while walking through the crime scene that stresses him more than the usual.]
Note: I will do another summary for some more chapters tomorrow. I am reacquainting myself with this story again so that I can take this to what I had initially planned for this. Thankfully I still have notes for this one :-)
