The internet sings a new tune⭐️
Every afternoon during her lunch break, Kavita Pradhan and her office colleagues huddle around her laptop and log in to see the latest development in Geet's life. Geet who?😡 Well, Geet Khurana is the protagonist of Star One's Geet Hui Sabse Parayi, who began her teary journey on Star One, a year and a half ago.
Viewers empathised with the girl from a small-town Punjabi family who was duped by her fianc, her NRI mangetar, who married her only to leave her stranded on the airport, taking away all her jewellery (by the way, he was already married!). And while many tears have been shed since then ' not to forget Geet's love story and her subsequent marriage to Maan (Gurmeet Choudhary)😉 , her knight in shining armour👏 ' the show has now found a loyal audience online (the dismal TRPs tell another story on the TV side).
Says Deepak Dhar of Endemol which co-produces the show for Star One, "Well, every show has a graphy and Geet has reached a plateau. But we are soon going to shake up things a bit more and tweak the story-line; it's a work-in-progress but it's very popular on Youtube. A lot of viewers find it convenient to catch the show online than on TV, maybe due to time constraints."
Says Kavita, "I prefer watching Geet' on Youtube. There is no time to catch the telecasts as I reach home very late and I like to keep myself updated on these shows. It's not that I watch the episode online every day but once in three days or so I catch two-three episodes back to back. It not only gives you a chance to watch it at your pace but also keep you posted on what's happening with the characters."
Gurmeet Choudhary says he's aware of the fact the Geet has more online fans "and that too in countries like the US and the UK. The NRI community, I know for sure, catches the episodes online. I get feedback based on that. I am told they watch most shows of Star One and other channels on Youtube and other websites. I have never understood how the system of ratings works so it surprises me when I meet fans all the time who tell you how much they love your shows and characters but it doesn't reflect in the TRPs."
Dhar says it's the convergence of the media that's leading to shows being popular on the net vis-a-vis a channel. "You will see viewers sampling content on other mediums as well, like on a mobile phone. It's happening already. Shows like Geet' and even our other productions like Khatron Ke Khiladi or Bigg Boss get maximum hits online. It's the 360 degree reach these shows enjoy with the coming together of different mediums of communication."
For all you know, the audience lost in TRPs is perhaps gained in the 'hits' game. We tried getting in touch with the Star One officials but looks like they are too busy solving the puzzle of poor ratings.
