I can understand the angst against all this monitoring and agree it is not perfect but a few points here
1. The coverage of TAM i.e. the number of households covered as samples is ONE OF THE LARGEST IN THE WORLD. it is already much bigger than most other countries... this is not to say it is perfect, but it definitely an effort much larger than other such efforts...
of course there is scope for improvement thoughwhich TAM is already doing,... in the next 5 years, TAM is looking at increasing the coverage 4 times the current one
2. The viewers are not disclosed because otherwise ANYONE CAN INLUENCE OR BRIBE THEM... which is why it is a closely guarded secret...
3. If powerful Production houses could at will influence it, then WE WOULD NEVER HAVE EKTA KAPOOR SERIALS BEING AXED 😆😆... (cases-in-point: Tere Liye, Kitni Mohabbat Hai etc)
AND TRUST ME IF THEY COMPLETELY HAD THE SYTEM IN THEIR HANDS, THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PKYEK AND GEET WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN 0.3, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN SOME 2-3 TRPS... OR EVEN MORE😃
4. Online viewership has not as yet been taken into account because the INTERNET PENETRATION IN INDIA CURRENTLY IS ABYSMAL...
So if you think TAM coverage is low, the coverage of Forums like these would be in decimal points!
hence for a lot of Youth based channels and shows, advertisers dont simply taken into account the TRPs... which is how channels like MTV and Channel V ('ZERO TRPs' shows and channels) still get advertising
This would also explain why Geet is still getting decent advertising... based on their previous equity... however, they cant simply keep relying on past equity without the support of at least half-decent TRPs... i mean we dont want to wait till it becomes like RBO right?
5. THE SAME TAM RATINGS EARLIER USED TO CONSISENTLY GET GEET TRPS OF 1.0 TO 1.5, OFTEN EASILY AHEAD OF PKYEK... (i used to track it week on week and analyse what episodes did well, what didnt... trust me... the fall in ratings STRICTLY coinicided with the furore here in the Forum...EACH TIME... irritation here was reflected outside too
Hence the fall in TRPs cannot be blamed on the easier option of TAM problems... TAM with its problesm got it the highest TRPs... for a long stretch...
the fall is definitely partly due to a fall in REACH (lesser people watching hence even amongst houses with Peoplemeters, lesser viewing) abd a fall in TIME SPENT (people watching for lesser time, proportionately being reduced even for TAM HHs, earlier all of us used to watch the entire show, now we stick to Maaneet scenes or less)
TAM is not perfect... but it has remained the same... Geet was PERFECT but has not remained the same... with the same constant flaws TAM has showed a change in ratings... just because it is low now doesnt entirely mean that now the system sucks...
I remember that DMG and all had also at the end talked about this... but the reason was simply that the show was not able to get back its former glory by taking note of the public sentiment!
There! there is no excuse for a good, coherent story, logical tracks, and progressive and forward looking evolution of ALL characters... not just leads!! And above all, you CANNOT ignore the Pubic sentiment which is reflected here... you cant assume viewers are illogical people with short memories!
PS: I am not a TAM employee 😆😆, only a Media Analyst who used to once LUURRRVE Geet 😭😭😭!
