Part 2
Geet wept and wept holding her husband tightly and kept on murmuring 'I am so sorry..I am so sorry'. Maan , for the first time in his life was rendered speechless. He could only just hug her as if his life depended on that hug, and let the warmth from his body seep into her cold, lifeless form. At that time words were not required. Geet just wanted to be in the safe haven of her husband's arms for the rest of her life.
His eyes were over-bright but dry when he lifted his head and smoothed her hair gently from her face. 'How are you doing? Sorry, stupid question.''I've been better.' She knuckled a damp cheek. 'Let me.' He cradled her face in his palms as if she might break and smoothed his thumbs over her cheekbones. 'You're a strong woman. You'll get through this.'
Guilt and misery stirred a deadly cocktail with the drugs in her stomach. Her head felt like a melon, too heavy to hold up. She had to tell him how exactly she lost her baby. She had to tell him what transpired before he had found her curled in a foetal position in the living room, with blood everywhere. She had to tell him the truth.
'Here.' He unzipped the bag and pulled out a parcel. 'A CD player. And Some film magazinges.' She shook her head, forced a smile. 'Only you would think of that.' Only you....As he was putting the things on the small table near her bed, he saw a swollen purple bruise on her elbow. His eyes narrowed and his lips compressed, when he saw similar discolorations on her neck. He blanched with shock and asked her . 'Geet what the hell happened? Please tell me .'
She wanted to pull the sheet over the evidence, but the damage was done. He touched her as if she was a fragile doll and untied her hospital dressing gown. She tried to stop him but he looked deep into her eyes and said ' I have the right to see you.' As he untied her dressing gown, he saw ugly bruises on her back and beneath her breasts. He was livid with anger and shock. Something really bad has happened to his Geet and he shamefully realized, that he could not keep his promise of protecting his wife and their unborn child.
