I'm pretty sure she's Gujarati, but she does a good job taking on a Punjabi lead! I was almost convinced she was Punjabi.

Birth and Life

Born and brought up in Mumbai, Chinky is known by many for her bubbly and vivacious nature. She was born on 10 January 1985 in a gujarati family. After schooling at Mary Immaculate Girl's High School, Borivili (West) she joined Mithibai college to pursue an Arts degree and majored in Sociology. Drashti presently lives in Borivili with her Parents, elder brother and sister-in-law.

I think Drashti is Punjabi because I remember in one of the interviews Gurmeet was saying how they all have so much fun since they're all Punjabi there or something along those lines. I don't remember in full detail, but I do know that Drashti is Punjabi.

only reason im saying so is that in one of her articles, wherre drashti is talking about shooting in amritsar, she says how nice it is to visit her parents religious shrine(the golden temple) as she has never been..
so from this i think its safe to say shes a punjabi sikh... remembner the way she spke in punjabi to gurmeet on SBS (following the wheres the party sequence with pari? wherre geet turns detective for sbs)
i may be wrong but this all seems to point towards her being a punjaban!

Hmm just because she visits the temple, doesn't necessarily mean she's sikh punjabi.
I go to my Sikh temple every few weeks, but i'm Hindu.
If you go to Siddhi Vinayak in Mumbai (most popular Ganpati temple), I've seen a couple of Muslims.
If you go to Ajmer Dargah, you'll see a LOT of the people there are actually Hindu, Sikh etc. You'll always read articles about Hindu film stars going to get blessings from there or from Haji Ali and same with Muslim stars going to worship at a temple.

So just because she visits the Golden Temple, doesn't mean she's Sikh. In fact I hope that the next time i'm in India, I get a chance to go to Delhi and then from there go to the Golden Temple.😊 and I too can speak a couple of words in pure punjabi and put on a fake accent simply due to heavy influence by family friends and friends in general.

So to conclude..she could be either gujju or punjabi. There are no articles confirming whether she is either. Maybe IF's tellybuzz reporters should ask her.😉

Drashti..the name itself is a sheer gujju name...we have tons of drashtis and dharnis in our midst...never heard of a panju named drashti...and i have been brought up in Delhi...so do know something about punju first names....
About dhami...yup there are punjus with Dham..and DhaMMi...last names...but there are plenty of dhamis in gujju community too...i am one.
Two years back in one of her interviews, while working for DMG..drashti clearly stated that because of her Muskaan Chadha role ppl actaully thought that she was a punjabi...she clearly stated that she is a gujju and not a punju....if i can find the link...i will post it...
Last but not the least ..if u have watched last week's sbs..where she is with her family...her grandma ..nani is actually wearing a gujju sadi with ulta palla...never seen a punju buzurg lady in one....
And if you have checked out her offscreen pix..there are her brother's wedding pix..wherein in one shot...the marriage is taking place in gujju style...the bride...(suhasi of yahan mein ghar ghar kheli is also gujju btw) is also wearing the gujju bride outfit...white panetar with red border...and the sankheda chairs are used in gujju weddings....
And the most important fact....me and drashti have a common friend...u can see her in a lot of pix..and she is also a telly actress....and so i know that drashti is a gujju....phew...hope this helps....
Frankly does not matter at all...i kinda like it if being a non panju she portrays one soo well that it leads to this confusion...it says a lot about unity in diversity right!!!

Finally! A post that is not just pure speculation! If you do find the link, then please do post it. :)
