I don't understand why there has to be a live-in relationship at all either up to the baby's birth or to be continued after that. Maan and Geet love each other very much. Are very sure about each other. Have accepted each other with their hearts and souls, believe they are destined to be together. So why not have a full fledged marriage with the blessings of the society? Is it so important to show that they have to go against social norms? What is so bad about the institution of marriage?
Yes, Geet has been scarred by a bad marriage but then that was not a marriage at all since the guy was already legally married to someone else, the priest was fake and there were no witnesses to it except the culprit's family who were all set to dupe them anyway and the victim's family who washed their hands of the matter. Let's not forget that the society was not involved in this marriage at all. The basic essence of marriage as a social institution was missing in this case. So Geet could not get redressal from the society. But did the society not stand up for her when it came to know the truth? Did not the society stand in support of her when she broke her ties with her family?
This whole painting of the society as being a hindrance to a couple in love is not sitting well with me. After all society is made up of individuals like you and me and not everything relating to the society is bad.
If Dadi comes to know of Geet's pregnancy, could Maan not own up to being the father? After all he will be the one who will be shouldering the responsibility of one. So he would not be really lying in that sense. As nobody yet knows when the baby was conceived, it could eqasily be put down to being around the time of 'Hum tum' sequence when the entire office were witness to the fact that Maaneet spent the night in the conference hall. Even Dev thought his bro was indulging in some hanky panky with his secretary. When the baby finally arrives one can say it was prematurely born (in any case I dont think there was more than a month difference between the actual conception and the HT sequence).
Anyway it would look quite ridiculous for a very pregnant Geet to be taking the pheras. Would it not be better for them to have the real marriage (ofcourse interspersed with flashbacks of the Parineeta Metaphor) before Geet starts showing?
