Part 5

He wanted so desperately wake her up....Her beautiful hair flying in the cool wind, her angelic features glowing in the moonlight and a soft smile playing on her rosy lips....as if pushed by an invisible force, Maan leaned in, closer…closer…It was like the innocent face was calling out to him, those rosy lips waiting to be met by his. Just a millimeter away…even closer, all thoughts flew out of his mind and he concentrated on the angel in his arms… his Geet.

"Tum kisiko khush nahi rak sakte, you are a hopeless man, Maan Singh Khurana, jo kisi ladki ko khush nahi rakh sakta, tumhare saath job hi rehega tum uski zindagi barbaad kar doge!" (You can never keep anyone happy, you are a hopeless man Maan Singh Khurana, a man who can never keep a woman happy, you will turn the life of whoever stays with you into a living hell) he stopped, suddenly held by reality, the words he had tried to forget, the wounds etched in his heart for years now, but still very fresh. What was he just about to do? How could he forget what he had done to Sameera? Frustrated he stared at the quiet night, hoping it would tell him what path to take, could he take another chance, hope once again…No his brain shouted, but his heart protested with equal force, Yes Geet is different, what happened to Sameera wasn't your fault…After years of running away Maan found himself once again at the same junction. Should he move on and hope for a better future or stay back and repent for his crimes?

"Maan Sir?" a weak voice jolted him out of his thoughts. After looking around for its source he realized that he was still carrying, a now, awake Geet in arms. He felt a warm feeling in his heart, seeing the worry in her eyes. "Nahin Maan" his mind warned. Before he could once again get lost in the battle between his heart and mind, a punch on his chest brought him back to the present. Looking down he was surprised to see Geet pelted tiny punches on his chest and giving him an angry glare. Controlling his laughter at the sight, he listened to her complaints…"Kya samajte hai aap, app ko kaha to tha na ke chalte hain, phir bhi aap ne meri baat nahi suni, kya zaroorat thi mere saath ladne thi? Sirf apki vajah se hum is musibat me phase hai, ab mujhe aise kya dekh rahe hain, chaliye ruche huye kyun hai?..." Geet kept grumbling "Kya meri vajah se? wait a minute tumhe apna cave dikhana tha, toh tum chuppi thi, aur thumhare bhai ne hume marne ki koshish ki, and phir tum behosh ho gai, and tumhe uthate uthate meri halat karab ho gayi isliye main rukha tha…bas ya aur kuch bhi kehna hai, sab tumhari galati hai, aur hamesha ki tarah saara blame mujhpe daal rahi ho!" Maan justified in the most serious tone he could muster seeing the surprised look on her face. "Accha toh meri galati hai, ha, toh ab mujhe neeche utaariye aur main aapko is musibat se toh chutkare de deti hoon…" Maan relunctantly put her struggling figure down on the ground.

She hadn't stood a couple of seconds before she crumpled on the ground in pain…"Geet! Tum kabhi nahi suno gi na!" Maan couldn't help scream as he helped her back up. "Accha acha uthar ek dhabha hai vaha ja kar dekhte hai kya ho sakta hai, hum hushiarpur se to bahar hain, par ab yaha se hotel kaisi jayenge wo…" Maan suddenly stopped as he realized that he was standing all alone.

"Haan Geet sabse alag hai" his mind and heart finally agreed as he watched her lean on a thick tree branch and limp towards the dhaaba. Any other girl would have given her arm and leg to get a chance to be carried by him, but Geet. Running his hands through his hair, he ran towards her retreating figure before she got into any trouble, he grinned.

Part 6

"hah mera pet toh bhar gaya" said Geet as she ate the last bits of food in her plate, "khaana bohot acha than na? mujhe to aisa laga ki maine bohot dino se khana nahin khaya…Hoshiarpur ki toh baat hi kuch aur hain, haina sir?" she finally looked up to meet Maan's amused gaze, "accha, haan haan khaana bohot acha hota agar tum mujhe kuch khaane deti toh!😆 Aur Hoshiarpur ki toh baat hi aur hain, maine aaj tak bohot saare shehar dekhe hain, magar yeh aisa shehar hain jahan main jab bhi aata hoon,toh maarte maarte bachta hoon…" He suddenly stopped as Geet's eyes began to water up, maybe he had taken the joke too far, Damn Maan! He cursed himself, he knew she had gotten emotional. "Geet I…", "Toh isme meri kya galati hain? Aapko khaana chahiye tha, mujhe bhook lagi to maine khaana kha liya, aur aap MAAN SING KHURANA, aur khaana mangva lijiye!"😆 She retorted. Maan was silenced for a moment, hadn't she been crying a moment ago? He let out a resigned sigh; he would never understand this girl!

"SIR..SIR…" Geet's voice brought him out of his thoughts, "chale?" "Haan Haan chalo, us dhaba wale ne kaha ke adhe ghante main bus stop se bus nikhlegi, lekin who 20 minutes door hain, Geet tum itna chal paongi?" He could not help asking. Geet was surprised at the concern in his voice, she looked into his eyes and saw something that scared her, NO! NO! yeh Maan sir hain!...she nodded her head.

As the wind hit her face, Geet looked at the fields of what once was her home. They had walked here, actually she had barely limped for five minutes before crumbling to the ground, Maan sir had had to carry her from there on. They had gotten seats in the back of the bus. A horn from a passing tractor brought her to the present. She looked out and could not control her tears. A family, a father, mother and their two children, a girl and a younger boy, were traveling on the tractor. Her mind went back to the memories of her family, her father teaching her how to ride a bike, her mother teaching her how to cook😭 (yes in this FF geet knows how to cook!👍🏼), playing in the fields with Prince (her younger brother, sorry could not remember his name)🤔…As tears flowed down her face, she felt a hand on her shoulder. Turning around her sad eyes were met with a pair of concerned ones…
