Hey Guys,

If we want to turn this into a thread about Hindiuism and its customs/rituals, please let us cite our sources from the scriptures themselves. As interesting and thought-provoking as some of these articles are, they are not the prime sources for what Hinduism is. The basis of Hinduism is in the Vedas, Upanishads, and the puranas such as the Ramayana, Bhagawata, Mahabharata, and other such Puranas. They are the real sources, so unless every one of us is ready to cite direct quotations from these scriptures (and that too if they are available to all of us), only then can we really debate about what is written in Hindu scriptures or not.

I know some people take these articles literally and put a lot of faith in them, but I'm learned from my college experience that many articles cannot be taken as sources for sensitive topics such as religion. The best sources in our case are the Hindu scriptures themselves.
So if any of you know for sure that the 'institution' of marriage is nowhere in the Vedas, then please proove it, and if you want me to proove my claim that it is, I will too. I am indifferent to temple sculptures, as they all were man made (and who knows what kind of people carved them), and the actual vigrahas in the temple mandap are all fully clothed and decent looking.
Thanks,
Janaki

Yeah, that's another aspect of the serial I have trouble grasping. There are no mentions of Geet's pregnancy at all.😕 Either she is being very lax, or the CVs forgot.
Well yes, this serial is not as westernized as others (which are really too much), but like I wrote before, I had no problems with it until the recent club sequence...I personally did not like it. It's just me.

I have to strongly disagree....Geet is not "westernized"....their intamite moments are nothig compared to shows here like Greys Anatomy and Mad Men....Geet is much more innocent and they value their Indian culture....they're just showing the modern India apposed to the typical cookie cutter shows that are on or have been showed....the typical saas bahu fights and unrelistic evil characters and let's not forget the boring predictable ekta kapoor shows....being born and raised in Canada I'm used to seeing much more....It's a nice change to see the innocent love between Manneet....if they where TRUELY trying to be "western" they would KISS....besides why is being "westernized" such a bad thing....i hate how people think that just because were born outside of India we don't know or value our culture and were not "true Indians"....and that couldn't be farther from the truth even though we don't live their our parents did and they instiilled the culture and values in us!!!!

When did I, or anyone here, say people born outside of India don't know their culture?

Wow......ermmm dont know where to start 4rm....I personally respect ur decision but I actually dont agree with the term westernized.........as i am from uk and i watch alot of westernized soaps tooo and geet does not even match their level as geet has its own charm and essence..I feel geet is more of a youth urban show ...by youth I dont mean westernized ....as youth has many different perceptions......for me personally youth means moving foward with modernism not westernism.........infact I luv geet even more since the story base was shifted to delhi..........as many users (with due respect) have commented that it was integral for the story to move further as the usp of this show is geet...this show depicts her struggles and hardship....and how she independantly settles in a new city at her own accord without any moral support.............so I think they had to modernise the serial a bit more............a wouldn't agree with the term westernized............becoz geet is not at all wesernized in fact she is still seen in salwaar kameez clad..........and delhi is a city where modernism is infact being followed by constant itme changes....to be honest I feel within time every city or person does change and move further with modernsim in order to be adjusted to society needs etc.....so they had to modernise the characters in order to fit the delhi base culture and to give the show sum freshness after khoshyarpur.......and don't 4get geet is a youth urban show.....so c.vs would create a script that is mainly aimed at the youth.....and 2 b honest...since the story base shifted to delhi.....the fan base of geet has inflated dramatically which took the show to a new height........making it an officially no.1 show 😊 (sorry about the babbling, I dont even know if this makes any sense just expressing my p.o.v......not intended to hurt anyone) if u dont understand this....jus ignore it😆

Urban India has def gone for a change ...and this show is just reflecting that change and as for the question of intimacy before marriage .....well in urban india where marriage as an institution itself has a diminishing value (courtesy ever increasing divorce rates )...this question of holding it as a point doesnt arrive
Also its the creatives viewpoint they can show what they feel like if its too bold for sum one's sensibilities then dont watch ....simple ...its fiction after all .....i am definitly sure something Indian ,suiting indian tastes and sensibilities is definitely playing on TV ....
As for the show becuming too westernized ...I'd say its nothing in comparison to Indians themselves becuming westernized!!!!Just go and have a look in metro cities ..schools, colleges , Disc 's ....Markets ........and u wudnt have this question here at all

You know it is rather strange to my way of thinking at the least; this Internet we are using, we want their technology, we want things that are invented all over the world, but we crib about their morals as though our moral code is so pristine and prime despite the culture of sati, child marriages, devadasis, and the lot!

So since it is not okay to be westernized about some intimacy or so, let's not become westernized in the doctrine of applying technology or women empowerment too. So let's burn our brides, perform sati, and the lot!

If we did not have so-called westernization, today we would not be here on this technological platform that has advanced due to western minds too...

Double standards and absolute hypocrisy is the rampant problem at the core of such thinking that is based on half baked ideas on value drivers.

The show has come a long way since the beginning even if it has recently started but being 'too westernized' is not one of them. I know its an indian show but it doesn't mean they have to show the cultural things 24/7. In the beginning there were some eye locks and whatnots but the creatives do have to show their creativity to entertain the audience so I don't mind the changed environment so much. matter-of-fact I'm loving the show even more now. The characters have changed and its logical for them to change with the situation. I respect your opinion but in my point of view I do not agree :)
