symbolism of the near-drowning scene...

hey guys!

This just crossed my mind...

It's a kind of longish post..nd pretty far-fetched but hey..everything is open for interpretation,right?

So..We all remember the drowning scene right?

Where Geet is drowning..

I was just reading a poem by Margaret Atwood



It was taken some time ago.
At first it seems to be
a smeared
print: blurred lines and grey flecks
blended with the paper;

then, as you scan
it, you see in the left-hand corner
a thing that is like a branch: part of a tree
(balsam or spruce) emerging
and, to the right, halfway up
what ought to be a gentle
slope, a small frame house.

In the background there is a lake,
and beyond that, some low hills.

(The photograph was taken
the day after I drowned.

I am in the lake, in the center
of the picture, just under the surface.

It is difficult to say where
precisely, or to say
how large or small I am:
the effect of water
on light is a distortion

but if you look long enough,
eventually
you will be able to see me.)


Well, the poem could be read metaphorically as a woman..who is drowning..in the sea of social pressure..social expectations, patriarchal control...

She isn't being heard..she's invisible..no one sees her..

Just like Geet- her opinion doesn't matter..

But she will be heard..the part in the parenthesis shows how he draws attention to herself- she's there...she is speaking..even though no one hears her..she's still there..


HEre comes the interesting part-

MAan most of all has been Geet's philosopher-teacher. He has always told her to stand up for herself etc..
MAan goes to Geet, he saves her. He pulls her up. Allows her to breathe- come out of those expectations..
It's a symbolic way to see how much MAan's saving Geet(not just her life, but the way she lives- her self-respect and her sense of self)

He presents her with opportunity- so that she may be heard..

Pre-emptive of their relationship-not merely romantic but that of support as well..who is her pillar of strength..who makes her strong...


Okay..so basically, that is what I thought when I read the poem and remembered the scene..

What do you guys feel..I know it's far-fetched..but oh well..

It's nice post....I see the effort U had put into it 👍🏼....I am not tht much literature kind of person so frankly speaking I din't get the starting part of the poem before the parenthesis😕.....In school also I used to leave the english poetry part now I C wht a big mistake I made becoz of which I could not understand a small poem....but understood wht was there in the parenthesis & after reading ur analysis I felt it's apt to the situation..... The 1 thing I like about this show,actually not only the show even the promos(eg: Dance promo & Jodha Akbar promo) is tht what ever they show most scenes have some kind of Symbolism hidden in them & not only tht most of the scenes are inter connected which is very good not like the other shows where the creatives some times forget wht they wrote...tht's the reason I LUV GEET🤗....Geet is not like any other show It has some thing special in it,because of which I became total crazy fan of GEET....living in my own GEETLAND all the time & not wanting 2 come out of this 😍😍😍

lovely post geet..... I feel sometimes this whole show gets symbolistic in one way or another.... I mean if we open our eyes a little more, we might even be drawing symbolism to Maaneet's petty fights and their hilarious dialogues..... the cvs of Geet are very cheeky, they prolly have more hidden messages than meets the eye!!!!!

wonderful post....yes the drowning scene was symobolic but then maneet has numerous symbolic scenes and taveez is the imp factor in their relationship and then baba's blessing in darga....

we hv seen innumerous love stories in big and small screens....but geet is somehow different from any i hv seen before...maneet relation has a divine feeling all over....

if we go back to hoshiapur days then we can see that at that period there was no romantic feelings between them....but even then they had a cosmic relationship.....somehow their souls knew that they r not to be seperated....
i remember wen maan took geet to amritsar for land registration, geet returned to hoshairpur widout maan....and wen maan returned to hoshiarpur he was restless and was wondering "y is it that i want to know if geet has reached home safely"....he even went to her house in the pretext of giving her registartion papers and asked her family if geet is there....

then wen he came outside and found geet hiding someone....and geet told him to take gurvinder with him....it was as if geet knew widout a doubt that maan cud be trusted at a time wen geet was most worried about gurvinder's safety....

these 2 incidents hv touched me because in those times they had no relation whatsoever....but i guess the universe works in its own way...
our HIGHER SELF knows the one who is made for us much before our CONSCIUOS SELF acknowledges it.....

it is very difficult to pinpoint the moment wen maan and geet fell in love with each other....yes...in the darga epi geet realised her feelings but that doesnt mean those feelings were born that day....
not realising something doesnt mean that it does not exist.....

i hv written a small poem on this....

I remember you asking me the exact moment

When I fell in love with you.

I couldn't answer and I could see the disappointment

in your eyes.

But, how can I answer, when I myself do not know.

I love you, is that not all?

When the sun seemed brighter than usual,

When everything around me seemed to bring joy,

When I felt that everything I am is for you,

When I felt that I am nothing unless

You say I am special,

I guess that's the moment I fell in love with you.

There's a music in your heart,

Which even you do not know how to give words to it.

But I know, coz I can hear the music more clearly.

You say nothing has changed;

But for me everything has changed.

Life has become worth living and cherished for.
