hey guys!
just a small piece I wrote on honor killings-
Killing...for Honor!!??
Newspapers these days are filled with the words "honor killings"; headlines like "girl, lover, killed by family" have become commonplace. The justification that the 'family' gives for murdering their daughter(usually) or/and son is that they have caused 'dishonor' and brought a bad name to the family.

For what reason?
Oh, for wanting to live their own lives in their own way- for getting married to whom they want, for wearing what they feel like wearing, for taking control of their own lives.

It is one of the most shameful acts that a family can think of committing against it's own children, and yet, it's prevalent, and scarily, widely so.

The media is trying to point these issues out, slowly in the hope of making people aware of the butchering that occurs under that name.

Even telly soaps are bringing this out. In a recent telly soap, I saw the grandfather of an 18 year old girl ordering her brother to kill her, that too,in front of the entire family,as she has brought bad name to the family(she was pregnant, and got to know after her husband abandoned her). The way that girl was running, and her brother and his team after her with swords-to butcher her.

They did manage to hurt her badly, but at the last moment, someone saved her.
But in real life, probably, she would have been killed(head severed from body). The scene shocked me to my bones, and I couldn't sleep for a night.
I found a news article a couple of days ago about brothers who had been ordered by their families to kill their sisters and their husbands who had married out of caste.

This issue requires greater understanding and probing in order to help those poor people who are being murdered everyday for living their lives their own way..

every other day i read about these honour killings in newspapers....i shudder to think of the state of human mind....gone r the days wen one cud feel safety at home....
dont we hv the right to choose our life partner...is caste the only recognition of a person....and wat honour r they speaking of....wen a father kills his own child or a brother kills his own sis/bro....do those acts not bring shame in the family name....

only proper education can bring awareness....we cant hope for a better society unless ppl r properly educated
