Part 27 - Someone else

Once again it was Monday morning, and Geet was excited to begin her first official day as head of the Chopra project. She had been a little nervous about having to interact with Mr. Rahul, but when she talked to Maan about it, he told her not to worry and that it had been taken care of. Geet wasn't sure what he meant by "taken care of". In fact, Geet was a little unsure about Maan himself. She frequently found him starring at her in an unusual way, like he was asking her a question. He did it most often in the morning, after she woke up, and Geet couldn't figure out what it meant. His looks caused a strange feeling in her stomach. She felt nervous speaking to him about it, so she tried to ignored it. Instead, she decided to put all her focus on the Chopra project. However, Pinky was proving to be a distraction.

"Geet, you have to tell me all about the party. Did they have dancing? Did you meet any movie stars? Tell!" Pinky was so excited that Geet thought she would enjoy hearing about the party more than Geet enjoyed being at the party.

"Well, I did meet some actors."

"Really? I can't believe it. Who?"

"Let me think. I met Priyanka Chopra, um.... Katrina Kaif.... Genelia D'Souza...."

"But what about men? Did you meet any male actors like Salman Khan, or Shahrukh?"

"No, but I remember meeting Imran Khan and Ranbir Kapoor. Dadiji also introduced me to Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan."

"No way!!!! I think I might die. Did you meet Abhishek and Aishwarya too?"

"No, we left before they could be introduced to me."

"Geet! How could you pass up an opportunity like that? Abhishek is sooooooo handsome! He's even better looking than DD." Pinky smiled with a dreamy look on her face.

"Uh..." Geet didn't really know how to respond to this statement. She personally didn't find Abhishek Bachchan to be better looking than Maan. "Actually, I don't think there is anyone better looking than Maan. He is extremely handsome, especially when he's angry." Geet smiled slightly as she had no trouble imagining an angry Maan. The way his jaw would clench and he would pull down his lower lip, not to mention his gorgeous eyes, left Geet breathless. Geet would have continued to be lost in thoughts of Maan, if Muskaan hadn't interrupted by calling to her. Geet, coming out of her trance reminded herself that she wasn't going to think about him in that way.

"Yes, Muskaan, what is it?"

"Ma'am, I really need to speak to you and Sir about something."

"Alright, let's go see if he's available."

"But, Geet, you didn't finish telling me about the party," complained Pinky.

"I'll tell you more, later," Geet promised.

Going into their office, Geet inquired of Maan if he had some time. When he said yes, Geet motioned to Muskaan that she should talk.

"Sir, Ma'am, I wanted to talk to you because I've discovered something troubling. I was sure that I had put down the correct time for your meeting with Mr. Chopra last Friday, so I took a look at the calendar again. Sir, if you'd just open it up, please." Maan did as Muskaan requested, and opened his calendar software. Muskaan then asked him to look at Friday's events. Maan pointed out that the meeting was clearly listed as being at 3:00.

"Yes, Sir. However, if you open that event, you'll see that it's been edited. You can see the original entry lists 2:00 and the changed entry shows 3:00. The time stamp is 12:35 Wednesday, edited from my computer. But it wasn't me who edited that, because I was having lunch with my husband that day. I'm sure I was out of the office, because I requested an extra half hour so that I'd have enough time to get back to work. That means that someone else came in to my cabin, during my lunch time, and purposely changed your schedule. Why? I don't know."

Geet could see that Maan was really angry, hearing this information. She was no less so. Someone, either from their office, or elsewhere, had purposely tried to cause problems for Maan. They also could have caused problems for Muskaan, also, since it was a big possibility that Maan could have fired her over the incident.

"Maan, how could somebody do this? And why didn't we see them?"

"Don't you remember, Ma'am. You were having your office renovated. Anyone could have come in while I was gone, and no one would have noticed."

"That's right, Muskaan, I forgot. Well, what do we do now? How do we discover who is responsible?" Geet and Muskaan looked Maan expectantly, wondering what his response would be to Geet's question.

"We probably won't be able to find out who did it, but I have no intention of letting this kind of thing happen again." Maan stood up and started pacing the room as Geet wondered how they would stop it. "We'll have to upgrade the security in the company. Muskaan, take a memo!"

Sasha was a little disappointed that her plan didn't work out like she thought it would. However, the more she thought about it, the more she wasn't surprised. One mistake might not have been enough to create problems between MK and Geet. Even so, Sasha was sure that if she could manufacture enough mistakes, that MK would throw Geet out of the office and his life.

As she contemplated how she could disrupt Geet's work on the Chopra project, Tasha came to give her a memo from MK. What Sasha read had her heart in her throat.

Memo: To All Khurana Constructions Staff

Due to recent events we will be changing our computer security systems, as well as installing security cameras on every floor, starting tomorrow. These changes are the direct result of the actions of some person who tried to damage the work and reputation of this firm. This type of behavior will not be tolerated, and anyone found to be sabotaging the work of any employee will be immediately terminated.

Did MK know what Sasha had done? If he did, then he would have confronted her. But why then these new security measures? He must suspect something. All Sasha's potential plans dissolved under the threat of exposure.
