SRK: All play and no work?

The King Khan is having a field day. Literally. After a long time a shoot has been 'all play' for the actor. We guess SRK took the 'all work and no play makes you a dull boy' phrase too seriously. No wonder we heard of him partying with a gang of eleven gals (only his co-stars) in Australia where they're shooting for Chak De. We're just kidding guys; we can't ever imagine the dynamic SRK being even vaguely dull - on-screen or off-screen. But the fact is that he's been playing a lot of hockey on the field, all for the film of course. That's making up for all the heavy-duty work-outs which have become Shah Rukh's regimen lately. Well, 'work hard, play harder' - that's the new mantra. What say, SRK?

Exclusive: SRK in Chak De India

Reader Lovenish Batra (inset) sent us some exclusive pictures of ShahRukh Khan, on the sets of his new film, Chak De India, in Melbourne, Australia.

The actor plays a hockey coach for a girls' team. A young Sikh girl (played by Vidya Malvade, seen earlier in Vikram Bhatt's Inteha) wants to join the team but does not get her parents' approval. Bend It Like Beckham, anyone?

The film is directed by Shimit Amin (who earlier directed Nana Patekar in Ab Tak Chhappan) and produced by Yash Chopra.

If you encounter/meet/see film or television personalities and photograph them, please scan the photographs and mail the pictures to us. We will feature the best images right here on Rediff Movies.

Swing it like Shah Rukh

The actor stars opposite Vidya Malvade in a hockey remake of Bend it like Beckham

Aditi Jayakar Kane
Mumbai Mirror, 21th August 2006

After being paired opposite top-ranking heroines, Shah Rukh's choice of co-star in Chak De comes as a surprise. Khan has been cast opposite model Vidya Malvade, who previously acted in flop films like Inteha and Mashooka.

For Vidya, this is a huge break – one because she stars opposite Khan and secondly, because the film is under the Yash Raj Films banner.

Chak De is being directed by Shimit Amin. According to reports, Vidya's role has been loosely inspired from Bend It Like Beckham, as she too is a girl with strict Sikh parents and she rebels against the old school to participate in a sport. Only this time instead of football it is the annual hockey tournament and Shah Rukh plays the coach of the girls' hockey team.

However, this is not the first time Vidya is face to face with Shah Rukh before the camera. The ex-airhostess had done a Santro advertisement with the actor earlier.

When contacted a few months ago, Vidya denied signing the Yash Raj film, presumably required to be discreet under contract. But she had said that it was like a dream come true to work with Shah Rukh in the ad. This time too, Vidya was reticent, saying that she was not allowed to divulge information about the movie. "I'm not allowed to talk. I can't say anything," she insists.

However, sources have revealed that there was an intensive two- month hockey training camp, and now the film has gone on the floors with Vidya shooting at Yash Raj every day for the past few weeks.

Vidya Malvade opposite Shahrukh Khan in Chak De

By IndiaFM News Bureau, August 21, 2006 - 03:12 IST

Remember Vidya Malvade, the petite actress, who starred in films like Inteha and Mashooka? Finally, she has got her big break. She is starring opposite none other than ShahRukh Khan himself in the Shimit Amin directed Chak De. The film is being made under the prestigious Yash Raj banner.

Apparently, Vidya's role is that of a Sikh girl with strict parents. She wants to participate in an annual hockey tournament but her parents don't approve of it. It's somewhat similar to Parminder Nagra's role in Bend it like Beckham. SRK plays the coach to the girls hockey team.

Vidya did not want to talk about the role as she is bound by contract. But it seems that she went through an intensive two month hockey training camp. Incidentally, Vidya has worked with SRK earlier in a Santro ad.

SRK's partying with 11 beauties!

The King Khan seems to be in a celebration mood these days. Well, he has reason to, in spite of the new Don being so closely scrutinized and even criticized; the movie has made the BO ring vehemently. So SRK is enjoying like he never has. He's shooting for Chak De in Australia, and after a long, hard day's work - the superstar hits the dance floor. Yes, our sources said that last week SRK went out partying with eleven girls (he's shooting with a team of eleven beauties) and the crew of the film. And they all rocked till the wee hours of the morning. Now once in a while, even King Khan needs to let his hair down, right? It doesn't happen everyday gals, so enjoy it while it lasts!

Shah Rukh Khan is having fun in Australia

20th Nov 2006 09.37 IST

By ApunKaChoice

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is in Australia shooting for Chak De India .

And The King Khan seems to be in a celebration mood these days because in spite of the new Don being so closely scrutinized and even criticized, the movie has made the BO ring vehemently.

So SRK is enjoying like he never has. He's shooting for 'Chak De India' in Australia, and after a long, hard day's work - the superstar hits the dance floor.

Yes, reports are that last week SRK went out partying with eleven girls (he's shooting with a team of eleven beauties) and the crew of the film.

And they all rocked till the wee hours of the morning.

Yashraj Films ' 'Chak De India', which has SRK in the lead role, is directed by Shimit Amin, whose debut feature Ab Tak Chhappan was a big hit at the 2004 Indian Film Festival in Australia.

'Chak De India' is the story of a disgraced player who returns to the game after a seven-year hiatus to become a coach of an ignored Indian women's hockey team. He has a fixed agenda and unfortunately, so do the girls. They arrive in Australia to compete in the women's world cup.

What unfolds is a struggle for self-respect and eventually the country's honour.

Shahrukh Khan parties with 11 beauties in Australia

November 19th
Bollywood Mantra

Shahrukh works extremely hard and now apparently he's even partying hard. Currently on a high with the box-office success of Don, SRK is extremely happy with the response. He's already busy shooting for his next Yash Raj film Chak De in Australia and apart from working hard on the sets, Shahrukh was recently spotted partying the night away at a club down under with not one but 11 beautiful ladies. But hey before all you naughty minds jump to any conclusions, SRK's partying with the cast and crew of his film which includes 11 beautiful girls whom he will be seen coaching in the sport of hockey for his film. Everyone was seen enjoying themselves till the wee hours of the morning, now that's the least that one can expect when Shahrukh's around.

Recently there was a book written on SRK titled 'Still Reading Khan' and now a series of paintings that has been titled 'Still Painting Khan'. The painting series has been done by artist Anjanna Kuthiala who has done many series of paintings on her muse Shahrukh Khan. Her new painting series will again capture the various moods of Shahrukh done in Charcoal. However this time Anjanna has come up with another innovative idea which will have an incomplete painting titled 'The SRK Flowering Tree'. The concept will involve celebrity guests and other SRK fans to paint a flower each on the tree for SRK. Some of the guests who will paint a flower on the tree include chief guest of the event Praful Patel, Kirron Kher, Madhur Bhandarkar and SRK's mom-in-law Savita Chibba. Well this surely says that SRK still rocks.
