Part 5:-

"Sir, The accused i.e. Captain Rajveer Singh Shekhawat oops, I apologize, the ex- Captain Shekhawat… has drifted away a few years ago from the path of a true soldier when he had lost control over his heart."

Her words were artistically being cut out by Naina when she objected. Standing up she said, - "Mr. Shekhawat in all respects is a paragon of selflessness, chivalry, courage and patriotism and he has proved his loyalty countless number of times. The court previously has overlooked all his accomplishments and I would request and hope that it would not be oblivious to this fact any longer. If the judgment is based on the fact that he is an emotional fool and would murder his senior to win thy fair lady's hand then I'd beg to differ. I have mighty confidence that the accused has hardly even lost his temper or should I say has risen his voice in front of his head who ever it might be."

She was rudely being cut off..

"But your honor my good colleague is just trying to convolute a simple case by her so called debates and I sincerely hope that you ignore her shifty approach to the matter. She's just wasting time."

Naina looked at the judge for his say in the matter and was pleased when the judge called out for an objection overruled. With a placid expression and utter ignorance to the hateful overlooks which she had been showered by her 'so called good colleague' she continued, "Thank you your honor and in order to convince my opponent I have proof to support my confidence. I would also like to turn the spotlight on the spot that before being terminated Major Nair had dropped hints of Mr.Shekhawat's innocence. If it be your permission I would like to call upon Major General Chandok to attest my opinion."

Rajveer was shocked to see the same person who had in passionately stripped him from an army captain to a commoner now speaking in favor of him. In his heart blazed a new hope.

Having taken his position, Naina asked him, "Sir, Do you agree with my statement and do what's your personal say in my matter?"
In his reply, he stated, "Rajveer has been a an accomplished pass out of KMA second only to the best – Navin Singh Ahluwalia who had been accused of turning out to be a traitor, but the matter has been in the grey light in the past four years since Rajveer's arrest has pointed of him being innocent and the substantial proof of the red box that he was being poisoned. Anyways sticking on to the topic I do not recall Rajveer of ever being impolite. He has been the most courteous of officers and I also would like to add that in those days, Rajveer has taken up punishments for no fault of his and has yet proved to be the most vigilant of officers when he had stopped the weapons from being smuggled out of the academy while being under solitary confinement."

At this point Captain Salve stood up and walked over to her senior and said, "Sir, I recall that the ex-Captain had been punished for holding an illegal secret meeting without the consent of KMA's Vice Principal and also not divulging the details for which the convention was held. Also I would like to add that at Rajveer's mere order his entire favorite batch of students among whom, five of them have assembled here including my good associate had created chaos just to sanitize a person's ego and teach that person a lesson as to bow down before a raw batch of uncivilized cadets."

"Thereby if Captain Shekhawat is cunning enough to brainwash a batch of uncultured cadets then he must be proficient enough to formulate his evil plans of murdering his much respected senior in cold-blood just to achieve his selfish target. He had endangered KMA's reputation of one of the finest army training institution of the country."

"I object your honor", broke in Naina. "My patron had in fact in a cumulative effect, all noble intentions. He has always prioritized and kept the welfare and reputation of the academy as the most important in his life. But I would once again like to stress upon the fact that the occupation of Major Nair as the Principal had the negative impact on the repute. In this case I would like to call upon Mr.Gehlot, the mentor of the accused and have his say in the matter."

If Naina and all the cadets had caught Raj's expression at that time they would have been stupefied. His eyes were ferociously aghast with a strange deathly fire. He was stumped at the reason of Naina wanting this person to speak in the court. He would obviously speak against him. Had she gone insane?

Naina felt a chilly tremor when she finished. She was aware of the piercing- bone-creeping gawk. She had to do this. She had decided upon using the enemies themselves as a witness Raj's of innocence. Alekh had also agreed to her this strategy. She hoped that he was fine and had escaped.

Gehlot and Salve were shocked. This was the last thing they had expected. Unenthusiastically he came up onto the platform. His main plan was to stay behind the curtains and mastermind the entire operation. But he didn't like the mannerism in which Captain Ahluwalia was dealing with the case. It had started to unnerve him. He decided to use the situation to his maximum capability. But unfortunately for him, Naina wasn't going to let him talk. He was going to be in for a tough interrogation.

Curtly, she started, "For how long have you known Mr. Shekhawat?

"Since quite some time."

"The court doesn't require vague answers, Sir. I want to know the exact crisp date."
Her cold, chilly tone had not gone unnoticed.

"From the time he had joined KMA."

"It is quite popularly believed that you are quite picky about your choices. Then how come you'd struck a very deep rapport with Mr. Shekhawat in such a short span of time. You're trust in him is to be believed has no bounds."

"Yes. He's one of the most sincere soldiers that I have ever seen. He has never disrespected anyone and was one of the best soldiers the country could ever have. I am proud to have been his mentor."

"Was? Do you think he murdered Colonel Shakti or was there a spam to frame him and Colonel Shakti had died due to a scuffle?"

"Evidences point out to the latter."

"What if the evidences are false? What if there was a genuine reason for the then incident to take place?

"I don't know. But The evidences force me to believe that my protge is guilty."

"Is your choice so abstract and random that you'd just choose any cadet as your protge?"

Part 6:-

"What do you mean?"

"We have heard great fables regarding your preference. You are close only to those people whom you are confident about and are true to their roots and are not traitors. Then how come you were cheated by Rajveer in this particular case. Is your sense of mapping and judging people fading away?"

"NO! I have retained all my strengths."

Naina now knew that he would vote in favor of Raj on the pretext that he doesn't lose out on the occupation of the highest seat of the country. He wouldn't be given the seat if his qualities would be under scrutinization. God! How selfish people can be. She also knew that she was treading on threatened, forbidden grounds. He would give in now but later he would strengthen his attacks. She was playing with fire and there was no gain without pain.

Naina raised her right eyebrow in anticipation. Sensing her admonishing yet victorious vibes he grudgingly continued, "I am now of the opinion that my protge was framed. Major Nair's involvement also hints the same. I would apologize for my earlier inactiveness."

"Thank you. Sir. If Captain Salve has anything to say in the matter, then she can proceed."

"No your honor. Nothing at all." She was frustrated. The person whom she was working for, himself had succumbed to the opponent's strategy. She had to proceed with care now thinking twice before each step. She wasn't going to let go Raj so easily. But looked like luck wasn't in her favor.

"Sir, I have a couple of proofs and witnesses denoting my patron's innocence."

At this mere remark there was stunned rejoinder. Chitterlings broke out. Raj almost fell of his seat. Witnesses!!! Substantiation! How as this possible. He looked at Naina there was an eerie glitter in those attractive eyes. Then he looked at the Cadets. They were also stunned. As per their knowledge, Naina was just going to work upon Major General Chandok and Gehlot. But this new development had thrown them off-guard.

She opened her bag and removed a well wrapped package. In it were a file and a mobile. She played with the buttons and then there was a strong hazy voice, "Captain Rajveer- Murder- Mission accomplished. Kanta raaste se nikal gaya hai"

After letting the development to sink in she continued, "This was heard when Pooja's call had got a cross-connection. This message due to default settings had been saved in the voice mail inbox which we earlier had been unaware of. I know this isn't much of an evidence but it does forces us to think and I have the Call diverts authorities files to prove that this just isn't any forged proof"

Rajveer was confused, angry, relieved everything at the same time. His thoughts were running furiously. Naina looked at him and could almost sense the wheels churning.

Also I would call upon the witness. At that point Alekh came onto the entrance with a man whose head was covered by a black veil. As soon as Naina saw Alekh in the disheveled battered condition, her eyes began to water, the only brotherly figure in her life had been injured. Looked like the person hadn't given out without a fight. But she knew that Raj, the reason for her existence, had undergone the worst of times and she had to be strong for both of them. Alekh caught Naina's gaze and nodded in assuring manner.

The veiled person was brought up to the podium and then his veil was removed. He was a stout, burly person with glaring eyes. His look gave Naina the creeps.

Alekh introduced himself and then told the person to speak. The person said that he had placed the bomb in the Cadets bus during that time and had dexterously removed it after Colonel Shakti's murder in the scuffle. He confessed that to be the reason behind Raj's weakness and the successful framing.
Captain Salve broke in saying that all this was just a fake attempt but her effort was thwarted when the person showed evidences that were pictures of the deal with Major Nair and their taped conversation. Soon after he finished, he was taken away.

After a couple of minutes of rethinking and pondering over the case, the judge issued the final verdict. "Due to the new evidences and opinions and the prominent witness, The case has taken a turning point. The Court now frees the accused of all charges and apologizes for the unpardonable offence it had caused. Mr. Shekhawat's rank in the army and his medals and credentials will now be reinstated and to compensate and reward him for his bravery he will now be promoted to a higher rank as that of the Major. He is now free to go with all dignity and self-respect restored. The court is adjourned."

Everything had happened so rapidly that Raj thought that he was on a rollercoaster. His cadet and Alekh had single-handedly one the case. He practically hadn't dropped in a word and yet there he was all free of charges. His career had not demolished. He could now die for his motherland like a shaheed if required and not rot in the prison. A Major!! That was what he was now. The ceremony would be going to be held later in the afternoon. Everyone soon dispersed except his favorite batch of 6. He wanted to thank Naina but she had disappeared. Disappointment and remorse clouded his senses. Where had she gone? She was doing a lot of vanishing acts these days. He hugged all his former students and when Alekh's chance came he couldn't even express his feelings. His eyes were all moist with the reunion. They were slowly walking down the alley outside when they heard an angry voice soaring from a room. Attracted by the noise they followed it and were stunned to see Captain Salve and Naina talking. Captain Salve looked treacherous and furious whereas Naina was all poised.

"What do you think of yourself, Captain Naina Singh Ahluwalia eh? Oh! Yeah, I forgot you were defending your Aashiq. Must say aag donon taraf se barabar ki lagi hai. Don't look so joyous. You haven't proved your brother innocent yet and yeah your Aashiq and you aren't going to live long enough for that day to come."

"You know what Captain; your outburst just symbolizes your faulty self-control. And yeah what you think about soon to be Major and me is from your perspective. I have absolutely no comments regarding this issue but I would like to let you in a secret."

"Secret?"

"Yup. Haven't you ever wondered the reason you haven't been promoted to a higher rank despite your accomplishments which I know are false. Well the person responsible for that is standing right in front of you. The heads had often got together to decide upon the matter of your appraisal but a certain anonymous call made intermittently would refrain them from taking any action."

" You b*****!!!"
"Ahan. Mind your language Captain. Turning hostile isn't going to help at all. I learnt these from you remember!! And the reason for my honoree action was to fight you eye to eye. Equal ranks you see. The game becomes more fair and justified from the cheap one you had played earlier. You seriously have inherited your uncle's genes. Major Bhargav also had a dirty one-track mind like yours!!

"Well now. I better leave. But remember we are no longer Cadets but have grown into someone more powerful!"

This conversation was the most unexpected of all. Raj couldn't digest the news that Naina was a Captain, she had so remarkably planned all her moves and most of all Captain Salve was Major Bhargav's niece. He couldn't help but admire but Naina's strong will, perseverance and determination. His love for her grew in volumes. She had learnt to maintain a calm composure in the gravest situations. Her sight was enough to make his heart go Left Right Left.
