PART 17:

The next day Kripa resumed her routine with Prateek's physical therapy sessions and took care of his other needs. She wore a maroon chiffon saree that evening (like and settled down to read a book to Prateek. Her heart started pounding as she heard the doorbell ring-the events of last night were still fresh in her memory. She decided she would act normally, as if nothing had happened, at least for Prateek's sake.

It was Angad at the door. He had come straight from a hospital meeting so was still in his suit. He had his bag in one hand and a bunch of flowers in the other.

"Yeh tumhare liye….." he smiled and gave her the flowers

"Rajnigandha?…..mere favorite flowers…..tumhein abhi tak yaad hai…" she smiled as she smelled their fragrance.

"Nahin…..yeh tho raaste par padhe the….iss liye utha laaya" he joked and they both started laughing. Angad wanted to lighten up the air after last night's tense moments….

Angad removed his coat and loosened his tie as he walked into Prateek's room, where he saw him sitting at the edge of the bed, as if trying to stand on his own. Kripa went to the kitchen to get a vase for the flowers.

"Good job…Prateek….chalo ab aap mere paas apne aap walk karr ke aao….." Angad stood at the door trying to encourage Prateek to take steps on his own.

"Nahin….main gir jaaoonga…." Prateek was scared

"Aap mere paas chal karr aaogey, tho main aapko surprise doonga…"

A surprise is always a big incentive for a kid….Prateek stood up and took 3-4 steps on his own.

"Shabash…Prateek….." Angad went forward and lifted Prateek in his arms, gave him a tight hug and showered him with kisses. Prateek looked up and had the biggest smile on his face….he kissed Angad back on his cheeks, "itni achchi kissey tho mama ya Nishu papa ney bhi kabhi nahin di……doctor uncle aap mujhe roz roz aisi surprise kissey dogey? he asked innocently.

Angad had tears in his eyes and softly said, "zaroor….roz roz doonga …." and hugged him again.

Kripa came back and found the father and son in a tight embrace; she smiled and went back to the kitchen as she did not want that tender moment to end because of her presence. She was lost in her thoughts when she heard, "Mama…bhookh lagi hai….." Angad was still carrying Prateek in his arms as they came into the kitchen.

"Aur mujhe bhi…." Angad joined in and gave a high-five to Prateek.

Kripa thought, "dono baap-bete ek jaise hain……" and smiled again.

Prateek was tucked into bed soon after they all had dinner. Angad picked his coat and bag and decided to leave.
"Main….chalta hoon…." Suddenly the discomfort from the night before was again lingering in the air.

Kripa hesitated but finally had the courage and said, "thodi der aur baitho please….mujhe tumsey kuch baat karni hai….."Angad stood facing the door for a little while, then turned around and came into the living room.

Angad sat down on the sofa and rested his elbows on his knees. Kripa sat down on the floor at his feet and gradually took his left hand in both her hands. She kissed his hand and said softly, "Angad….I am sorry about last night…..main tumhey aur mushkil mein nahin daalna chahti……main jaanti hoon ki aaj tak main sirf tumhari rahi hoon…par ab tum kissi aur ke ho……"

Angad kept quiet and just looked at her.

She continued to caress his hand, "Angad main tumhein Nishant ke baare mein bhi bataana chahti hoon…..Mumbai chhodne ke kuch din baad hi mujhe apni pregnancy ke baare mein pataa chala…..mere parents bahut naaraz huye mujhsey….main final year mein thi tab…..Prateek ke hone ke baad maine pediatrics mein residency bhi shuroo karr di…..Harshini ki bua wahin hostel ke paas rehti thi…..wo Prateek ko din mein aur kabhi kabhi raat ko bhi rakhney lagi thi….Nishant unhi ka beta tha…..wo aur Prateek bahut nazdeek ho gaye the….meri night duties bahut hothi thi…..balki pehle 2-3 saal tho wo Nishant ke paas hi zyaada raha…..Nishant bahut achche insaan the…..unhoney mere parents se bhi meri sulah karwa di…..bas wo Prateek ko apna beta banana chahtey the…..iss liye humney 3 saal pehle court marriage karr lee thi…..Prateek, Prateek Sharma se Prateek Saxena ban gaya….parr mein sirf Kripa Sharma hi reh gayi…..Nishant mujhe bahut chahtey the…..parr Angad, tumhari hone ke baad….main kissi ki nahin ho paayi……"

Her voice was beginning to crack, "parr lagta hai, hum dono kaa saath shaayad kismat ko hi pasand nahin…tabhi 6 saal pehle bhi……"she had tears in her eyes now.

Angad slid down from the sofa and sat next to her and lifted her chin with his finger, "6 saal pehle aisa kya hua tha…Kripa….kya majboori thi…..mujhey itna jaan ney ka tho haq hai…..please…..mujhey batao…."he looked into her eyes for answers.

Kripa could not hold herself anymore and told Angad everything that had transpired between her and Dilip Bose. Angad was stunned- the person who he respected like his father…..could do something like this?…..all this time he thought he was accepted to the Neurosurgery program for his merit…but it was actually a payoff to marry his ill daughter…….Angad knew Kripa was telling the truth…there was no reason for her to make up that story…..everything was falling into place now…..HOW HE HATED DR DILIP BOSE !!!!

Angad stared blankly and said, "Jaanti ho Kripa…..unhoney na hamaare saath na- insaafi ki hai…unhoney apni bimaar beti ke saath bhi galat kaam kiya hai….uski ek aise insaan ke saath shaadi karr di jo usse hamdardi tho de saktha hai…parr ek pati jaisa pyaar nahin…."

"Bimaar?…..yeh kya keh rahe ho tum Angad?…" Kripa was puzzled.

Angad buried his head in Kripa's lap and told her everything about Mishti…..her delusions…her imagination….her fears….paranoia about Kripa…..she was just like a child at times in an adult body…..she was not his wife…..he was just her caretaker…… "kahi baar mujhe Mishti parr taras bhi aata hai….schizophrenia ney usse reality se bilkul door karr diya hai…..parr ab mujhe lagta hai uske parents ney uske delusions aur imagination ko sach karney ke liye…kitni zindagiyon ke saath khilwaad kiya…."

Kripa could not control her tears….this was the first time she felt guilty about her decision ….. did she really help him by sacrificing their love???….she thought she had left Mumbai for his happiness but…..was he really happy…?? May be, at times one needs to be selfish in love…..and not always sacrifice….

"Parr Kripa…tumney aisa kaise samajh liya ki mere sapney sirf mere hain…..tumhare bina mera harr sapna adhoora hai………"Angad looked at her.

"Angad…..tum socho…yadi main nahin jaati aur tumhey apni manzil nahin mil paati…tho main apney aap ko kabhi maaf nahin karr paati…." She sobbed

"Shayad kissi ke jaane ke baad hi uski kadar hoti hai…..ab mujhsey koyi poochey tho main tumhein paane ke liye sab kuch chhodney ko tayyar hoon…." Angad got up and touched her face with his; their faces were so close that they could taste each other's tears….Kripa touched his cheek and kissed him on his lips…..was her surrender tonight a way to redeem her from her guilt?….or was it a realization that he was as lonely as she was in this world….and by offering herself to him she could ease some of their mutual pain….

As kripa took the initiative and they both surrendered to their passions on the living room floor, please make sure you listen to this song from "aastha" sung by Sriradha Banerjee, which in my opinion is the most erotic song sung in a hindi movie….it convey's Kripa's feelings (her guilt…her desires…she knows that what she is doing is a 'gunah' but that is the only way she can also get 'panah')
