The Strange Path

RECAP: "Let's go", Aarzo said, turning around, to Ali who was still sitting on the swing. And after telling him so she started walking towards the door, to go in. Ali nodded and followed her, inside.

Chapter: 11

Darkness fell in each and every corner of his room. The only source of light, entering inside the room through the uncovered window, was the moonlight. However, the few rays from the moon were not enough to brighten the room; the darkness was still able to take over the room, still able to rule over it. He was looking at the sky. The moon stood alone tonight, in the lonely sky, with no stars at all. This room was the most peaceful place to him at this moment. Whenever he wanted to be alone, he would do this; sit in his room, just by himself, in the moonlight with no other source of light coming. To him, it was very calming and soothing, where he can just relax himself, away from all the stresses of life. He glance at the little alarm clock, beside him. It was just 9 o'clock in the evening. 'Only 30 minutes left and then…..', he thought to himself. He closed his eyes now, to feel the moonlight with the chilling breeze on his face. It was one of the summer nights where in the day time you can't stand under the enormous sun sending all its heat and at night, one doesn't want to ignore the cool, gentle wind. He was in for a quick nap that the sound of someone's foot steps disrupted it all. Still, he was adamant to have that sleep and therefore pretended as if he is asleep. "Here you are", the person said out loud, entering the room, turning on all the lights, as he saw Zohaib sitting infront of the opened window. 'It's enough! Can't I get a good 30 minutes sleep now?', Zohaib thought to himself as he decided to quit the sleeping act at the very moment. "Did you have to do it Ali?", Zohaib said in a very tiring voice from which anyone could have understood that he is in real need of some rest. Ali stood infront of him, dumbfounded as an expression of 'Uh-Oh' formed on his face. No matter how nice and kind hearted Zohaib is, but he can never leave the person who disturbs his sleep. Sleeping is one things Zohaib can never sacrifice. One of the very dear habits to him. It's not as if he is always found having a good sleep, but he just wants a full 8-9 hours of sleep, without any disturbance. Ali was about to say something that Zohaib stopped him, saying "If it's an apology, then save it for some other time as I know you will do it again." Zohaib knew it clearly as Ali has done it quite a few times now when they were in London. Early morning, Ali would always enter his room either humming or would shout his name out aloud and it was just enough for Zohaib to wake up. Then both of them would go together to the university with Zohaib making faces and Ali laughing on him, in his heart. Ali would ever hardly apologize if he accidentally, woke Zohaib up from his deep sleep. "Who said I am feeling sorry?", saying this Ali ran out of the room, with a childish smirk on his face.

'Why is it so dark? Maybe no one is in the room', she told herself as she entered her room. The same question was still haunting her, somewhere in the back of her head. 'What was Afia trying to tell me?' She was walking very slowly, trying to watch her foot steps, if she could in the dark as she didn't want to have a fall. Aarzo was about to turn on the lights with the help of the little beam of light, coming from outside. However, somebody closed the door of her room so loudly, making her loose the track of the switch board she founded after trying so hard. "Who is it?", Aarzo asked, shouting a little. Her voice echoed in the empty room. The person at the door ran to her, putting a hand on her mouth, making her stop shouting any further, turning on the lights. "It's you!!!", Aarzo shouted louder than before, removing the person's hand off her mouth. "Who did you think it would be?", Ali said entering the room winking at Aarzo, giving Afia a high five who was standing with Aarzo. Both Afia and Ali shared a little laugh on the way Aarzo shouted. "You both are the same. Jerks!!", saying this Aarzo walked away and sat on her bed, burying her face in the pillow.

"Aaru, I am so sorry. I didn't mean to do it. It was all him", Afia sat on the bed beside Aarzo, blaming it all on her brother; Ali. "Afi, you liar! It was not ME. Actually it was neither of us.", Ali said, defending himself, sitting down on the bed, beside Aarzo. "Aaru…we never meant to do it. In fact, I brought Afia here so that this silly girl can tell us what she wanted to at that time.", Ali said, worried that Aarzo might not talk to him too and avoid him. 'Just like she is doing with Zohaib', he said to himself. Afia gave him an angry glare for calling her 'silly' and her face formed an expression saying, 'I will get back at you. Just wait and watch'. In return, Ali gave her a reply with a look saying, 'Yeah Right!'Both Afia and Ali always used to fight like this. Ali would make fun of her and Afia would complain to her dad, like a little child whining after her candy has been taken away by somebody. However, Ali will come to her room after a while, apologizing. He would even hold his ears sometimes when Afia gets stubborn and doesn't agree to forgive him. In the end, both brother and sister will land up in a pillow fight, where Ali will always let Afia win. No matter how much Afia and Ali fight, they still shared a great bond of friendship.

"Aaru? Are you sleeping? It's just 9:15!", Afia asked, confused if Aarzo was just angry with them or it was something else as Aarzo still had her head hidden in the pillow. Ali whispered something in Afia's ear and Afia showed him thumbs up, as a sign of agreement. In no time, both of them started to tickle Aarzo really hard. Now Aarzo couldn't control herself anymore and started to laugh her head off hysterically, but Afia and Ali never stopped tickling her. "Stop.", Aarzo said in between, showing them her hand to stop but it all went in vain. "First say it and we will let you go.", Afia demanded. "Okay. Okay. I FORGIVE YOU", she said and Afia stopped to tickle. "Ali bhai........leave her", Afia said as she saw Ali never stopped to tickle Aarzo. "But… I want her to forgive me too.", he replied cutely like a four year old. "She did forgave us.", said a puzzled Afia. "No I want her to forgive me, separately", he replied, demanding like a kid. "hhaha……… oh my God…….Aliiii…….hahha…….ok. I forgave you too……now leave me…..hahha", Aarzo said between her uncontrollable laughter. Ali left her after hearing that she gave them forgiveness, sitting like a good kid now as if he has never done anything.

"Afia, what was that you wanted to tell me?", Aarzo asked as she gained her breath. "Oh! Yeah. I wanted to tell you that the reason why Bade pa is behaving all typically is that he knew the truth about Minhal Uncle from before. That is why he was not very shocked to know it.", she said leaving both Ali and Aarzo amused. "How?", both of them asked at the same time, curiously. Before Afia could tell anymore about it, someone knocked at the door, alerting them. It was Zohaib. "ummm.....Ali, Afia ….papa has called all of us in the hall. Adeel Uncle wants to discuss something. Tell her that too. She is the most important person, ofcourse.", he said with a slight of sarcasm in his voice, pointing to Aarzo and left the room. "Let's go. I will tell you about Bade pa later.", Afia said, standing up to leave the room. "We will have to wait.", Aarzo said to Ali as she also got up to go with Afia. "Yup will have to wait.......AGAIN.", Ali added, frowning a bit, following Afia and Aarzo.

Silence...........was the only thing present in the hall at this moment. Everyone waited for Adeel Uncle to start, as he gathered all the legal papers, placing them in order. "Should I start?", Adeel Uncle asked for an approval. Everybody nodded their heads in agreement. "If you have any questions, then save it for the end. I don't want any interruptions in between.", Adeel Uncle instructed in a strong voice, performing his duties just as a Lawyer and nothing else to the family sitting with him. "Okay! I will read out Mr. Minhal's Will as it is written there" Adeel Uncle said and started reading the stamped document, in his hands:

"I, Mr. Minhal Shah, am naming all my properties under my daughter, Ms. Aarzo Mihal Shah. However, before transferring it to her name, I want to tell that I want Ms. Aarzo Minhal to donate as much as she wants to the places I have informed Mr. Adeel Hasan about. I would prefer Ms. Minhal to atleast give 30% of all my properties and the money I have earned until now, in different charities, NGOs and some legal organizations named below. The details will be given by Mr. Adeel Hasan. Last but not least, I want Ms. Aarzo to read the letter I have written. It contains all the details about the other share holders of my properties. However, the final decision will be Ms. Aarzo's in every matter concerning the property. So, Ms. Aarzo that letter is a must read for you. This is all I want to mention in my Will. Regards, Mr. Minhal Shah, Aarzo's father.", Adeel Uncle finished reading the Will, leaving everyone in tears as they all were reminded of Mr. Minhal Shah again.

Aarzo had a little smile on her face as to how her dad had addressed her as 'Ms. Aarzo'. He used to call her the same way, whenever he wanted to discuss a case with her. He would say "So Ms. Aarzo what do you think?", every time, after he finished reading the case to her. This Will represented her father perfectly, just the way he used to talk. Short but with thousands of meaningful messages hidden in it.

"So, Aarzo, kiddo here is the letter given by Minhal", Adeel Uncle said handing the letter to Aarzo, sitting beside him on the sofa. Aarzo wiped the tear flowing down her face, giving an assuring smile to him, telling that she is all right. "Adeel Uncle? Can I ask you something?", Aarzo asked, her voice was still shaking. It was very amazing to see Aarzo fighting back with her pain, trying her level best to control herself from breaking down. "Yeah kiddo, go on. Ask anything you want.", he replied patting her head. "Do I have to handle all this property? Can't you just donate it all and distribute it between Bade pa, chacha and other people. I don't want to involve myself into any of this.", Aarzo said as if all the money valued nothing to her. "But why kiddo? You are the owner of it all now! I am just your legal adviser from today. It's you who take the decision. You have to handle the responsibilities now.", Adeel Uncle replied, trying to make her understand the situation. "But I don't want anything from this property Adeel Uncle. I had told him a thousand times that I want to earn everything on my own. The only thing I want from the Will is this house. It has all my memories from childhood and Papa's memories from the day I have known him. I will earn everything on my own even the money for my education.", she clarified herself becoming upset on the fact that her dad didn't understood what she wanted even after knowing it. Her confrontation has left everyone amused, even Bade pa. It was today that they were realizing how much ambitious and determined Aarzo really is. Afia felt proud of herself to have a cousin and friend like Aarzo. "First of all kiddo, sign these Will papers and I will try to solve your problem. I promise.", Adeel Uncle said, holding out his hand for the promise. Aarzo shook her hands with him, convinced of what he said. "Deal", she replied and signed the papers.

Aarzo stood at her window, with the letter she hasn't read yet, still in her hands. She clutched the letter close to her as if it was a treasure. It was just priceless to her as this might be the last and the most recent peace of writing by her Dad. She stood alone in her room, not knowing where everyone else is. It is so strange that sometimes you want to have some loneliness for yourself, but at other times the same loneliness eats you up until you decide get rid of it. The surroundings around her were all so peaceful, with the cold breeze brushing her face, taking away all her stresses and tensions with it and setting her mind to a state of serenity. She remembered how Adeel Uncle and Bade pa made her understand the responsibilities her dad has given her. Those words were still ringing in her mind. "You have to accept this and prove your dad right that he has chosen the right owner.", Adeel Uncle said, encouraging her. "Aarzo, my sweet bacha, you have to accept this. There might be some important reason that your father has given this all in your hands. It means he believes in you that you can handle it all. Don't break his trust.", Bade pa explained to her with so much affection and adoration. Aarzo, at last, accepted the Will from her heart, as a responsibility given by her father. She promised to herself that she will try to do full justice with it.

Aarzo was staring at the sky, trying to search something unusual; if she could find her dad somewhere, smiling at her. But it was of no use. "Aaruuu", she heard someone calling her. Before she could look for who it was, the voice faded away. Thinking it as her imagination she continued to stare at the purple shaded sky slowly turning black. "Aarzo", the voice came back, loud enough for her to hear it clearly. She turned to look back but no one was there. Unknowingly, her gaze fell outside her window, and she found Ali, standing on the wet, green grass of her lawn. He started waving a hand at her, telling that he was the one calling her. "Come down!", he shouted loudly so that she can hear him. "NO.", Aarzo simply refused. "Please Aaru.", Ali requested, ignoring the stern expression on her face. "YOU COME IN OR ELSE I WILL COMPLAIN TO BADE PA THAT YOU ARE IRRITATING ME.", Aarzo shouted back and closed the window on his face. The look on Ali's face was filled with different emotions of fear, disappointment and panic. He made a puppy face and then ran inside before Aarzo complains about him to Bade pa. One of the people Ali is really scared of is Bade pa. No matter how friendly Bade pa can be, but when he is angry, one can't imagine that it's the same jovial person.

"OR ELSE I WILL COMPLAIN TO BADE PA THAT YOU ARE IRRITATING ME". These were the only words repeating on in his mind at this moment. 'Don't worry Ali you will reach there before Aaru goes to Bade pa', he told himself. However, he was shocked to see the person standing on the door way. It was Aarzo. "You....you.........you didn't go to Bade pa..................or……is he coming to scold me?", Ali asked, blabbering it out in fear. Even though Ali was two years older than Aarzo, some of his acts makes one feel that he is the youngest of all the cousins. "Hahha.........hahha.........hahahah", Aarzo laughed out on the way Ali asked her about Bade pa. "Aliiiii, you are such a dofus! You thought that I was really going to tell Bade pa? Dumbo!", she said after controlling her laughter. "I AM NOT A DUMBO OR A DOFUS EITHER.", Ali whined back like a kid. "Okay Mr. Not A Dumbo And Doofus. But you are a scary cat for sure", she teased him, as she started laughing once again. "Who said I was scared of Bade pa?", Ali blurted out, dumbly. "See, you said yourself now. I can't help it but to tell everyone that you were scared of Bade pa again. It will be sooooo funnnnnn", saying this Aarzo ran from there. "NO. Aaru NO.", he pleaded, running after her. But Aarzo was fast enough to reach Shiza before him. All thanks to the jogging she used to go for everyday. "Shiz! You want to hear something funny?", Aarzo asked to a confused Shiza standing beside her. Aarzo gave a glance to Ali, who just came now panting, trying to catch his breathe. Aarzo had made him follow her almost around the whole house, in every room, except for Bade pa's as he was busy discussing something with Adeel Uncle and Badi chachi. Aarzo sure was a fast runner. "No, Shiz don't listen to her.", Ali quickly said, before Aarzo could say anything else. "Keep Quite!", Aarzo said to Ali like a teacher scolding a student. "I won't", he replied stubbornly. "You would have to. Or else…….", she replied back in the same tone, warning him that she would tell Bade pa everything. "Or else?", Ali asked, knowing exactly what she is talking about. "Or else...........", Aarzo repeated, glaring at him angrily, in a warning tone. "Or else?", Ali asked the same thing again, acting as if he doesn't even know what she is talking about, teasing her more and more. Ali winked at her and in moments both of them were playing along their old trick as they continued repeating 'Or Else' after each other. "You both have gone mad!", Shiza said finally, walking away, frustrated of their "or else, or else" game. "You both have gone mad", Ali imitated Shiza's words. Ali and Aarzo started laughing and gave each other a high five, on the success of annoying Shiza. It has become a habit of both Ali and Aarzo. First they will start their own argument, retorting back at each other like enemies and in the end; they will land up irritating another person who doesn't even know what the two are fighting about. Then, both of them will giggle and laugh on that person and theirselves, forgetting that they even have an argument moments ago. Just the way they did now.

The two of them were still chuckling on their deed. However, a familiar pair of eyes was watching them continuously, from the past couple of minutes, noticing all the things keenly. He was standing at a distance, invisible to Ali and Aarzo. It was Zohaib. This time, different feelings formed in him. He felt left out. The anger was clearly visible in his eyes. The only thought capturing his mind at this moment was the way both Aarzo and Ali misbehaved with his sister. Atleast he thinks it was a mischief. Wasn't it?

'What does she wants? 'Why is she doing this to ME? MY sister? MY father? MY family?', he asked himself, outraged of the behaviour Aarzo is keeping with him. To what he understood, she was doing it all on purpose; irritating his sister, eager to tell his Dad about Minhal chacha, and lastly ignoring him. "She is doing it all deliberately, just to get back at me. But I did say sorry to her. What else does she wants?", he spoke out his thoughts, but he was lucky that no one was around at that moment.

Phew! Chapter 11 finished! Now my questions for the upcoming part: Firstly, How did Bade pa already knew about Mr. Minhal's death? What has Aarzo's dad left for her, written in that letter? Is it the time for some secrets to get revealed? What is happening with Zohaib? Where did all this negativity came in his mind? So unlike what he is! Keep reading to find out the answer to all these questions. It is the longest part of this fanfic until now. If anyone of you is confused, feel free to ask your questions. And please remember to COMMENTTT!!!!!! Suggestions and Criticisms are always welcome. 😳
