The Strange Path
RECAP: "She is doing it all deliberately, just to get back at me. But I did say sorry to her. What else does she wants?", he spoke out his thoughts, but he was lucky that no one was around at that moment.
Chapter: 12
The night was getting colder than before with the freezing gust of wind entering his room from the opened windows. He laid in his bed lost, thinking something deeply but he would flicker away every time the cold breeze touches him. He kept all the lights closed, thinking that maybe he will get some sleep. However, he knew somewhere in his heart that he wouldn't be able to get any sleep today as all those thoughts continued haunting him. And he kept thinking about it.
"Am I doing the right thing? Am I thinking the right thing? Am I just ignoring all the facts and thinking what I want to? Am I just judging her on what I have seen or on what I want to see? Am I just making baseless opinions about her?" All of these questions occupied his mind. He was getting lost into the world of confusions. Still he tried hard to fight back and do what is right.
"No. It's not me! It's not Zohaib Ifteqar Shah. The Zohaib which everyone know of. It's not the Zohaib I am. What was I thinking? I was being such an idiot! I knew what Aarzo's condition is and still I am behaving as if she is at fault.", Zohaib confronted himself, realizing what was he doing.
"I know what I have to do now. I am going to correct all my mistakes. I hope she forgives me.", he said, getting up from the bed and heading towards her room.
"So how much all the properties is worth, altogether with the money Papa has given in his Will?", asked Aarzo with an interest, surprising everyone sitting in the room. "Well, kiddo! I have no idea about the properties……..haven't visit it yet……but the money he has left, in the bank account is around 15,00,00 Rupees.", Adeel Uncle replied, stuffing all the papers in his deep black, leather briefcase. "It's good that you are starting to take interest in it. The property really needs a caretaker to look after it. What about the letter? Do you want to read it now?", he asked, getting up from his chair. "No, Adeel Uncle. Not today. I know you are in a hurry too and everyone is already tired after this long day.", Aarzo replied as she took a look on the nearby clock. It was 11:15 already. "Thanks so much for understanding kiddo.", Adeel Uncle replied. "It's okay Adeel Uncle! And anyways, I don't think you will be needed. It's just an instruction letter.", she assured him. "Okay then, I will be leaving now. I will send you a copy of the Will very soon. Take care of yourself everyone. I have to catch a flight tomorrow.", he said leaving Bade pa's room. Everybody bid their good byes to him and Aarzo accompanied him outside.
"Take care kiddo. There is something I have hidden from you. Your Bade pa will tell you okay? And yeah! No tears!", Adeel Uncle instructed as he walked to his car. "You take care too. Drive carefully. Have a safe journey.", Aarzo advised, waving her hand as she saw him drive away.
"Aaru! Papa is calling you.", Shiza said, climbing down the stair case. "Oh! Okay. Let's go.", she replied, feeling very tired. "Are you alright?", Shiza asked, feeling Aarzo's low tone. "I am fine Shiza. Don't worry about me. You all are asking me the same question, one by one as if I am an old lady. Now, let me show you that I am NOT old yet.", she said, frustrated by the way everyone is treating her. 'Like I am soon to die.', Aarzo said to herself. Shiza frowned and started looking down in guilt, as if she has committed a very big mistake.
"Hey Shiz! Want to have a race? Like last time?", Aarzo asked trying to change the mood of the girl standing infront of her. She saw her face brighten up all of a sudden as she nodded her head in an approval. "How about we first go to Bade pa and then have our little race?", Aarzo asked as she had a slight idea to what Bade pa was going to tell her. "Sureeeeeeee", Shiza replied and both of them ran off to Bade pa's room.
"Bade pa? You called me?", asked Aarzo, panting a little as she came running in with Shiza behind her. "Yeah. I did. Come, sit here.", he said, pointing to the place beside him on his king sized bed. "Now tell me.", she pleaded impatiently, jumping a little as she sat beside him. "You must be thinking why was I not surprised and didn't react the way you expected when you told me about Minhal. Right?", he asked, caressing her hairs like she was still a 5 year old kid. "ahan", Aarzo replied. "I knew it all already. Your Adeel Uncle told me when he called in the morning to inform that he will be making a visit. You were at the hospital at that time.", he told as he tried to read the expression on Aarzo's face. "Really??", she asked in utter surprise. "Yes! And we hid it from you. You know why?", he asked. Aarzo nodded her head in a "No" like an innocent kid. "Because we wanted you to tell me that, by yourself. I wanted you to be the strong one. I wanted you to show that you have the courage to handle the situation.", he said as the tears formed in his eyes. Both of them were reminded of the day's events once again, moistening their eyes.
"So what did you notice? Did I live up to your expectations?", Aarzo asked after a long pause. "More than enough my child. More than enough", said Bade pa as he kissed Aarzo's forehead.
"Okay, I will go now Bade pa. You need to rest and yeah, I have given the letter to Badi Chachi. We will read it tomorrow.", Aarzo said closing the lights of his room. "Okay, baccha. Good Night!", he said, tucking himself under the soft plush blanket. "Good Night!", Aarzo said in a whisper, leaving the room.
"Ready for the race?", Aarzo said, giving a challenging glance to Shiza as she entered her room where all them were seated including Ali, Afia and Shiza. The only person not there was Zohaib. "You still remember.", Shiza said nervously as she knew that there was an 85% chances for Aarzo to win. "You thought I would forget something like that?", Aarzo replied, laughing as she sat beside Afia.
"Wait! Wait! What is going on?", Ali asked confused about what kind of race they were talking about. "Nothing big. I and Shiza have a little racing competition.", Aarzo replied winking at Ali. All of them were aware of the fact that Aarzo is the best runner between them. Well, that is what they think. Ali started laughing all of a sudden, hearing that Shiza wants to race with Aarzo.
"What's so funny?", Shiza asked, fuming with anger. "You are asking me what is funny?? Hahha…hhahha…..You are racing with her…silly!.....hahha…….even when you know that you ……hhahha……….you will lose.", Ali said between his uncontrollable laughter, giving a high five to Aarzo. "Okay that is enough Ali! Now I will show you who is a loser and who is a winner! Aarzo come downstairs in 5 minutes, in the garden area. WE ARE HAVING A RACE!!!", Shiza said angrily, tapping her feet hard on the floor, in frustration. "Ali Bhaiii, that was very rude, you know.", Afia said, irritatingly, walking away as she followed Shiza. "Let's go Ali. Shiza is really angry.", Aarzo said with a worried look on her face. "You are telling me as if I don't know about it.", Ali replied with a stern look. "It was all because of you. Jerk!", saying this Aarzo dragged Ali with her, to go downstairs.
"Okay guys. On your mark. Get Set. Gooo", Ali shouted, beginning the race. Both Aarzo and Shiza gave each other glances and started running as fast as they could, trying their level best. The area was big enough for the race. Their goal was to reach the end of the garden and come back to the place where they started off. At this moment, surprisingly, Shiza was winning, far away from Aarzo.
'Oh No. She is getting ahead of me. I have to win this race. And I will', Aarzo said in her mind as she repeatedly reminded herself that she will have to win this particular race, no matter what. She didn't know what was happening to her. Why does she want to win? She had no idea why was she thinking like that. But she didn't care either. The only thing mean to her at this moment, was to WIN. She was running like anything at the current moment, having no idea what is in her surroundings as she just saw the point where Ali was standing; the winning post.
"Run. Run. Run like you never did before. C'mon! You can do it.", Aarzo encouraged herself. Atlast, she took over Shiza, but she didn't know that yet. She was just running, forcing her legs to move and only move. *Thud* Aarzo collided against something very giant and strong but was caught in time by that person otherwise she would have clashed on the ground, hurting herself badly.
"Oh God!", he shouted, cursing himself under his breathe. "Are you alright?", he said, rubbing her forehead where she was holding a moment ago. "Aaru? You okay??", he shouted louder this time as he felt that she is not responding to him. She clutched onto his shirt tightly, trying not to loose her balance. She looked up to see the person she crashed into. "Zohaib?" she asked. It were the last words that escaped from her mouth as she fainted right there.
"Aaruu? Aarzoo? Wake up! C'mon", Zohaib said, sprinkling the water on her face. But it was all going in vain. Aarzo lied on the cold wet grass, unconscious. They were quite lucky that Bade pa and Badi chachi were long asleep or else all of them would have been in great trouble. "Shiz? What was the need for you to have a race with her? You know how weak she has become now? She faints on little things. Her heart has weakened a lot. I don't even know if she ate properly or not.", Zohaib said, scolding Shiza who was already crying. Zohaib was just loaded with tension. The stress and nervousness was clearly visible on his face.
"It's not her fault Zohaib bhai. It was Aarzo who said her to race. And this time you are at fault as well. You were the one who clashed into Aarzo, not Shiza. So please! don't blame her.", Afia snapped back at Zohaib. "Afia! Watch your mouth! Is this the way to behave?", Ali yelled at Afia for the very first time. Afia, in anger, left the place at once, taking Shiza with her. "Atleast you could have stopped them from doing this silly, childish race. Why didn't you?". Now, it was Ali's turn to answer. "I…I...........I thought that it was just a friendly race. I didn't know that Aarzo was this much serious about it. I……I thought th….thhatt it would also take her mind off Minhal Chachu.", Ali blabbered out in fear as if he is caught doing a mistake.
"Papa?", Aarzo said, gaining consciousness. She opened her eyes to see the dark black sky staring at her. "Where am I?", she said out loudly. Ali and Zohaib, who were standing at a corner, came running to her after hearing her voice. "How are you feeling now?", Ali asked, his voice full of concern. "Where is Papa?", she asked, getting up, looking here and there. She reacted as if she was new to this place. Ali began to follow her but Zohaib stopped him saying that he will see her. Ali nodded his head, agreeing with him and went to see how Afia and Shiza were doing. He felt that he was a bit harsh to them.
She sat on the swing staring into the emptiness. Lost. She tried to remember what happened? What IS happening? The more she tried, the more her head hurts. It felt as if she is suffering from a slight amnesia. "Aarzo? Are you okay?", Zohaib said, sitting beside her on the swing. He was not sure if she wanted to talk to him or not. "I don't know. I can't remember anything. Ow! My head is hurting a lot, Zohaib. Ouch!", she replied putting her head in her lap and covering it with both her hands. "Can you call my papa? Please!", she asked lifting her head up, innocence filled in her eyes. "Aarzo, just sit here. I will bring something for you. Okay?", he said standing up. Aarzo nodded her head lightly, slowly dozing off. "Don't sleep Aarzo! Keep yourself awake!", Zohaib said running off in the house, leaving Aarzo alone on the swing which was moving vaguely.
"Aarzo! Aarzo! Wake up! C'mon drink this.", Zohaib said patting her cheek as he realized that she is fainting again. He made her sit up and handed her the bottle of Gatorade he had brought for himself from the big, luxurious store at the Airport. He made her drink the orange coloured liquid in the bottle as he saw that she is not in a condition to drink it herself. She moved the bottle away from her mouth, with her hand, after taking a few sips.
"Feeling any better?", he asked after a while, putting the bottle on the ground. "Yea. I think so.", saying this she stood up but Zohaib stopped her from going anywhere. "Sit here for sometime. Just relax. I don't think you can walk.", he advised as Aarzo sat back on the swing, again. "What do you mean?", she asked, with her eyes closed as she tried to search a good spot on the head rest of the swing. "I mean nothing. Silly girl! Have you seen yourself? You are not even able to stand properly and you are asking me that what do I mean?", he replied frustratingly, now resting his head on the back of the swing. Breaking free from all the anxiety and trauma, for sometime.
"Who said you to race with Shiz?", he asked, opening his eyes but saw that Aarzo was long asleep. She looked so disturbed and distressed as if she is having a bad dream. However, he knew it wasn't any nightmare but something else.
"How is she?", asked a concerned Ali, bringing Zohaib out of his trance. "Huh? Oh! I don't know. I just gave her some Gatorade to drink and after that I don't know when she went to sleep.", he said shrugging his shoulders. "Looks like she needs another visit to the doctor.", Ali replied sitting in the free space between Aarzo and Zohaib. Before he could take a seat, Zohaib pushed him and he rolled on the ground.
"Excuse me. What was that for?", Ali asked, getting up as he rubbed the dirt of his clothes. "Did that really hurt Ali?", Zohaib asked sarcastically.
"You don't need to know.", Ali replied, showing that he is hurt
"As if I care!", Zohaib snapped back, continuing the same sarcasm in his voice.
"Shut up and move from the swing.", Ali demanded.
"Why? I was here first!"
"It's my turn now."
"Nooo. Who said that?"
"Shut up!"
"Keep Quite! She is sleeping."
The two continued to fight like little kids as if they were back in their childhood. After a while both calmed down and were laughing in their hearts, remembering the way they were arguing moments ago.
Phew!!!!! Atlast, the part came to its end. 😛 Lol. 😆 So much typing. Anyways, as the part is ended, I am back with my questions for the next part. 😉 What is happening to Aarzo? Will she be okay? What about Afia and Shiza? They didn't seem to have the same reaction for Aarzo that Ali and Zohaib have. Will this lead to misunderstanding in their friendship? What do you think? Was it all Aarzo's fault? What is in that letter? And lastly Will Zohaib ever get a chance to apologize to Aarzo? And even if he did, will Aarzo forgive him?
Keep reading to find out the answer to all the questions in the next part. And yea, COMMENT.😃 And I don't think I need to say this but still suggestions and criticism is welcome. 😉

Don't just close it after viewing. i am sorry if i am sounding rude. but really i am NOT getting the comments usually the other writers get. 🥺 if you don't like the story then i won't continue it from now on. 😒 i am sorry again if you didn't like what i said. 😔
