Part 13
Then everyone joins in and dances. After that, they start the dandiya, and Maya goes out for a few minutes. That's when Raj comes behind her.
Raj: how are you?
Maya: oh hi Raj. I'm good! Thanks for performing! It was really sweet!
Raj: I just wanted to congratulate you and tell you that I'm really happy for you and Rahul.
Maya: thanks Raj. You're okay na?
Raj: never been better….
Maya: Malini…. didn't come with you?
Raj: why would she? The minute we got to New York, she started flirting with the baggage attendant (He can be John, ok Krupa??), and before I knew it she was leaving with him, and I haven't seen her since…I never told you because I just didn't know how to say it to you....
Maya: oh wow…. I'm sorry to hear that.
Raj: don't be…. I'm glad!
At that moment, Rahul came out to look for Maya.
Rahul: hey you two! Raj that was a great performance on your part! I mean you learned the dance in less than 6 hours!
Maya: less than 6 hours??
Raj: ya, just for you!
Maya: how sweet Raj! Anyway Rahul, let's go in! I want to play dandiya!
Rahul: yes your highness! (Looks at Raj) I'm dead after Sunday aren't I?
Raj: definitely!
Maya: RAJ! Rahul! I hate you both!
She goes inside, dragging Arushi, who was on her way out, with her.
Raj: you better go in! She can get pretty feisty!
Rahul: I know Raj; I've been with her for three years.
Raj: Are you ready to get married?
Rahul: ya…. I guess so…. I mean with a person like Maya, I am ready. I mean if Jhanvi and Aman can last more than 2 years and Arushi and Adi for more than a year. It can't be that bad right??
Raj: well…. I wouldn't really know.
Rahul: do you still have feelings for her?
Raj: um…Rahul, I do and I always will, but she's marrying you, and I respect that. She picked who she really loves.
Rahul: ok…. well I better go inside, or else I'm dead!
Raj laughs: ya…I'll come in awhile.
Rahul goes inside and finds Maya and they both play dandiya. After about 10 minutes Adi comes out looking for Raj.
Adi: what are you doing out here?
Raj: I…. uhh…just wanted to be out here for a while.
Adi: will you be able to handle the wedding?
Raj: yes Adi! Now stop worrying about me, and go celebrate your sister's wedding!
Adi: that's why I came looking for you! Let's go inside and play dandiya. I got ditched by my wife for her friends.
Raj: oh poor you. But I'm not doing it! I don't know how….
Adi: fine, just stay here!
Adi goes inside and brings out Arushi and one of her friends.
Adi: Raj, this is Simi or better known as Simran, and Simi this is Raj, one of my closest friends.
Simran: Hi, nice to meet you…
She puts out her hand for a handshake, but Raj doesn't seem to notice since he's too busy staring at Simran, who is wearing a baby pink lengha with a short top that is cut at the bottom, slanted. (Kareena Kapoor's outfit from Bole Chudiyan)
Adi leans over to Raj: Raj! At least shake her hand!
Raj breaks out of his trance and accepts her hand.
Raj: it's a pleasure to meet you too!
Adi: Ok Raj, so Arushi, Simi and I are going to teach you how to play dandiya.
Raj still has his eyes on Simi, who is now starting to blush.
Raj: uh huh….
Adi goes to Arushi,
Adi: how long before they notice we're gone?
Arushi: I say about an hour….
Adi and Arushi both laugh and so Raj and Simran both come back to the real world!
Adi: now can we teach you?
Raj: huh? Ya sure…
The three of them teach Raj dandiya and so they all go into the main hall and set up a four people square for dandiya. Gradually Aman convinces Jhanvi and so they join the line too. Then, Maya and Rahul who are making their way to every group also join in. They danced the whole night away!
The next day is Maya and Rahul's Haldi ceremony, individually. At the Sharma residence, female friends and family have all gathered around Maya to apply the auspicious yellow paste to her. The same thing is taking place at Rahul's house. After the ceremony is over, Maya goes up to her room to shower and take off all the yellow paste. Two minutes after she dresses herself in a simple white salwaar kurta. Arushi knocks on her door.
Arushi: are you ready yet?
Maya doesn't respond but instead opens the door.
Arushi: should we go now?
Maya nods.
Arushi: what happened? Why aren't you saying anything?
Maya goes and sits down by her bed.
Maya: Aru…. I'm scared!
Arushi: to get downstairs? I know your relatives are loud, but they're not scary!
Maya laughs: shut up Aru! I mean to get married….
Jhanvi appears at Maya's door. She knocks on the open door.
Jhanvi: can I come in?
Maya: of course…
Jhanvi: are you scared?
Maya just nods.
Jhanvi: why?
Arushi: she doesn't know.
Jhanvi: But you do love Rahul right?
Maya: yeah…. I do…. I mean of course I do!
Arushi: then what's the problem?
Maya: I don't know…I'm not uhh…. ready to get married tom….
Jhanvi: yes you are. I felt the same way with Aman, but I know I wouldn't be happier with anyone else.
Maya: I guess…
Arushi: Maya, you'll be fine!
Raj comes and knocks on her door….
Raj: can I come in?
Jhanvi looks at Maya, who nods. And so she goes to open the door for Raj…
Raj: can I have a minute alone with Maya?
Jhanvi and Arushi both look at Maya, skeptical of leaving. But she nods and so they both leave.
Raj: you're scared?
Maya just nods
Raj: why?
Maya: I don't know….
Raj: are you sure Rahul is the one?
Maya doesn't say anything….
Raj: because if you're not sure, then remember main hoon na?
Arushi, who was listening from behind the door, opens it frantically and comes in the room and goes up to Raj and slaps him across his face.
Arushi: what do you mean, main hoon na? She's getting married tomorrow!! She's already confused as it; she doesn't need you adding to that! (She gets ready to give him another one)
Maya: wait Aru!! Don't slap him! It's doesn't mean anything to me anymore! I know how much Rahul loves me, and that's good enough for me!
Raj: it doesn't mean anything to you?
Maya: no Raj, we decided we would be friends. That's enough for me. What I feel with Rahul is something I never felt with you.
Arushi: Raj, I don't even know how you said all this to Maya? Last night you were totally mesmerized by Simran.
Maya: Simran? Our Simran?
Arushi: ya, didn't you notice them yesterday, while we were playing dandiya?
Maya: I saw them, but I'm sorry it was my sangeet. I had better things to notice…. So Raj, you like Simi? But yet you had the nerve to tell me that you're there for me?
Raj: yes, I'm attracted to Simran, but that doesn't mean that I don't care about Maya anymore. I love you, as a friend (He says that directed towards Arushi!)
Arushi looks down ashamed: I'm sorry Raj. I didn't mean to slap you, well actually I did, but for a different reason…
Raj and Maya laugh.
Raj: now that you're sure about Rahul, shall we all go down?
Maya: ya…gimme two minutes
Raj leaves her room, while Arushi still stands there. Maya looks at her...
Maya: What?
Arushi: nothing…I…uhh…. wanted to tell you something.
Maya: well then tell me.
Arushi: I need Adi with me, so wait a minute.
Arushi goes downstairs, and she finds Raj and Adi talking and she brings Adi upstairs, who looks confused.
Maya: Aru!!! Tell me quickly! You're making me worried!
Arushi: Maya, Adi and I have something to tell you.
Adi looks at Arushi and they both share a significant look.
Adi: you want to tell her now? A day before the wedding?
Arushi: I can't help it Adi! The guilt is too much!
Maya: ok now, you're scaring me…are you guys separating or something?
Adi and Arushi: NO WAY!! Are you kidding? We're very much in love…
Maya seems really scared at what they're gonna tell her?? Please do leave comments!! Only two or three more parts for this ff!! 😛 😛
