Here is the first part!
Arushi looked at her watch for what seemed like the thousandth time, but no he still wasnt here! If Arushi had one pet peeve, it was definitely tardiness. She should have never agreed to go out with her colleague Vinit. She was only doing this as a favor, because he had literally saved her job. She thinks back to three days ago, when it all happened.
She walked into her office, half an hour early, as usual, and sat leisurely on her swivel chair, and began booting up her laptop. All of a sudden her desk phone flashed! She hated the phones ring and you couldnt change the ring and so instead she just kept it on silent. She answered the phone to a loud annoying screechy voice.
Ms. Adams: Arushi! Are you there? I want you in my office now!
Arushi: (thinks) why would I answer it if I wasnt here? Whoever made her owner of this magazine wasnt thinking straight!
She heads to the elevators and pushes the button to go up *ding-dong* while she is entering the elevator she is showered with papers falling on her!
Arushi: what the hell?
Beneath the papers emerged a man that was relatively short for his age, he was 23, but he was only 58. Vinit was wearing a blue-checkered short sleeve shirt with jeans. At his neck, Arushi noticed that he was wearing a tie. Arushi thought why would any sane man wear a tie, in this weather, especially with a short sleeve shirt?
Vinit: Oh my god Arushi! Im so sorry. the papers all just slipped out of my hands. Im really sorry
Arushi holds up her hand to tell him to stop talking.
Arushi: Vinit, its ok anyway, are you getting off at this floor, or should I (she looks towards the button; she needs to press for her floor)
Vinit: no no, I need to go see Ms. Adams.
Arushi looks at him with a surprised expression.
Arushi: Ms. Adams called you to her office now? Like right now?
Vinit: ya, is there a problem?
Arushi: I dont know Vinit, (she sniffles back her tears) lately everything I hand in for last editing, she turns it down. I work so hard on all my articles for the magazine and she shoots all of them down! I mean if she hates my work, then why did she even hire me? Now, shes probably calling me to her office, so she can fire me!
Vinit immediately drops the papers and folders that he was holding, and goes to Arushi, and gently wipes the tears off her cheeks.
Vinit: Arushi, please dont cry! Here ummdrink some water.
He digs into his briefcase and produces a Dasani water bottle. Arushi takes the waster bottle and unscrews the top and gulps down the water.
Vinit: wait ArushiI already drunk from it!
Arushi directly spits it back into the bottle.
Arushi: oh sorry Vinit, Ill buy you a new water bottle.
Arushi heads to the ladies rest room to freshen up. When she gets out both, her and Vinit, head to Ms. Adams office. Vinit knocks on her office door.
Ms. Adams: Come in!
Vinit walks in, followed by Arushi.
Arushi: Ms. Adams, you called me to your office, and you also called Vinit at the same time?
Ms. Adams: Youre questioning me now? I am your boss, not the other way around!
Arushi: Ms. AdamsI didnt mean it that way. I
The icy voice of Ms. Adams interrupts her.
Ms. Adams: oh just shut up Arushi! I have called you both here, to let you know, that Vinit has been promoted and Arushi your name has been taken off the payroll.
Arushi: But Ms. Adamswhat have I.
Ms. Adams: Arushi I dont want to hear anything from you! Congratulations to you by the way Vinit.
Vinit: But Ms. Adams. I dont really think this is fair
Ms. Adams: Vinit, you just got promoted, go enjoy the moment, and you Arushi, I expect you out of the cabin by 1:30pm, we need to get it cleaned for Vinit.
Vinit: Ms. Adams, you mean Im the new editor?
Ms. Adams nods, lightly sneering at Arushi.
Vinit shoots Arushi a look of deep regret.
Vinit: then who is taking over my position as food and home editor?
Ms. Adams: Vinit, there is no need for you to worry about that, I hired someone from the employee transfer agency, someone is coming from Delhi.
Arushi is still overcome by the pain and agony of losing her job.
Vinit looks at Arushi with a look that shows he understands the pain that she is going through.
Vinit: Ms. Adams, can I make my first executive decision as editor?
Ms. Adams nods in approval
Vinit: then I choose to appoint Arushi at my old position...
Arushi look at Vinit, the same Vinit, whom she used to despise because of his over eagerness, was doing something so important for her! She held the urge to hug him until Ms. Adams says yes.
Ms. Adams: Vinit, you appointing her is strictly your decision and I want her to report back to you, and she can send all her articles to you too, I would like nothing to do with her! But then what will you do, with the new girl coming from Delhi?
Hearing those cold words from Ms. Adams, immediately brought tears to Arushis eyes, but she chose to hold them in.
Vinit: that girl and Arushi can both work together! Is that ok with you Arushi?
Arushi is in a situation where if she says no, her job is gone, and if she says yes, then she wont be able to work with the other girl, because Arushi is always a worker who develops better when she is by herself.
Ms. Adams: leave it Vinit, looks like Miss. Arushi doesnt need this job from you.
Arushi: no Ill take it!
Ms. Adams: Are you sure Arushi? You know that it would involve you working with someone else, which I know you can never do!
Arushi: (thinks) Ill do anything to keep my job! (To Ms. Adams) I can work with other people, and Ill prove it to you!
Ms. Adams: ok Arushi, lets have a bet, if you can work one month with the new girl, then you can have your old position back as head editor.
Arushi: and if I cant?
Ms. Adams: then you are actually fired! (She looks at Vinit) and no one can re-appoint you! Is that clear to both of you?
Vinit and Arushi look at each other and then nod at Ms. Adams.
Ms. Adams: ok well then the bet is on, oh and Arushi your lucky!
Arushi: why is that?
Ms. Adams: because the girl isnt coming from Delhi till next week.
Arushis face lights up with happiness, knowing that at least for a week she can work alone.
Ms. Adams looks at them both with a fake smile on her face, then her eyes go wide and she glares at both, Arushi, and Vinit, giving them the sign to leave her office!
