Outside Maya hears the commotion and runs into the kitchen!

Maya: Arushi is everything okay? What happened?

Chef: Maya, you know her?

Maya: Ya she's one of my friends. What did you do now?

Chef: I think we sent the wrong meal to her table….

Arushi: that's right you did…uggh…this whole night is going wrong….

Maya leans over and whispers in Arushi's ear

Maya: It's because of your date.

Arushi laughs

Arushi: but god this chef, look at his attitude? It's his mistake, but he's still smiling.

Maya looks at the chef, and glares at him while shaking her head.

Chef: sorry Miss….?

Arushi: Arushi

Chef: Sorry Miss Arushi, I know it's my mistake…. but how about this? You will receive one free lunch date?

Arushi looks puzzled.

Arushi: lunch date? Don't you mean one free lunch coupon?

Chef: no I mean lunch date! One free lunch date with yours truly.

Arushi is surprised by the boldness.

Maya tries extremely hard to suppress her smile.

Chef: so what? No answer?

Arushi can't help but smile

Arushi: I don't even know your name, how am I supposed to say yes?

Maya: Yes you do know his name, this is my brother Adi!

Arushi: Adi?? Omg…ummm….

Maya: and Adi this is Arushi, you remember her right?

Adi had never seen such a beautiful girl. She was pretty in a way that no one else would understand! She was what Maya would call naturally pretty. The way her eyes sparkled when she laughed and her naturally wavy hair flowing down her back. She was dressed in dark boot-cut jeans, with a beaded purple top, wait his sister had told him, it was actually called a halter-top. Draped over her shoulders was a gray wrap, but when it combined with her skin, the wrap shined silver. Adi liked the fact that she wore minimal make-up not like some of the girls he had liked that dumped a whole truckload of make-up on their faces. She was like "fire on ice" When Maya told him that this was Arushi, Adi was ecstatic, he could find many more ways to meet her, if she declined his lunch date…speaking of which…

Adi: now that you know my name…and I know yours, how about that lunch date?

Arushi didn't know what was happening to her, she was feeling butterflies in her stomach and her knees were going weak... Right at that moment, Vinit came into the kitchen looking for her

Vinit: here you are Arushi! I thought you might have abandoned me on our first date!

Adi: (thinks) date? Oh great! The one girl I actually end up liking ends up having a boyfriend!

Maya notices that Adi's smile all of a sudden disappears. So she goes over to him and puts her hand on his shoulder and gives him a reassuring squeeze.

On the way out, Arushi makes eye contact with Adi and gives him a small smile, and then she looks at Maya and gives her a huge smile and says, "Maya, tell your brother that my answer is yes!" She looks at Adi, who is now beaming with happiness! Then she leaves.

Maya looks at Adi, and says, "Adi, she's gone, shut your mouth!! And please stop drooling!!!"

Adi: Maya, I'm going to kill you!!

Maya leaves the kitchen laughing

Adi can't believe his good luck, Arushi said yes? He tries to go back to make food.

Back at Vinit and Arushi's table

Vinit (slurry speech): Arushi, what would you like for dessert?

Maya comes to their table

Maya: has your waitress come to take your order for dessert yet?

Arushi makes eye contact with Maya, and tells her with hand gestures that Vinit is drunk.

Arushi: umm Maya, I think we're good right now.

Vinit: (slurry) No…umm...We'll have the Tiramisu.

Maya: (widens her eyes at Vin) o-okay, it'll be right up…

Maya goes towards the kitchen and calls Arushi with her hand gestures. Arushi goes to where Maya was standing.

Maya: there is no possible way that I'm letting you go home with him!!!

Arushi: Maya, then how the hell am I getting home?

Maya: what am I dead?? I'll take you home!

All of sudden the kitchen door opens and Adi is taking his apron off, underneath he is wearing a blue and white striped short sleeve shirt over jeans.

Adi: I couldn't help over hearing….

Maya rolls her eyes, "Ya right!"

Arushi laughs and Adi turns to look at her, and she gets shy and looks down.

Adi: anyway before my darling "sister" interrupted, I think Maya, you forgot that u have to go meet that guy who wants to co-own our chain of restaurants…

Maya slaps her hand on her head!

Maya: OH SHIT!!! Thanks Adi, umm I'll go meet him, but then what about Aru?

Adi: I'll take her home.

Arushi raises her eyebrows and tries her best to not smile.

Maya: oh but Adi, I can drop her off and then go for my meeting…

Adi immediately puts his hand over Maya's mouth…

Adi: umm Arushi, how about you go tell your boyfriend that you'll get a ride from me!

Arushi: ummmm he's not my "boyfriend" It's just a little friendly date.

Adi's face lights up with happiness

Arushi: ok Bye Maya

Maya: (mumbled)

Maya bites Adi's finger and he yelps in pain and uncovers her mouth.

Maya: make sure you write a good review for our restaurant, and I'll call you tom okay?

Arushi: sure BYE!!!

When Arushi goes back to her table, she notices that Vinit is fast asleep on the table.

Arushi: (under her breath) Oh my god! Now what the hell do I do?

Adi comes up behind her

Adi: what happened? (He looks at Vinit) Oh umm…shall we order a taxi for him?

Arushi turns around and sees Adi's serious expression and bursts out laughing.

Adi: You keep laughing while I get this guy a taxi okay?

Arushi nods, and keeps laughing.

A Taxi was already outside the restaurant, and so Adi carried Vinit into the taxi and Arushi told the driver Vinit's address.

Maya comes outside the restaurant, her bartender vest replaced by a black blazer.

Maya: Hey what happened to him? (Nods towards Vinit)

Arushi: he fell asleep, probably because of all the alcohol!

Adi: he was drinking?

Maya: Adi, you have no idea, he was completely zonked.

The three of them laugh

Adi: Maya, which car are you taking?

Maya: (being extra sweet) Adi, can I take the self-parking Lexus.

Adi: Maya, I don't know, I don't feel safe with you driving the Lexus.

Maya: Adi that is sooooooo unfair!!!

Arushi leans back and enjoys watching their brother and sister fight.

Maya: Hey Aru, want to help me?

Aru declines by shaking her head in the negative.

Maya: And Adi shouldn't we impress the guy by showing him our awesome car?

Adi: Maya, when you meet him, you'll realize that you don't need to impress him!

Maya: and why is that?

Adi: I'm not telling!

Maya: Adi, god you're so mean!!! Anyway I'm getting late, the meeting is at 10:30 right?

Adi: ya, at the Excalibur, dessert bar.

Maya: ok and how I am supposed to recognize him?

Adi: he's seen you before, so he'll come to meet you.

Maya: Ok Bye Adi. Bye Aru!!

She goes to Adi and he gives her a brotherly hug, and a peck on the cheek, then she goes to Arushi who also gives her a hug. Arushi whispers good luck in Maya's ears and Maya looks at her and then at Adi, and says you too! With that she grabbed the Lexus keys from Adi, and drives off towards the dessert bar.

Adi looks at Arushi, who has all of a sudden, become shy again.

Adi: umm…let's go…

Arushi: sure

Adi leads Arushi to his BMW, he opens the door for her and she doesn't protest like she did with Vin. Then while they are driving, Arushi finally musters up enough courage to talk to Adi.

Arushi: umm Adi…can I ask you a question?

Adi: first can I tell you something?

Arushi: you're answering a question with another question?

Adi: so are you, anyway why are you always so shy around me? You know you don't have to be, because we do know each other from before.

Arushi: Thanks for the advice, anyway, why did you let Maya go by herself for a meeting with an unknown guy so late at night?

Adi laughs

Adi: awww so you're worried about my little sister?

Arushi: of course, I mean Adi, look outside, its pitch black, and she's going off to a dessert bar, to meet some guy, and you're telling me that you're not worried?

Adi: Arushi, I would be worried, if I didn't know who the guy was…. He's my friend from New York

Arushi: so you do know him?

Adi: of course, you think I'm some stupid guy, who doesn't care about his sister? I only let her go to this meeting because I knew who the guy was. If it were anyone else I would have gone myself.

Arushi: but you still could have gone right?

Adi: I could have, but I wanted to drop you home…

Arushi immediately looks down again.

Adi: see what I mean, you get shy soooo easily… a guy just has to say like 5 lines to you, and you're sweating

Arushi: I am not sweating….

Adi: look at your forehead before you answer

Arushi pulls down the sunshade, and opens the mirror, and notices tiny beads of sweat on her forehead…she bites her tongue and takes out a tissue to dab at them…

Arushi: how do you know me so well Adi?

Adi: Because…you would always come over to my house to play with Maya remember, and since then I guess you were the only real girl, besides my sister that I ever talked to.

Arushi turns to look at Adi and is surprised to see that he is also staring in her direction…

Arushi: oh umm…so who is the guy that Maya has gone to meet?

Adi: I'm not telling you, Maya will probably call you early in the morning to gossip with you anyway…so I'm not wasting my breath

Arushi: fine…

Adi: can I ask you a small question Arushi?

Arushi: Aru

Adi: what?

Arushi: you can call me Aru

Adi: ok, can I ask you a small question Aru?

Arushi: go ahead…

Adi: why did you say yes?

Arushi: for what?

Adi: to go for the lunch date with me, especially if you already have a boyfriend?

Arushi: first of all Adi, he isn't my boyfriend, he did a huge favor for me at work, and so I gave him a treat, and second of all, I don't find it necessary to answer that question of yours.

Adi: really?

Arushi: ya anyway, my house is right here on the left. So I'll talk to you later?

Adi: definitely, and I'll umm call you about the lunch date...

Arushi: sure...

Adi: can I have your cell number?

Arushi: why can't you get it from Maya?

Adi: I don't know it might be kind of awkward getting your number from my sister…

Arushi laughs: ok its (604) 619-2161

Adi quickly puts it into his cell phone….

Adi: can I call you tomorrow?

Arushi: sure,

Adi: and don't worry, I'll call you after my sister calls you in the morning….

Arushi: About that, how early would she call me?

Adi: depends on how affected she is by this meeting…

Arushi: god Adi, you're really making me suspicious….

Adi: that's the whole idea!

Excalibur Dessert Bar

Maya: (thinks) god I love that car, it parks itself!! Anyway this stupid meeting, god knows what kind of an oldie Adi is making me meet!!

Maya catches someone's eye and they get up to come and greet her

Maya: (thinks) OMG!!! What is he doing here? Is he who I'm meeting? OMG Adi set me up!!

Maya forces a smile on her face and she fixes her eyes on a man walking towards her in black pants, and emerald green shirt (yes they match, not intentionally!) and a black blazer, she looks up at his hair and notices it completely flat on his head, her eyes move lower to eye level and she finds herself drowning in his hazel-colored eyes. Her eyes move lower even further and she looks at his lips, which are curled up into an all-knowing smile, showing off his sexily cute dimples. Quickly Maya's forced smile turns into a real smile, when she realized that Adi, her own brother, her own flesh and blood, set her up!! When the man came within arm's reach, Maya put out her hand for a handshake.

Maya: Raj Malhotra, we've met before? I'm Maya Sharma.

Raj: is there a particular reason you're being so formal?

Maya: Raj this meeting is strictly business and…

Raj: I love mixing business with pleasure...

He takes Maya hand kisses the back of it.

Maya: Raj you can't just…

Raj: Maya relax; me and Adi already talked about the business details, so we can both just chill, chill, just chill (sings)

Maya: I'm guessing u like that song? God! I can't believe Adi!! Or you for that matter! I thought we decided to stop seeing each other!

Raj: we did decide that, and hopefully you will remember why?

Maya: Raj of course I remember but then what are you doing here?

Raj: would you believe that Adi called me?

Maya: Adi called you? But he was against our relationship in the first place, and that's why you broke up with me!!

Raj: Maya, (he takes her hand on the table and holds it in his) you know right, that the only reason I broke up with you, is because I didn't want anything to happen to your relationship with Adi!!

Maya takes her hand out of his

Maya: Raj, that's the whole point, what's to say you won't do it again?

Raj: Maya, don't you understand? Adi is okay with us seeing each other now that's why he called me here!

Maya: really? Are you serious?

Raj: Ya, he said you were totally miserable without me!

Maya: RAJ!!! (Playfully slaps his hand on the table)

Raj: so what do you say? Can we be together again? I know I was miserable without you…. and I really want to be together again…

Maya: together as in?

Raj: as in…. you know… me boyfriend, you girlfriend….

Maya laughs

Maya: ok cut theact from Kal Ho Naa Ho!

Raj: wanna dance?

Meera: what?

Raj: you know, moving with the music, like that (points to other couples, close dancing)

Maya: Raj, you know that I haven't said yes to the relationship thing right?

Raj: I know but you can think it over, while we dance.

He gets up and takes his black blazer off, and puts his hand out to Maya, who ponders a bit before accepting it. They move to the center of the dance floor, and Raj puts his hands on her waist, while she reaches up to put her hands around his neck.

Raj: by the way, we already look like the perfect couple!

Maya: how exactly is that?

Raj leans down to whisper in her ear.

Raj: For starters our clothes are matching…

Maya immediately turns bright red in the face

Raj: Maya, we've dated before, you don't need to be so shy!

Maya laughs: I know…. anyway where are you staying?

Raj: oh well right now, I'm staying right here at the Excalibur, but Adi said…. (Trails off)

Maya: Adi said what?

Raj: Adi said that depending on how this night goes, and if you forgive me or not, then I can come stay at your house!

Maya: our house? Adi thinks that if we (does the hand gesture, points to him and herself) became boyfriend and girlfriend then its ok for you to stay in our house? Is he crazy?

Raj gets a hint of mischievousness in his eyes.

Raj: why are you scared of me?

Maya: why? Should I be?

Raj pulls her closer at the waist

Raj: You should definitely be scared!

Maya pulls away from him and goes to sit back on the table…

Raj: so am I forgiven?

Maya: what do you think?

Raj: yes?

Maya shakes her head in the negative. Raj's face drops

Raj: no?

Maya once again shakes her head no.

Raj: then?

Maya gets a mischievous smile on her face and says,

Maya: Raj, will you drop me home? Oh and get your stuff from your room…

Raj: what?

Maya just smiles

Raj: I'll be right down

Raj goes up to his hotel room to gather his stuff and Maya takes out her blue flip phone, and dials Arushi's number.

Maya: (thinks) Oh god, its 11:20 pm; I hope she's not sleeping!! (The phone gets answered) Hello? Aru!!!

Arushi: (sleepy) Maya is that you?

Maya: Ya I'm sorry for calling so late Aru, but it's important!

Arushi: (completely alert) what happened? Did the guy turn out to be a jerk?

Maya: No, but he is the reason I called. Ummmm I didn't tell you, but you know when you were in London with your parents, a few months ago, well I was in New York and I met a guy and….

Arushi: oooo anyway continue…

Maya: His name was Raj, and we went around for about a month, before Adi found out, but when he found out, that's where the problem started. Raj is Adi's best friend, and so I used to see him al the time around the house, and one thing led to another and we started dating, but Adi was against the whole idea, partially because Raj had two serious relationships in the past, that he chose to end, and so Adi was afraid that Raj would hurt me too. And so Raj, not wanting to be a barrier between Adi, and me chose to break our relationship.

Arushi: Maya, you're scaring me, why are you telling me all this now?

Maya: because Raj is the guy I met for a meeting tonight and he told me that Adi called him here to Toronto!

Arushi: where are you going with this?

Maya: ok I'll be honest, mom and dad are in India right now, and you knew that right?

Arushi: Ya…

Maya: well Adi has given permission for Raj to stay at our house, and I don't know, I guess I'm scared and so…I'm asking your opinion, what do I do? After mom you're the only other person that I truly trust.

Arushi: aww Maya, how sweet! So do you love him?

Maya: Aru, love? I don't know, I mean how do I know what love really is?

Arushi: ok well then go with your gut feeling.

Maya: but Aru, he hurt me! And I don't want to forgive him that easily.

Arushi: ok well then this is what you're going to do!

Arushi gives advice to Maya...

Maya: ok thanks Arushi, anyway I never asked you, how was your ride home?

Arushi: It was good

Maya: anything happen?

Arushi: Why should I tell you?

Maya: ARUSHI!!

Arushi laughs: ok well we talked about you, and then he took my cell number

Maya: I knew it!! Awww my best friend and my brother!

Arushi: so are you going to do what I told you to?

Maya: def, ok he's coming back, I'll talk to you tomorrow!!

Arushi: Ya but, I'm coming to your house tomorrow; I need to see this Raj person!

Maya laughs: ok bye

Arushi: BYE!

When Raj is coming towards Maya he notices that she was on the phone and when she made eye contact with him, she quickly hung up.

Raj: who were you talking to?

Maya: oh umm one of my friends.

Raj: Arushi?

Maya is surprised.

Maya: ya umm…but how did you know?

Raj: Adi just called me on my cell to know what happened between us, and when he found out that we are okay, he told me about Arushi, and how he met her this evening.

Maya: did Adi sound like he liked her when he was talking to you about her?

Raj: ya he sounded very "smitten" by her!

Maya: That's great!

Raj: Today just is a great day, Adi has finally liked a girl, and you and I are together again!

Maya: Raj, I never actually said yes! I'm just being a nice person, and letting you stay at our house. Don't be under the misconception that I'm getting back together with you!

Raj: but….

Maya: no Raj! You're coming to my house only as Adi's friend; you and I have no connection whatsoever!

Raj: but Maya…

Maya: Let's just go home

Raj just quietly agrees and takes his bags and follows Maya to the Valet parking. The valet goes and to get Maya's car, she gets into the drivers seat and pops open the trunk for Raj to put his bags in, and then he comes and sits in the passenger seat. Maya starts the car and drives towards her home.

Raj's mind is turning round and round in somersaults.

Raj: (thinks) how did Maya's attitude change so suddenly? She was fine before, and now she is acting so…. so…. so bitchy. Maybe Arushi said something to her, because before she spoke with her she was fire! I'll have to talk about this with Adi!

Maya: You'll be staying in the downstairs loft.

Raj snaps out of his thinking factory.

Raj: sorry I...uhh didn't catch that.

Maya rolls her eyes.

Maya: God Raj, you know I hate repeating myself! Anyway I said that you'd be staying downstairs in the loft.

Raj: oh ok, that's fine, but isn't there like 2 extra bedrooms upstairs?

Maya: Raj is the house mine or yours? Can't we choose which room we want to give you?

Raj: (thinks) sheesh! What the hell is her problem?

Raj: sorry, I'm sorry. I'm eternally grateful to you and Adi for letting me stay in your house.

Maya: ok we're here.

She shuts off the engine and Raj opens the door and is about to get out when….

Maya (normal sweet tone): Raj, can I ask you for a favor?

Raj smiles thinking that she finally became normal again!

Raj: anything

Maya: can you please not tell Adi about all this?

Raj: but….

Maya: thanx bye! C-ya in the morning.

And she runs into the house, unlocking the door with her jingling keys. She doesn't acknowledge Adi sitting on the sofa closest to the stairs as she runs up to her room.

Adi gets flustered at seeing this, but then he goes outside to the front step to help Raj bring in his luggage.

Adi: Hey Raj! What's up with Maya? Did you say something to her?

Raj: no, she was fine before she talked to that girl Arushi

Adi: Arushi?

Raj: ya, when you and me had the conversation that's when Maya spoke with her and I think that she must have said something and so the result is that Maya is acting totally…rude? Is that the right word?

Adi: dude, Maya's a girl, they get mood swings remember?

Raj: oh shut up, Adi! It's more than that….

Adi: we'll talk about it in the morning, first let's get you in the house and settled into your room, I fixed up the guest room upstairs for you

Raj: But Maya said…

Right at the moment Maya comes to the top of the stairs dressed in her green satin pj's with her hair clipped on top of her head and toothpaste foam around her mouth.

Maya: Adi make him stay in the loft please? I'll explain later

Adi: but Maya?

Maya (being extra sweet): please, Adi bhai?

Maya rarely ever called Adi bhai, because she didn't like it, but she knew that Adi loved if and whenever she used it she got whatever she wanted!

That's it...I really hope you all like this ff, if you don't please tell me right away, I'll end it! 😳
