Thanks for your regular encouragement Bhumi! You can expect chapter 10 (RN)this evening (hopefully!😉).
Chapter 10: Car problems
Naina hurriedly ran out of the Sharma residence, her purse jangling in her left hand. She zipped it open and fished for her car key. "Oh, where did I put it!" she muttered. Finally on finding it (concealed behind a chocolate slab) she rammed it into the keyhole.
Hastily, she jumped into the car, started the engine and began driving towards the Nainital airport. Unlike Abhimanyu and Rajveer had assumed, Naina had fled from the house to receive her parents, flying back from the venue of marriage that night.
She had realized she was getting late, and hence the hurry. But, for a moment, a particular person had appeared in her mind. She drove through several deserted roads, the cool night breeze blowing in her face.
After a few miles, the broad roads ended and the wild forests appeared. The clear sky, so far, became cloudy. A bolt of lightening, a clap of thunder shook Naina. Frightened, Naina drove on. Suddenly, the car gave an unpleasant lurch. It had skidded right over several glass pieces.
"No, not now!" Naina moaned as the car began to slow down and finally stood still. She tried to restart it, but in vain. She pulled her purse and began looking for her cell to contact either her mechanic or Alekh, but did not receive any signal.
It poured as she sat in her car, fortunately dry as the car had a closed 'roof'. She bent over the steering wheel, he head pressed against the horn, cursing her fate.
**********
Rajveer checked his watch as Abhimanyu rambled on next to him. "My goodness, 9 o'clock already! I just have an hour to get to the conference," he thought. "Alekh, I'm getting late, I really must rush!" he said. "OK, Sir and thanks for coming. I really appreciate it!" Alekh said. Rajveer patted Alekh on the arm and dashed out of the door.
He got into his car and drove at a speed so high, that if a police officer spotted him, he would be fined within seconds, that is if the officer would be able to catch up with him. In almost no time, he reached the creepy forest. The heavy rains blinded his vision.
He could just make out the outline of something huge blocking the narrow road. He blew the horn impatiently, but to his annoyance, the vehicle stayed put. "Oh, for Pete's sake!" he muttered as he got out of his car, opening his umbrella.
He walked towards the vehicle, apparently a Tata Sumo, and rapped on the driver's window. To his immense surprise, the window lowered to reveal a weeping Naina. "Sir, is that you?" she asked in a trembling voice. "Yes, Naina, it is me," Rajveer replied queerly.
"Oh thank goodness!" she said relieved, as she opened the door of her car and stepped out, and ended up hugging the Colonel. Naina sobbed into Rajveer's shirt as he, wearing a lost expression, clutched his umbrella.
Aware of what she had just done, Naina suddenly jerked her head and 'jumped' away from Rajveer. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to..." she mumbled and looked down. "It's alright Doctor," Rajveer said, "But how come you're still here? You left ages ago!"
"Car broke down," she said quietly, "I had to receive my parents at the airport ten minutes ago. I can't even call them up and apologise, because I can't get a signal." "No problem," Rajveer said, "I'll drive you there and I think my cell has a signal."
He led her towards his car and opened the door for her. She sat inside his car, with a vague feeling, as she watched him push her car towards the other side. He got into the car and said, "Here's my mobile. Call your parents now." Naina wearily took the cell, dialled her father's cell number and quickly explained the situation to him.
Her father told her it was OK and said they would hail a taxi back home. Rajveer took back the cell and dialled his seniors, informing them that due to an emergency, he would not be able to make it for the conference. He then dialled Abhimanyu.
*********
Abhimanyu heard his cell ring and picked it up. "Rajveer!" he exclaimed seeing his friend's name appear on his mobile screen.
"Hey, Raj!"
"Yes, hello Abhi! Listen, please send a mechanic to the nearby forest. Naina's car has broken down and we need it repaired."
"A mechanic? OK, I'll send one pronto! But what are you going to do now?"
"I'm driving Naina home. Tell the mechanic to get it repaired and sent to Naina's house. You know the address, right?"
"Absolutely! You can count on me."
"Thanks Abhi!"
"You're welcome Raj."
A hand tapped Abhimanyu's back. He turned around to see a familiar face smiling at him. The person replied, "I heard you needed a mechanic. Well, I'm a pretty good one! So, what about it?"
*********
The rain poured even worse as Rajveer began to start the car. "I don't think you should risk starting it now Sir," Naina advised.
"Then what do you propose we do, Doctor?"
"I think we should wait for a while in the car. The rain is sure to stop soon."
"Well, fine then."
Naina and Rajveer avoided each other's gaze and were determined to look out of the misty windows. After quite a while, as the rain continued to pour, Naina spoke up unexpectedly.
"I'm sorry Sir."
"For what?"
"For the way I treated you in the hospital, for the way I behaved after the first year mid-term mission, for shooting you. I just couldn't help it! My brother mattered the world to me. But now, I realize how selfish I was! Please forgive me if you can."
"I do not blame you for your actions, Naina. Any loving sister would have reacted the way you did."
"But still..."
An uncomfortable silence prevailed between the two. "Let's open the windows, it's getting very stuffy," Rajveer suggested. They opened the windows as the smell of rain, that had reduced now, entered their nostrils.
"Listen Naina, I have to tell you something very important," Rajveer said suddenly, "About Naveen, about the Red Box," and he began his explanation, Naina becoming more and more shocked with every pice of news.
Rajveer's voice at present wasn't very loud. But it was loud enough for the figure, who was lurking about a nearby tree, to hear.

You can expect it in chapters 13-14 and in more throughout the story. I'll be switching tracks in various chapters. There'll be quite a few written from each character's POV (including the new additions) and please continue writing about what you want. I have to write what my readers like right?
