“Your Mum was too distraught, she insisted I must pray so…” she kept her upper body away from him

“I am being discharged in an hour” he laughed

“This hospital is a money grab, I broke my elbow and have two shoulder scrapes”

“U don’t have to mock her” Taaruni wagged a finger

Taaruni was bright red, though Sumedha did not for one second mean to taunt her
Nah… I doubt I am going to be like you” he goaded his mother
Gopal came in with a grim face
“What is even going on with you two” he growled as Taaruni went up to him for a hug

“Exactly!! You are married, yet you fight like sworn enemies?”
“When?” Taaruni was confused
“I just heard he spent 4 days there never went to see your mother. He just grabbe the bike and rode back home”
Pradyut’s face was expressionless
“Umm.. Ive been busy at the store” Taaruni was evasive

“I want to catch some zzzs Dad!” Pradyut was firm

“Ah” he nodded getting off the bed, she vamoosed to a far away couch
And peered down at her phone, he was ready in under five, jeans and a lavender Polo tee shirt
“Do u want to ride ur bike home?” she asked mirthfully
“Only if u ride with me” he muttered
“I hate motorcycles, it’s the most juvenile way to showcase machismo”
“What about women who ride”
She shrugged
“U think I do it for female attention?”
“I don’t know u well enough” she mumbled
“You do!” he said quietly
He reached for her hand, when she heard the curtain rustling she pulled away and stood up hurriedly
It was Pia!!!
“Checking on your investment?” she muttered as Taaruni let herself out
“No actually… I am his investment, I pay him rent and pay for food” she spoke calmly, walking into the corridor

I fail to understand that dude. He does want a proper relationship but at the same time won’t be forthcoming and honest about how he actually feels for her.
But what’s her to be committed and honest on all fronts.

The Doctor, a young balding bespectacled guy identified himself as Dr Dhaval Khare, spent almost 45 minutes with her explaining what needed done with his fractured elbow and the scraped shoulder and knee and calf and heel
“How is he doing?” she asked softly checking to make sure no one was watching her express concern for Pradyut.
That would be bad. Her feelings for him could never be out in the open, especially Pradyut could never never NEVER find out she was in love
He drove her crazy.

This farcical marriage will continue with no one finding out
“Umm.. he didn’t slide under a truck or a bus, he just slid off the road and flew on to a sidewalk two blocks from his house

“Umm.. let me see, he started riding at 3 AM? He said?”

“U didn’t know?” he asked astonished
“Umm.. no.. I wasn’t.. I was staying at my Mum’s”
“the bike was at ur brother’s place?” “Oh yeah he told me… yeah he prolyl stayed the night there” Dhaval nodded cheerily
“No Doc, we are baying for each others’ blood, I stopped work at one of his construction sites, he came flying in and is working to demolish the storage room behind my Dad’s store”
“I am sure he was tired” she nodded
“Guy never sleeps, and he always wants to win” Dhaval was offended
“Hmm”
“How do u deal with him?”
She turned bright red
“I… I didn’t know” she lied
“This man is a straight shooter, what u see is what u get. Someone needs to slap some sense into him about work life balance”
She listened to all the instructions carefully and nodded obediently
She wasn’t really crazy about caring for him. Her heart couldn’t take it. His tousled hair and unshaven face was already pretty unsettling

She texted Sumedha “Will also drop Harold off please?” “When you send the food”
“Are u sure Dad and I can care for him”

Every time she expressed love for the puppy meant she loved Sumedha’s son’s gesture of buying it for her
Pradyut was blasting Pia in his room, about the lack of apology

When the food was brought, Harold scampered in, Sumedha and Gopal left after a visit it was past midnight

Harold watched mesmerized, cuddling in Pradyut’s arms
“Do I get a bath tomorrow?” he muttered
She blushed a bright pink
“Umm.. no I was not told anything about a bath” she let her hair curtain her hot cheek
She dreaded going up to his shoulder chest area, she saved it for last, and pretended to be clinical
Their face was inches from each other
He winced when she applied the antispeptic
She bit her lower lip to hide her smile
Harold was excited for her red bangles, as it clicked rhythmically when she moved her hands
“I know right? Crazy stuff” Pradyut agreed, laughing
He reached with his right hand and tucked her hair behind her ear
She froze and almost staggered back on the sofa, he pulled on her wrist steadying her
“Kya kar rahe ho” she scolded
“Helping u” he mocked, tucking her hair back again
“U touching me causes more chaos” she muttered inaudibly, just like that… just like that blurting that line out
