Fragile egos
“I have never asked you for money! Yes I used the apartment for a few years I admit it has been the greatest mistake of my life, but please don’t tell Aai I am taking all your money”
She sent a text furiously
Sagar called her back immediately
Within a couple hours through her friends who acted as spies for her she discovered Amruta was the one who had told Falguni “Sagar is unable to fulfill his alimony promises because he has a grown daughter with needs”
Sagar had enough money to buy a whole fricking town, but Amruta wanted none of it shared obviously.
“Please tell your girlfriend to stop stirring the pot” she texted that night as she lay in bed
Aatreya texted her “How was your day?”
“Not so great, my mother showed up to yell at me
about stealing my Dad’s money”
“Whatt?”
“It is what it is… do you really want us to get married?”
“I do” he said
He knew none of this was easy
His mother was arriving over the weekend
He didn’t know how to tell Mrunalini about it
Now after hearing her shouting match with her own mother he was not even sure anymore
“I am hoping to go with Sai to Goa for a couple days with Dhru”
“Umm..”
“U can have him two weekends in a row afterwards sorry”
“I need him this weekend” he said sullenly
“Oh? Why?”
“My mother is going to be in town”
“Sudden plan?”
“Looks like it”
“I already booked a place for us too” she was irritated
“I promise u can use the bank employee preferred hotel for free”
“I don’t need handouts” she chuckled
“No its not… my mother wants to see him”
“tell her she can see him next time”
“Umm..”
“She will want to see me too next” she joked
“No” he said quickly
“Oh… Oh… Umm… is she going to be here to tell you what an awful idea it is to marry me?”
It suddenly dawned on her
“No” he lied
“I am sorry, she can do it in peace and quiet, I am bringing Dhru with me”
“I am not ready to argue”
They both hung up
The next morning he text pleaded
He is the only grandson, my sister doesn’t have kids…
“He is my only child I have to bring him with me”
“U are just being petulant”
“Did u want to marry me so you could get unfettered access to Dhru?”
He didn’t answer
After an hour
She texted
“I see!!”
“U see nothing” he was irritated
“This was a whole structured drama to get a hold of my child”
“Not true”
“Ur parents hate the idea of you marrying me, you care more about him anyway… it is better… if we”
“You don’t want to give me time to sort anything out” “You want to push things to a rushed negative outcome and blame it all on me”
“I am not… u can have Dhru this weekend” she said tearfully
“You have to give me time to navigate the mess in my family”
“You can have Dhru this weekend… I will pick him up Monday evening and return ur ring”
