Wow Mrunal’s upbringing really did a number on her 😔 the insecurity, the comparisons, the fears…she needs a big hug 🤗and some calm.

I hope she takes some time to think about everything that has happened. Atty was looking for her even before he knew abt her child. Once he found out, it is normal to want to test and confirm paternity.

I feel awful for Jaidrith. He just wants to belong somewhere 😭

Affirmation

The custodian was out so she had deposited her leys at the Amaltas maintenance office on the Friday and headed out

She had left all the furniture and most of the kitchen stuff except for the things she had bought over the years

This morning the custodian had texted her to ask when she was returning and if he could go in to do some toilet repairs, of the two that were not flushing properly

With her Chembur toilet being spooked she truly missed her Bandra ones in a moment on dark humor

Clogged is fine at least it is not spooked

“Tumee kadhi paratat aahat?” (when are u returning?)

He texted Thursday morning, she was dealing with daily evening meltdowns at home with Jaidrith wanting to “go back” to “watch his friends playing”

She explained to him that it will be “a while”

He had refused to eat dinner and had cried to sleep

Saturday was looming ahead she had to go to the Chembur DNA clinic with Jaidrith

She didn’t know what sort of test they would conduct on him

She stayed up way too long researching the topic

Her fear went through the roof as she imagined it being “his week” or “his weekend” and going over to pick him up and noticing Aatreya has fled town with Jaidrith

What if Mendy and Lynn pretend like they don’t know where

Thursday around Noon she took a deep breath and texted the custodian back

She saw a bunch of dots a bunch of times and then nothing for a couple of hours

She liked the evening security guard she did not like the custodian one bit

She wept upon seeing that

The custodian did not know that

Thursday night was particularly bad because of the sounds from the toilet, she held her p—until the sun came out

Jaidrith’s new hobby was to keep the wood door open a crack and peek out, there were two boys across the hallway, 7? And 5? Or 8? 6? Mrunal couldn’t tell

She didn’t want Jai to be ridiculed so she didn’t encourage introduction

She offered once but he vehemently declined

The mother across the hallway smiled nervously at her not knowing what was wrong with Jaidrith she heard lots of arguments between Mrunal and the boy, and heard how naughty he was but that was about it

The boys knew they were being spied on by a kid next door so their antics were amplified

Jaidrith chuckled and smiled secretly longing to join in

Saturday morning, Lynn texted her asking if she wanted to come by for breakfast

Mrunal had no interest in going over

She declined

Around 1 PM she had an appointment at the DNA Test Lab

She wore her contacts and sunglasses, they did have adiscreet entrance, but just like any store front in Mumbai there were a bunch of hangers on and riffraff in the area

Her body visibly shook with relief when she was told it was only a saliva test

She didn’t know what she was doing

Sameena did not support “buying off” any body

Sai knew Aatreya was the father, not by looking at his picture but because of what she had said early on during labor and delivery

The results would be known in 3 days she was told

Jaidrith was confused as to why he even needed a test

She bribed him with ice cream and explained it was a school check up thing

And later lied again to say it was an allergy test

She didn’t know if he was going to vanish with Dhru he was most likely going to

She cried as she drove home after the icecream

And napped all afternoon Jaidrith peeked through the crack and or read his anime comics the whole time

Her furniture would be her PAKKA Monday she was told

She hated everything about her life at this moment

Except her office she was working mindlessly over the weekends and night wearing her airpods just to stay sane and not be afraid of the paranormal activity

A plumber came by Sat evening and told here there was nothing wrong

She made her tea and sat by the floor to ceiling window and texted Mrs Gomes as she sipped her chai

“Is there a ghost?” she demanded

“No darling” she said

Lynn asked her if she wanted to come over for dinner

“I don’t even know you” Mrunal thought

And her Baba texted a loooooong paragraph about how sad he was and how he had hoped he could see her

She refused to take the bait and tell him where her new flat was

She had heard from Hemang that Amruta was “trying for a baby”

Like she even had to “try” Amruta had been her lead, in their early 20s in getting pregnant and terminating it

Wednesday morning rolled around and she got a text from the Lab with a pdf attachment

It said with 99.99% accuracy Aatreya Rao 33, resident of ----- Khar East was the father

Within an hour she got a text from him

“Thanks for taking the test” “This is Aatreya Rao”

She was dead on the inside by then

“Hmm” she said with her mouth dry

He saved her number “Mrunalini Ghatge” ☺️❤️

She saved his number as “Jaidrith’s” for first name and “—" for last name, her fingers shaking in the process 😭💔

So now how will Aattrey Rao take it further ?

I wish she overcomes her fear and thinks rationally. Considers Jai’s perspective before closing her doors on Atty.

She needs a hug. From being an unloved child to doing her best in being independent and raising a child alone for ten years. She has been courageous to soldier on.
