Jaisey Jaante Nahin: Part Three

[KT's flashback: 2 years ago]

Chham Chham...the sound of her anklets echoed in the now empty mandir. KT paced worriedly, all the while checking the entrance for that familiar sight of tousled hair and the lopsided grin she'd grown to love.

'Why wasn't he here yet?' she thought, pushing all negative thoughts out of her mind.

The summer heat was making her regret the decision to wear such a heavy joda. But he had bought it for her. Especially for this day. Their special day. The one where they would start their new life together as man and wife.

Dusk was settling in, and she realised with a feeling of panic, that night was fast approaching. She watched the sinking sun, praying for a miracle.

The pandit had long given up, and could now be found praying furiously, muttering nonsense about abshagun. KT hardly heard him, as her attention was focused on the entrance.

Sweating profusely, she kicked herself for leaving her mobile home, and also for not bringing along some deodorant. She did NOT want to get married smelling as she did.

The PCO sign flashed before her, and she ran down to it, and dialled his number.
No answer.
She tried again.
No answer.
She tried yet again.
Someone picked up!...They then hung up.
Confused, she started punching the number in again, when she caught sight of Raghu kaka walking up the steps. Running up the steps, she caught up to him, almost tripping on her red dupatta.

Raghu kaka looked at her with tears running down his cheeks, handed her a letter and managing to choke out, "It's from him".
KT felt her heart sink.

As she opened the letter with trembling hands, she saw the handwriting. Tears started to pour onto it, even before she had started reading…

A man walking up the steps saw the body of KT collapse on the floor, crying hysterically and waving a letter around. He hurried up, and snatched the letter from her shaking hands and read it aloud.

"KT, sometimes in life we are given a choice that decides our fate. I also am facing that situation as here I stand, on the crossroads of my life.

On one hand, I see your smiling face and yet on the other, I see the woman I owe my life to.

I have made the choice KT.

I have chosen to walk away from you.

-Lakshya"

Ripping apart the letter, the man threw its pieces away. Away from the crying KT. Away from the holy mandir. Away from his life. Hatred for Lakshya now at its pinnacle.

He looked up to see the pandit running down, ranting on about something. All he heard was, "abshagun! If she does not get married by tonight! it will be Abshagun!!"

"That is it", he decided. Grabbing KT by the hand, he dragged her towards the agni.
"KT! I will marry you!" he told a now frenetic KT who didn't seem to hear him and continued to yell out Lakshya's name in vain.
"KT!!!" the man yelled again, with KT not willing to listen.

In the end, he reached out for the kumkum lying next to the agni, and filled her maang.

KT stopped stobbing. It finally registered.

Shocked, she now stood looking into the eyes of the man, who was now her husband. Behind him, she saw the sun emit its last rays of sunshine before disappearing into the blackness of the night...

Ok guys! that was it for part 3!! hope the reason for the hatred KT holds for Lakshya is clear now...😃 i tried to make it all sound good...but i've been out of touch with good vocab for a LONG tym now...so u have to excuse my poor vocab😳😆
