Pricing a part
He showed up for dinner almost after 45 minutes, the food hadn’t arrived yet
There was tons of appys and drinks
Parashars wandered the world with a fully stocked kitchen and chefs she assumed
“We have Mr Bagga’s word so we can have him take 50 units, I will reach out to Mr Ranade, he can take 15” Satyen looked up from his phone at Rakshit
Father and son were talking about which large independent farms were going to do some testing of the new Caterpillar multibalers (the joint venture was finally gearing towards production), large farm equipment that would cut and tie out bales of hay
“We cannot have them return test data any later than June 1st, we have the pre manufacturing meeting on 15th, the Procurement teams wants the entire BOM reviewed and certified before August
“To theek hai aap keh do jab aap prototype bhejo to”
“Its going to take a few days to move 50 units to Patiala and Bhatinda and wherever Dad”
“Abhi koi aur to hai nahi protype testing ke liye, Raanav ne kaha there isn’t enough time to draft a full blown agreement and indemnity and all that, General Counsel of our company agrees with Raanav, yeh bas good faith mein hai, bhej do”
“I can I have no problem I just want to make sure if its going on NH8 or NH10 we need to dismantle parts of it”
These were ginormous and really expensive farm toys that needed to be carefully assembled and disassembled
“So we don’t charge them a dime?” Rakshit looked up from his laptop
“Prototype sample pricing I don’t know…” satyen rubbed his eyes “I think Caterpillar has a recommendation based on geography” “I cant recall” satyen yawned and turned to look at Viveka
Smrita was missing so Viveka texted with Piyush Varsha and Harsha white also texting with her friends
“Ask the economist in the house how she would approach charging a customer for a yet to be launched product”
Economist word triggered Viveka to lift her head up and smile
“I am not an MBA or a Pricing expert” she laughed
“Numbers to numbers hai beta”
Rakshit obediently walked towards her with his macbook
They zipped thru it in the next hourish until dinner was served
Satyen snoozed until Smrita appeared
“Where is the baby of the house?” she demanded
“Biwi baithin hain saamne aap baat karo” Satyen encouraged Smrita to talk to Viveka as usual
“Maybe she wont know” Smrita smiled in an affected way
“chaliye acchha hai aapko apne married bache ke baare mein pata hai unki biwi ko nahi” he laughed
Viveka looked up from Rakshit’s computer and laughed
“He is here Dad”
“Yeh lo!” he extended a hand in her direction “SHE knows” he mocked his wife
“Is he jet lagged?” Smrita made a face
“No” she smiled mischievously
“Wife has had a great day why will he be” satyen had no idea
“You are right” Viveka fake agreed with her FIL
Raanav appeared with wet but neatly parted and combed hair, and in his freebie from modeling days olive green shirt and khakhis
They looked at each other and she looked away clearing her throat and refocusing on the reading material Rakshit gave her
“U did get the job” he walked over to whisper in her ear”
“Actually…. I did NOT” she turned to whisper in his shave foam scented ear canal
“CAP!” he argued
“Secret password exchange” Satyen mocked
Raanav didn’t respond
“How was ur trip darling” Smrita screeched
He walked over to hug her
Satyen went back to some glossy brochures someone from the marketing communications team had put together for a farm equipment trade show that was going to happen soon
Father and son ignored each other
“That’s fine u haven’t priced farm equipment before”
“Ignition switch, coil, spark plug” Viveka exclaimed…. “None of it sounds exciting sorry”
Rakshit laughed out loud
“I think I may have found a topic you and lekha could become best friends over”
“farm equipment?”
“Yes, bill of materials of everything we make in PEI”
Raanav returned to sit by Viveka
The food was great, Smrita incessantly questioned Raanav about London asking the most inane questions so Raanav would not talk to Viveka
Forgetting they were married and could get their privacy whenever they chose
Its another matter neither was interested in running away and having hot and heavy s—
Correction… both were, but they both had to prove a point
He wanted to insinuate that she was deliberately obliging his Dad
She had to tell him off that she had no interest in working for PEI
“So? How did she do?”
“great” rakshit laughed quickly
“Wonderful”
“He is lying, I sucked at it he finally started building it on his own”
“We have a whole pricing team beta, I should have asked you to sit with them first” Satyen spoke thoughtfully
“That’s OK the components are not very exciting” she said with a shocked expression
“Oh well the company makes billions in profits” Smrita scolded her
“Hyperbole Mum” rakshit laughed
“It’s a successful company” Smrita continued to scold
“U should stick around and train here if you want” Satyen offered
Raanav stopped eating… waiting for her answer
“I will think about it… Dad thanks sooo much that sounds really exciting… cant believe it” she said mischievously, checking out Smrita’s expression with a side eye
Fully intending to trigger her husband and MIL
She was sputtering, this middle class girl has finally landed a plum part in MY company… I mean… she did it, this is was her price from early on
Smrita seethed
Viveka’s husband?
“There we go!” he whispered
