“I have invited them over for dinner on Saturday night, can you please be home” Satyen was firm yet friendly
“Arey I have to go to Mrs Rawal’s you said you cannot go I cant keep declining, they look up to us, Satya”
“Umm.. that’s OK, I can ask Prakash if we can do this after a month, after Diwali”
Smrita was irritated
She knew going to Mathurs meant the wedding was around the corner
She did not know what Raanav had said to Satya when they flew down to Singapore first and then Aurangabad for 2 weeks altogether
There was no way to monitor or separate them
She had done her bit by reaching out to Viveka one time
What more could she do?
“Satya you have been gone two weeks in a row lets just go hang with friends, phir shaadi ka kaam shuru hoga”
She texted furiously pausing her personal trainer
“I already told Akashji” he said
She called him angrily
He did not answer, declined it with a “cant talk right now”
She let her personal trainers go and paced the home gym agitatedly
After having her healthy smoothie she calmed down and walked the front lawn, she called Raanav
“Hey how are you love”
“I am good Ma”
“Ma?”
“Yeah?” he laughed
“MA kab se kehne lage”
“I say it all the time”
That word reminded her of Viveka
She didn’t want that reminder
Thought everything about Raanav reminded her of Viveka
“Umm.. Dad se baat ki?”
“about what?”
“He wants to go meet the Mathurs”
“I thought he was inviting them over for dinner Saturday night”
She scowled inaudibly
“so he knew so use lying to him
“Umm.. sorry, real busy this morning”
“I hear the sprinklers in the back are you home?” he quizzed
“I am heading out in 10 minutes, he is wiping the car down he knows how I hate water stains”
“Ah”
“Umm.. will you be home Saturday?”
“YEAH!!” he laughed
“Viveka bhi aa rahi hai?”
“I am in the process of bribing her” he laughed
“Didn’t you have to go on that day trip with your friends?”
“I pushed it out”
“OK… great”
“Did you plan to be home?” he asked quietly
“Dad has said I need to be” she gently expressed her irritation with Satya
If it was old times Raanav would have immediately sided with her
“Awesome” he said preoccupied
“Busy ho”
“Yeah Dad anD I are headed to meet with the FiberTek guy”
“Tumhare saath hain Dad?”
“Do u want to talk?” Raanav attempted to walk towards Satyen room in the penthouse suite
“Oh no… oh no… that’s fine” she mumbled
“See you Friday night Ma… MOM!!” he laughed
“Are you really serious about this girl?” she asked
How could she let him hang up?
“Seriouly!!
The more meetings and events she participated in, the more times she met with the Mathurs the more things would inch closer
She would deal with Satya’s wrath later
“Yes I am”
“Tumhe usme kya baat achhi lagti hai?” “Batao” she laughed trying not to express her unhappiness
“Umm.. her conviction and love for her subject, and the deep way she thinks about how she can work in the grass roots level”
“U are not interviewing her for a job”
“Hahahaha… sorry… I think she is damn hot, she gives it back to me, she acts like I am the only man she has ever loved and will ever love?”
“Great great” “She is very smart” Smrita regretted asking
Is there seriously no way of causing a rift between the two?”
“I thought you loved girls like Lekha”
“Well.. I obviously don’t”
“Kaun hai beta?” Satyen enquired entering the room
“Mom” he said
“The car is ready I have to leave, I LOVE you more than you know”
“I know” he chuckled
“I spoke with Rakshu this morning he said he couldn’t get a hold of you so please call him”
“Will do Mom” he laughed
“Do mujhe” Satyen requested
“Kya chal raha hai?” Smrita tried to be chirpy
“Yeh to kaafi busy hain apni maashooqa se baatein karne mein, hamey laga hum APNI waali se baat kar lein”
“Who is he talking to?” Smrita pretended not to get it
“Seriously? Tum Urdu bhool gayi?”
“Oh Viveka? Hah…”
“I think ya to Rakshu ke saath hi ya uske immediately baad karni padegi shaadi”
Satyen promised
“Lets just meet them right?” she played along carefully
“He wants a simple wedding at a temple or something”
She wanted to throw the phone down and stomp on it
She sucked her breath in and swallowed composing herself
“He is funny”
“Mazaak nahi, he says he is fine, we can throw a party in the front lawn in Spring or Summer”
“No way” she laughed thru grit teeth
“He is going to be in and out Smri, Singapore Oslo, Aurangabad”
“Rakshu can find time for a big wedding so can he”
“Iska matlab tum maan gayi shaadi ke liye” he mocked her soundly
“I want my babies to be happy” she cooed
“Ah”
“At this moment he wants Viveka” she stressed
“Its all about the moment huh?” he chuckled shaking his head
He knew what she was up to, he wasn’t about to bust her… yet
“I am sure we can train her” emboldened by Satyen’s lack of response Smrita kept at it
“Dhoondi aapne koi dog grooming school?” he laughed
“Oh please I am not a uncaring person. I will do my best to help her” she completely sidestepped Satyen’s point and focused on “how much she cared”
“As long as you don’t accompany them on their honeymoon insisting on teaching her” he laughed out loud
“How can he go on honeymoon if he has no time for a big wedding?”
“He wants to bring her to Oslo”
“Oh? Umm”
Dang it!!
“I will call you when we check in… love you” Satyen stared at his phone while ending the call on his son’s phone
