I am trying to cling on to some hope here. Some corner,I'm thinking who wouldn't want their parents to be a part of their engagement. Isn't it? Look at Tapan. He is surrounded by his folks. So much laughter, fun and teasing. His brother is a big time cribber, nevereless he's there isn't he?

I mean Tara is who she is. She too wants happiness for Shubhra. But her meaning of happiness is associated with luxury. Of course she wants that for shubhra.

She's at the gate. She has feelings too that her daughter doesn't share stuff . But I'm hoping that she doesn't throw a fit the Tara kind. And she has at least mixed feelings about her daughter's engagement. Today is a big day in her daughter's life and She is after all a mother.

Fingers crossed.....I too hope for same.

Once Tara figures out that she can actually gloat about Tapan to her friends, she will support this relationship. Tapan is good looking, came from US. She will find a way to build that up.

Prayed and preying

Bauji and Amma were asleep, having a snoring competition. Parul was asleep in Arya's room. Vyas had taken the kids down for ice cream

Gagan slept in the master bedroom on a side cot with his parents with the AC blasting in every room

The not so newly weds "went inside" to "their" room

Nitin made it a point to stress to Tapan that he shouldnt even think about using that room while Kusum and him were here... ALL jokingly of course

the young couple sat on the couch flipping through TV channels

Shubhra had experienced the best 24 hours of her life, she was not religious she had never prayed or fasted or sang or chanted

But this man had walked into her life and consumed it

She had a family that adored her, a man she was crazy about.

She thought of herself as a weepy self loathing hysteric, but this man had managed to change her perception of the world and had magically transformed her image of her own self...

when Tara knocked on the door

When Tapan got up and opened the door casually assuming it was Vyas Bhayya he was absolutely shocked to find Tara

She had no resemblance to Shubhra, she looked like she was 40 instead of the 62 she actually was

"Hello?"

"Is Shubhra here?" she asked pushing her aviators up her head casually

"Oh? she is" he said politely suddenly stiffening, not opening the door

He was a little more relaxed since family knew about the engagement

He had even let go of security until it was time to go back

He peered the hallway forgetting that

"Are you looking for someone?"

"Yes family" he said thinking abt Vyas

"Can I talk to Shubhra?"

"she is resting"

tapan didnt give a damn

"I can HEAR her on the phone" Tara shreiked as Shubhra chatted with a friend

"Keep your voice down please" Tapan grit his teeth "Otherwise I am calling the cops" he whispered

"I need to talk to her" Tara was a little flustered

Her gorgeous looks assured her of speechless attention

"Come on in... and PLEASE be quiet. Your husband's goons have criminally assaulted my BIL and he just made it home from the hospital, in case he left out that piece of news" Tapan was unapologetic

Tara looked at him like he was crazy

"Do you even know WHO you are accusing?"

"Sure do... my soon to be wife's mother" he slammed the door shut

Shubhra jumped off the couch in panic.

Tara was furious

They both had a bunch of teeka on their forehead the house looked like a pooja had ended recently there was even dying embers and smoke from a havan close to the balcony

Her daughter actually looked nice she noticed

Parul had given her "shagun ki chhodiyan"in green and red typical Up style

AND Shubhra was wearing them

No greys no blacks...

Dang it!

"Do you care for your family?" Tara asked dramatically raising her voice

"Shushh!" tapan went up to her and warned

"Do you?" Tara charged towards her

"What do u want me to say?" Shubhra spoke with her calmness

"You are SO shameless and uncaring... your Dad has been LOOKINg for you I HAVE BEEN"

Of course Tara never does nothing for no one... if she went looking Shubhra better grovel

Shubhra looked at Tapan nervously

"she is here and she is fine"

"Chalo ghar abhi ke abvhi" Tara waved a finger inches from her

"No I cant"

"SHAADI KAR LI?" Tara was LOUD

Parul stumbled out of Arya's room in shock and froze when she saw how gorgeous Tara was

"No mother!! I am 31 though I am not sure WHY the f--- should you care even if I did" "I am engaged tho" Shubhra waved her rock, tapping it with her right hand

"Of course you are... after all you put Dad and I through so much... umm" Tara tried to be polite... s"SO MUCH S---"

"Ma... please aaj rakhi hai"

"YOU have two brothers... studying over seaes" Tara mocked

"Jaanti hoon I already shipped it to them... we dont do anything at home... these nice people invited me over" she was tearful

Tapan was furious when she refered to his family as doing charity toward her

"We are getting married this is your f----g home Shubhra" he was direct

"He is so uncivilized" Tara huffed "Are you his WIFE?" tara accused Parul

"Hello I am his sister I am surprised you refuse to see the resemblance, I am older and married to another man" "Aap paani lenge?" arul offered politely

"No I have water in my car I came to get my daughter"

"she cant go.. we are having friends over to celebrate Gagan's return from teh hospital, I mean sorry he was hurt in an accident"

"She knows... her husband ordered it so she knows" Tapan spoke coolly

"You are just assuming that... to prey on wealthy families"

"I would say get out but I wont... talk to her and leave"

Nitin came out and stared unapologetically

Hmmm I knew Tara won't change do fast and easily

Very sad shub must be embarrassed by her mother a d she is gonna feel guilty again

Hope they just get married and put all this mess behind

She needs a clean break for sometime. Once things cool off shub can reconcile if she wants

Tara thinks Shubhra has such little respect for herself that she will get involved with a married man. How about building up that self respect for once?

Glad Tara noticed that Shubhra was actually looking nice. She felt like dressing up a bit since someone was there to appreciate it rather than put her down.

Fair tussle I would say. Tapan stood his ground and so did Tara. Now that she knows her daughter is engaged and seemingly happy, hope she reflects on it a bit as she makes her way back. I'm not expecting Tara to embrace or hug or feel fully happy for her, just a grudging recognition that her daughter has a new status is good enough for me. No parent is going to like walking in uninvited to find her daughter engaged.
