This hit him like a ton of bricks, he knew he irritated her as she did to him, and that they probably despised each other, but she wanted him dead? Though this thought pierced his mind, he forced his face into a mask devoid of emotions. He nodded curtly,

'Very well, Good evening Madam.' And with that he stormed out.

'So you have a doctorate in Pharmacology?'

They were sitting in a coffee shop, getting along quite well with each other.

'Yes. It is really interesting you know, as everyone says that girls can't go far. I was the first girl from our college with a degree in Pharmacology.

'Must be interesting.' He smiled and looked at the watch, then jumped up. 'Oh, look at the time! I have to go, otherwise I would be late.'

'Oh.' She said.

'I- I-m sorry. Its just that well, I'm err.. in the army.' Her eyebrows rose up appreciatively.

'Really?' she seemed fascinated.

'Yes,' he replied, 'and I well.. can't be late for a session. But I'll meet you here tomorrow, same time, what say?'

'I say yes. It sure sounds like fun.'

'Of course. And I'm sorry, your name is? She smiled at his nervousness.

'Maia. Dr. Maia Parashar.'

Nice to meet you, Maia. I'm Captain Sharma. Captain Alekh Sharma.'

Long after she had left, he still sat there recapping their meeting, the way she smiled showing her perfect white teeth, and the sadness in her eyes which somehow managed to disappear when they started talking. 'Maia.' He said to himself, rolling over her name again and again over on his tongue. 'You have a beautiful name' , he whispered.

He didn't even look at where he was going, until he reached a roadside bench and sat down. And as he did, memories of what she had said came running back to her.

'Major. I'm no longer your cadet, Captain.'

'No,' she said nonchalantly. 'But I'm your superior.

'No you weren't. My teacher, Rajveer sir, is dead.'

'Yes, he is. He was nice, friendly, strong and compassionate. But then again, he didn't last long before he went behind a faade of a sneering and unworthy professor. Now if you will, can we stop this banter?'

'Your new posting is in the Bulandshahr, Captain. I expect you to be there at the first of next month.'

'You know, you could be nice if you wanted to.' She said, eventually.

'You know,' she said in a voice of forced calm, 'I wish that you would drop dead right now.'

God, how he hated that girl. He despised everything about her, right from the way she dressed to the way she walked. Her cheekiness and the way she had literally jumped through the army were equally irksome. He hated calling her Madam, and he hated showing even one ounce of respect towards his former student. Most of all, he hated the way she said 'Captain.' It reminded him strongly of her.

'Raj?'

'Hmm?' he murmured, as he buried his face in her hair.

'Have I told you today how much I love you?'

'Hmm.. let me think. Maybe once or twice.' He whispered silently as she giggled.

'I really do love you.'

'And I you.' He replied.

'Do you think we can stay like this forever?'

'I don't see why not.' She giggled before breaking away and preparing for class.

'Don't go today. Please, stay with me.' he whined.

She smiled, 'I have to, baby, but I'll be back soon. I promise.' And she blew a kiss to him.

'Ritu?'

She turned back smiling, raising a playful eyebrow, as he went forward to catch her swing her around. She giggled deeply as he started kissing her neck fervently. They both closed their eyes, taking deep breaths, thinking about how they really loved each other, before slowly falling back in bed.

Neither of them made it to class that day.

He didn't want those memories anymore, he thought bitterly. And he hated how she strongly reminded him of her with the same attitude, the same confidence and the same way they both said 'Captain.' Furious, he kicked the roadside stone and powdered it with his fist until his hand started aching badly.

'I love you Ritu.' He whispered despairingly to the dark horizon, 'Please come back to me.'

Not being able to control himself, he hit her again with the backside of his hand, his metal ring clinking against her teeth. She didn't even have a chance to react before the cool metal clashed against her skin, knocking off a molar.
