🎶🎵Tribute to Lata Mangeshkar on Her 96th Birth Anniversary🎵🎶
She was frustrated, as she sat in her car waiting for the Mumbai traffic to die down. Every minute passed with her looking down at her watch anxiously, but she knew that she would be late. 'Stupid conference' , she thought angrily,' and that too on a Sunday morning.' She was furious at her husband for sending her to these damn conferences, while he could go fool around with her so-called best friend. He thought she didn't know about all that, but she did. They had been in love once, and had gotten married as soon as they were eighteen. But then everything fell apart a year later. She was still young, yes, but she couldn't divorce him. And he had been cheating on her for God knows how many years. And she didn't have a say in all this either. He had a terrible temper and she certainly didn't want to mess up with him for any reason.
As if in a trance, she realized simultaneously that she had reached the desired building and that her hair was messed up. Picking a pen, she tried to put her hair up in a messy bun as she collided with someone.
'I'm so sorry.' She gushed out, wanting to apologize more, but stopped at the sight of the young man. He was her age, she thought, and definitely not bad looking.
'Not to worry.' He flashed her a cheesy grin, and she smiled as well and started to turn back.
'Excuse me---'
'Yes?" she turned back, facing him again.
'I was wondering, if you don't mind of course,' she smiled as she watched him stutter, 'would you like to get a cup of coffee?'
Looking back at the building and thinking that she didn't give a damn about the conference, she smiled and said 'Sure.'
'Great.' he replied, relieved. 'Ummm.. want to go?'
She smiled as she walked beside him down the stairs.

They sat like that for a long time, before she realized that his arm was still around her, and he was lost in some kind of a trance.
'E-Excuse me, Captain?' she asked softly, not wanting to disturb him.
He didn't reply.
'Captain?' she asked, a bit louder this time.
Again, no reply.
'Captain?" this time her voice was a bit loud, and he jerked awake and jumped up, causing her to startle as well. Then he noticed that his hand was still around her shoulders, and he suddenly took them off as if he was contaminated. Both of them didn't know what to say for a few minutes before she cleared her throat, and he looked at her enquiringly,
'Umm.. Thanks. Uh.. Captain for um.. uh.. the. . err.. comfort.'
As she looked at him, she could see thousand different emotions flicker past his eyes, and briefly wondered what it was that he had kept bottled up for five years. But then, when she looked up at him again, he had put up his walls, and his eyes had become emotionless.
'I did what I thought might be right.' He grunted out.
She smiled and shook her head. 'Yeah, well still thank you Captain.'
'Yes, but don't expect it again.'
She was surprised at his sudden coldness.
'Pardon?'
'You heard me. Don't except such 'kindness' again.' He sneered contemptuously.
'Oh, so now you think you're doing me a favor?' she nearly shouted. His composure, however, was very calm, even if he didn't reply.
'What, what do you think of yourself, Captain?'
'An Army Captain.' He replied, slightly amused that he had twisted her words.
'You listen here, Captain, I do not want any favors from anyone especially from you. I actually thought for a moment that you can genuinely be nice.'
'Well, you thought wrong, didn't you? So tell me, my dear Madam, how does it feel to be wrong for the first time in your life?'
'You know,' she said in a voice of forced calm, 'I wish that you would drop dead right now.'

'Raj?'
'Hmm?' he murmured, as he buried his face in her hair.
'Have I told you today how much I love you?'
'Hmm.. let me think. Maybe once or twice.' He whispered silently as she giggled.
'I really do love you.'
'And I you.' He replied.
