The most poignant part of the chapter for me was Ajji prodding her if she felt lonely at times.

And sam's reply to that seemed an unconvincing one at that for now. But to be fair... it's her life... Each to her/ his own.

Choice comes with a cost one way or the other. She cannot possibly ask him ... hey... why weren't you home when I landed up after checking with you... because the risk is he coukd brush it away saying oh! Something priority came up!!

Just like how she did not have expectations while starting having sex, they would be well served if there are no questions asked of each other for it to work the way then intend to at least for now

She texted him later that night

"Can you tell me when you are not going to be home, I showed up and found the house locked😡

They both waited for the other person to say

He didn't see the text until later that evening, he had a qrtrly review of his books at the accountants so on Wed morning at 5 he texted her

"I have a meeting at 7 sorry

"Its fine if u don't want to meet anymore she bit back promptly

"I just went back and read what I sent, I doubt I sent what you are saying he said "U shud read it again he snapped

"Just seems like you are really busy

"I am he said

They went into deep freeze for a week

He texted her Friday evening when Netflix watching plan with friends was shelved

She didn't respond as she was on a dinner date with Mervyn and his GF

"Just saw this she said when she returned at midnite

Saturday morning out of sheer desperation and physical hunger she gave up her pride and showed up at 7

Toast was dancing on one, two, three legs, like a mad dog

She froze outside the door until he dragged the dog by the collar and shushed him, in a pink tee and a shoe string maxi in red floral and kolhapuri chappal and part of her hair in a top knot as usual

He opened the door and leaned on the wall beside it, one leg up, she leaned on the back of the couch

Hands tucked in his pocket still groggy

"U are home she said pointedly

"Looks like it he said gruffly

"What about now? she texted on her cheap phone staring at him

He heard that text ping by the bed

He went in and got his phone and leaned back on the wall

"For what?? he asked

"I am just testing to see how long it takes you to get my messages she texted accusingly

"So offer withdrawn? he had a one track mind

She found herself blushing intensely as her chest pounded at the flirtatious back and forth

She pretended to text but didn't just stared at the tiny screen with flaming cheeks moving her thumbs pretentiously

He walked over grabbed her phone and threw it on the couch, and put his hands on her rib cage and lifted her as she started thrashing, tried to kiss her, necking her as she dodged his rough whiskers scoring her neck and cheek

"Aveee she scowled

"We both loved it... and are equally good at it Samidha! GAME OVER"

he was too aroused to fight right now

(it was a thrilling game of cat and mouse... the cat gets the mouse now and the mouse gets the cheese, so everybody wins... alright?)

He undid the shoe strings on her shoulder as he set her on the bed, with not much curves to latch on to the maxi fell flaccidly

Her skimpy tee not even covering her rib cage he just put his hand underneath and grabbed a braless curve and climbed over her

She shuddered arching...

He yanked her teeshirt off and opened his mouth on a mound suckled noisily and felt her pulsate in uncontrollable pleasure

Ground rules & Window escapes

The dog imprisoned her as usual when she woke from being deliciously knocked out

The house was quiet, she was terrified he left her there with the dog in charge, no clothes and humans in sight

When she stirred, he climbed on to the bed and she screamed

"Samidhaaa he came running

"HES IN BED "ON she sat up pulling the covers furiously

"Down... boy he ordered casually

T: "Hey I was just trying to be nice, you weren't around, I assumed she might want to cuddle so

"She doesn't want to cuddle he said

"My clothes she whispered

"Oh? I put them in the closet he said casually

Great! She thought, now his things and hers, all together like a happy family

She was achy and sore down there, not to mention all over

"What time is it?

"Umm.. he didn't have his phone, he turned the bedside clock toward him "Almost Noon

She shook her head and tried to get off the bed

"I am going for a run, do u want to go?

"NOOO she looked at him like "Are u crazy? "I feel like Ive been trampled on by Toast

"Umm.. no she mumbled

"Are u tired? he sat by her

"No... just sore she whispered

He gently caressed her cheek with the back of his hand

"I am sorry

"Umm... its OK... it was... it has been over two weeks.. so I guess we both went crazy she whispered

He chuckled audibly

She sat by him huddled in a green sheet like a giant olive

"Do u want to go take a shower? That might help he offered

In the shower... naked in his house... she felt that familiar ache as she imagined him with her in there

"I have taken too much time off, I have to go to work she complained

"Before that, do u want to talk about when we can see each other regularly, so I don't end up bruising you (like this morning?) if we see each other after weeks

"I answer my text when I see it she said defensively

"And so do I he agreed

"I wasn't playing games

"I don't believe that he said bluntly

"We can stop if u think I am not being honest

"I don't want to stop, I want us to meet everyday he growled

OMG! I WOULD LOVE THAT...

"Not everyday... I cant be here everyday she said primly

"I can come pick you up he said smugly

That went against every rule of "hooking up she had in her mind

"Lets just agree on being responsive to texts? she begged

"That's a good idea he nodded

T: So? She is going to stay here for ever correct?

"I don't think so he muttered petting him

Toast sniffed her sheets

"Stop it she ordered taking a leaf out of his playbook

T:DID SHE JUST BOSS ME?

"I think so Avyaan said getting up

"U stay if u like we have a Game of Thrones party he said

That sounded like fun, everything about him was casual breezy and laid back, he was aggressive and passionate in bed but the exact opposite in real life

"Can I come back tomorrow? she asked

"I would love that he said

She showered in that grey quartz, chrome bathroom

Toast waited for her when she came out

T:Just making sure you didn't escape from the window

She froze by the door until he came by to drag the dog away

She ate the eggs and toast he made and took the auto he hailed

She wnt back home and thought about him and the sex the rest of Saturday, counted hours until Sunday morning, imagined him chilling with his friends on the couch laughing and commenting loudly

He made her feel hot and desirable

She didn't feel like she was flat as a pancake, he told her he didn't like her wearing perfume between her boobs

"I don't like the taste he told her possessively

"I don't think you are small, quit trying to stop me from holding you he warned

He held her like he will never let her go

They had nothing in common, not physical size, not culture not language but he made her feel heady and intoxicated

She decided she was going to hook up with him everyday she can... for the rest of her life

Wow ... was waiting for this twist/turn. She slept till noon on his bed, realized the clothes were in his closet, took the offer to shower in his bathroom (omg she must have used his towel too) , and ate breakfast at his place.

Breaking most of her rules ...

True... rules are not cast in stone right?!!!! Actually the game started turning on its head when she commanded the dog. And as for the game of cat mouse and cheese... as long as the cat is not twisting to chase and catch it's own tail it's good.

Ah!! But who's the cat and who's the mouse here... I'm very clear on the cheese part though 😊
