Part 11

Raj: I am leaving in half hour. I'll leave the driver here. You can come whenever you are ready.

Naina: that's all you want t o say?

Raj went over to the table and picked up something.

Naina: what's this?

Raj: a morning after pill. I don't want there to be any unwanted consequences of last nights mistake

Raj handed her a glass of water but she pushed it away.

Naina: so we are going to ignore that last night happened?

Raj: no. You are right. It's stupid of me to wish it away. So let me do the right thing. I am sorry from the bottom of my heart. Last night I proved that all your accusations were correct. I had one drink and began lusting after you. The only thing I remember from last night is throwing myself at you and then waking up next to you this morning.

Did I force myself on you? Did you feel violated?

Naina: Don't say that... you were so gentle...

Raj: Naina it's not about physical force. I put you in a difficult spot emotionally and mentally last night by throwing myself on you. I forgot that you are Abhis Naina

Naina wanted to correct him by saying that she was his Naina. But she knew he wasn't in the right frame of mind

Naina: I am Naina. Not Abhis Naina.

Raj: you know what I mean! Anyways let's end this conversation here. This suite is suffocating me! When I look at that bed, those sheets I feel like burning them down. I wish I could erase last night forever.

Raj looked at Naina and misunderstood the tears streaming down her face.

Raj: and I am sure you wish the same.

Saying this he walked away, leaving behind a completely broken Naina.

By the time Naina got home; Raj had left for meetings at HQ. he didn't pick his phone the whole day and when he got back mana was clinging to him!

Mana: Papa no go!

Naina: Mana Baby papas not going anywhere.

Raj: See I am here. I'll sit till my rockstar goes to sleep.

After mana was a sleep Raj asked Naina to come to his room.

Naina: you are going somewhere aren't you? I saw it in your face when mana was crying

How long?

Raj: it's a secret mission. But I should be back in a month. But I won't be able to call home etc.

Naina: you know how hard that will be on me... I mean mana. At least call once a week. She gets really upset when you are not around. Did you see how clingy she was today?

Raj: I promise I'll be back in a month.

She knew this was deliberate. He was completely avoiding her. For the next few weeks she couldn't get through to him.

But she knew he'd keep his promise. For Mana's sake.

She was right. He looked haggard both physically and mentally. But the moment he took mana in his arms he was back to his usual self. Naina was glad that Raj had such an intense love for mana. That was the only think keeping Raj in her life.

Mana was concerned that her beloved father would go away and kept clinging to him.

Finally when mana was asleep the adults Sat down to dinner

Naina excused herself and walked away. Niharika left shortly after.

Kunal: What happened between you and naina?

Don't pretend that nothing happened.

She collapsed last week.

Raj: what? Did she see the doctor.

Kunal: We took her to the hospital. She was supposed to get her results today. But she hasn't said anything to either me or Niharika.

Raj: I'll talk to her

Raj went to nainas room and knocked. When she didn't respond, he gently pushed it open and found Naina crying with her face in her hands.

He immediately went and sat next to her.

Raj: what's wrong?

Naina: I made a huge mistake. Remember the night of our anniversary? You told me to take the morning after pill. I was very stressed with you leaving and it slipped my mind.

Raj: you scared me! As if that's a problem! The chances of you getting pregnant from that night are so low...

Naina: I am pregnant. 5 weeks as of today

Rajs heart and mind were in conflict. His heart was dancing with joy; but his mind was concerned about nainas feelings and reaction

He walked away to process his emotions
Naina: I have seen that behavior before. Abhi behaved just like that before he asked me to consider an abortion.

If that's what you are going to suggest...

Raj; I wouldn't dream of suggesting that. Unless you want one...

Naina: why would I do that?!

Raj: because I forced you that night.

Naina: how hard is it Raj?!?! You didn't force me. You were drunk but I was in my senses. If anything I encouraged you to go all the way.

Naina burst into tears again. Raj came to her and embraced her.

Naina (in between sobs): but why should you care? You went away. You have been punishing me for months and now you don't even want this baby...And you don't love me any more

Raj: Shh... I can never stop loving you.Yes you hurt me with your words. But I took the whole thing too far and I am genuinely sorry.

As for this baby...

He paused and placed his hands on nainas still flat stomach.

Raj: I adore him or her and can't wait for the day I'll have him or her in my hands

And suddenly they were interrupted by a voice

"Papa! Mana want papa! Mana want papa!

They looked down and found ms mana holding on to rajs feet

Raj: Did you hear mana? You will be a big sister soon.

He picked her up and hugged her.

Naina: Raj, can we avoid telling other people? I don't want to take any chances... in case I miscarry or lose the baby

Raj: nothing like that will happen... but ok as you say.

Raj was her rock in the first trimester which wasn't easy. She had a lot of morning sickness and felt a lot of weakness. But he tolerated all her mood swings and also took great care of mana

She kept looking for the right time to tell Raj her feelings. But it was not easy. Raj was still uneasy and unsure around her even though he was a devoted father to mana and their unborn child.

But she didn't have much to complain. Thanks to rajs support she was practicing as a lawyer finally and was enjoying happiness on both the professional and personal fronts. One day after a court hearing she decided to catch up with her friend Shefali who was her senior in law school. She had reached out to her when she was considering divorcing Abhi before his death.

As she was about to enter Shefali's chambers she heard a familiar voice

Raj: thanks shef for your counsel. I had called you at a time when I was very disturbed about your relation with Naina. I am glad you helped me realize that divorce was not the right thing for us...

Naina: amazing Raj! Just amazing! You approach my friend to act as your divorce lawyer

Shefali: Naina you are misunderstanding the situation

Naina: really shef?

Raj: Naina.

Naina: don't say a word Raj. You made this call when you were on mission right? You didn't have time to call me or even mana but you had time to call a divorce lawyer. Talk about priorities

Naina left the room and Raj ran after her. She asked the driver to give the car keys and drove off before Raj could intervene.

Raj was worried sick. Naina finally came home late at night.

Raj: have dinner first. Everything else can come later.

Naina: what changed your decision to leave me

I have spent the last 6 hours thinking about it. The major thing that's changed is that I am pregnant. But that didn't make sense. My mind kept telling me that even earlier we had mana. Then in the last hour when I was driving home I remembered your conversation with dad

Raj: which conversation?

Naina: I remember you seeing something to the effect

"I didn't even realize my life was incomplete. I had wonderful parents, Naina, mana and suddenly this realization hit me. With this baby I'll finally have one person in this world who is my flesh and blood

You said that didn't you?

Raj: I did but...

Naina: and that's when it struck me. This baby I special for you. I mean you love mana but at the end of the day she is your stepdaughter. Not your own.

Raj tried stopping her but Naina was on her own trip.

Naina: I mean one can love their step child and you certainly love mana. But not as much as a biological child. Mana is your first step child but this unborn baby is your first biological child. And mana is obviously Number 2!

I should prepare my baby for this. Where's mana?

Naina went to manas room. Raj followed her to prevent her from upsetting Mana.

Naina: Mana Baby come here. How much does mana love mummy?

Mana: mana love mummy 100!

100 was manas upper limit

Naina: but how much does mana love papa? Go on baby! Mummy won't be hurt

Mana: mana love papa 105. Mostest in the world

Naina: and you know about the little baby who's coming?

Mana: yes mana big sister

Naina: so mana... no Raj she needs to hear it.

Papa loves mana 100 but loves little baby 105.

Mana looked shocked and stared in a bewildered way at Naina and Raj

Mana: why? Mana good girl.

She walked up to Raj and was crying by now.

Mana: mana become gooder papa. Why you not love me?

Raj: no baby! I love you the mostest.

Naina: Mana your papa doesn't love you the most.. he can't because you aren't...
Raj; SHUT UP! Shut up I said. Papa can you take mana from here

Kunal picked up mana and took her away to calm her down

Raj swung around and was blazing with anger

Raj: are you out of your mind Naina??!!!

I had reached out to shef for counsel

Naina: and this pregnancy changed everything didn't it.

You should make it clear how this baby will be most special for you.

Will you give it more attention than mana?

More part of your estate?

More love?

I'll make sure she understands that you are a second priority in her life. That she'll get leftovers from the baby's share of everything.

That she isn't really your daughter

For the first time in his life Raj had slapped someone and that person was Naina!

Awesome ya..I second Raj on that..she deserves it..Too much of overthinking..And involving a small child..She has lost her senses
