Hello Swan, good luck with moving.
Kalpana I have not met one collector in my days in India, here every person is a collector of some sort. That bug bit me (and a confluence of good news 11 years ago) has made me a Ganesha collector too

Sorry we crashed early last night. I volunteer for Habitat (no not pounding nails on the wall) but sitting in back room meetings to talk about which family will get the next house. The meeting was last night and the Scouts had a celebration for Olympics

It's space availability - u can only store only so much in a 600 sq ft apartment back home growing up. Extra is what you can fit in the loft. But when u have 3000+ sq ft houses with basement, attic, multipe garages, people jump into the collection' mode automatically I guess.

Nisha - I'm amazed by the energy you have to do stuff apart from work, kids and home ! Kudos to you !

I am somewhat like you too. I invite people over to my home, cook feed entertain and have fun. I have done this social thing a lot already. My state has little diversity and when we moved here 20+ years ago, we were one of a handful of families in the entire state so I was out and about promoting India and its culture both at the workplace and at home and at public events, scripting MCing hosting participating at India events

As the population of our makkal grows the nastiness increases exponentially, its linear always. I have largely stayed insulated.

This was a recommendation made by someone at my site who happened to be at a leadership meeting yesterday

I dont want to disappoint him I have a lot of gratitude towards him for various reasons (he is not part of my org nor ever handed me an out of turn promotion or anything) so I gave the nod

Tabse I am just uneasy

I suggested I would get Holi colors if that hasnt been talked about already (the committee met before I joined it looks like)

A gal responded (Oh we only want organic colors and someone already knows where to get them)

I know it will be like pulling teeth

Oh no Don't be sorry Nisha. You are already giving us a lot of your time. We couldn't be asking for more. Thank you loads .

I wouldn't call myself a collector but woodcarvings, the wall art ones does catch my fancy now and then, which then I end up buying . The wood cuts are little heavy and one needs to plan prior to putting it up on the wall . I remember our wall in Gurgoan wasn't strong to support one such piece . Got a chunk of the cement out. Not in to sculpture by any means. They are insanely expensive. Over the last decade or so I have bought for my home, here and there in wood and brass.. mind you, not the terribly fancy or expensive ones, but those that appeal to my senses. Hubs is very fond of Ganesha and elephant forms.

I agree one is space constraints but another issue to contend if you look to collect in India is the grime and dust that settles on these pieces. Grease settles in very Fast . Brass and silver looses its shine very quickly.

I used to gawk at these a lot a decade back as there wasn't extra cash flow to indulge in this. But I think this was lying dormant. If I look back, it all started when we were all small children. Remember all the south temples with their grand architecture, be it Tanjore, or Madurai Meenakshi or Trichi malikottai or Udipi krishna , these temples were all lined up with small shops and one had to walk past these small street vendors at Least a km before you reached the temple entrance. The chandan and dhoop fragrance of these shops were quite something, the smell of dark red Kumkum and camphor was all so addictive.

When Amma and patti used to be looking at lamps, dhoopakal 5 or 7 camphor ones and other brass utensils to buy, I used to tag along. I quite enjoyed looking at those unique pieces . Our children might never know such pleasures.

I'm feeling so light about this weekend already. Would there be more involuntary intimacies to look forward to in these wedding rituals. The ones that Avantika will find hard to ignore?? He has to definitely get her bab bab ba!!! 😆 😆

What has Harit noticed so far about Avantika, Nisha! We are totally clueless about Avantika's appearance except she is not size zero, about 5'6 tall, has clear skin, long hair not sure if it is straight, wavy? Eyes - big? Complexion?

Can't believe I'm doing this jugs but I'm going to spin a theory here 😆 😆 Friday mood

Ok for me for this story for Avantika, I don't have anyone in mind but I'm working along the lines of her being a Gulabo with a round face, big eyes because lilac suits her well. Lilac is a an arresting color on its own , so I'm Going light for her skin complexion , not that it matters more.
In fact even Harit ,because of his jaw that tends to don a shadow of green follicles after a shave, he also has to be lighter in complexion 😆 😆 ... does my theory pass muster?? Ha Ha.. I gave this a thought after their engagement update .

But it's taking a little more time for me to pin a face to the leads in CKP compared to her other stories .
