I dedicate this to --Elara--, my darling Rams, who loves writing about Krishna and Jambavathi, and who writes it beautifully!
JUST ANOTHER HAPPY DAY
A beautiful woman walked in a beautiful garden, her mind on her Lord, her heart and soul ever fixated on Him. Her tan skin shone against the orangish rays of the setting Sun, as a lovely breeze blew by, making her cream coloured clothes flutter gently. Her hands were filled with bangles, while her feet tinkled with the sound of anklets. Her slim waist had a waist ornament designed with peacock feathers. She knew that her two eldest co-wives had worked together with their Revathi Jiji to make this for her. A tradition they all followed. When Kalindi had come, she, Rukmini and Satyabhama made Kalindi a necklace with the colours of the peacock feather. When Nagnajiti had come, they had made her two armlets, designed like peacock feathers. And her heart told her that the five of them were yet incomplete, as they knew their Lord Himself felt incomplete.
"Jambavathi"
Warm hands held her shoulders, and she smiled lovingly, even as goosebumps ran all over her body, at His very touch.
"Swami", she said, turning to touch His feet.
Krishna gently lifted her up, and smiled at her, love for her dancing in His eyes. She blushed, and turned at least five shades darker than she already was. She was glad Satyabhama was not around. She would tease and tease her till she turned red and buried her face in a cushion.
"I know what you are thinking", said Krishna, laughing. "Wait till Bhama hears about this!"
"Swami, what do you mean?", said Jambavathi, pouting. "She already knows"
"That you don't want her around?", asked Krishna, innocently.
"Arya Putra!", said Jambavathi, hands on her hips. "How can I not want Bhama around? Don't I love her? Don't I show it out? Do I do something wr... Swami!"
Jambavathi's look of outrage had Krishna laughing loudly.
"Your reaction is always priceless", said Krishna, laughing continuously.
"Stop teasing me Arya!", said Jambavathi, tears forming in her eyes.
"My love", said Krishna, tenderly wiping the tears from her eyes. Cupping her chin, He said, "Never cry. Your beautiful Lotus eyes need to always shine in happiness. Only then can I ever think of being happy"
"Arya", said Jambavathi, shyly. "That is not true"
"It very much is," said Krishna. "You are my life, Priye. I can't survive without you"
"Am I?", asked Jambavathi, her eyes sparkling.
"You most definitely are", said Krishna, hugging her to Him, smiling happily.
Jambavathi snuggled into Him, her smile showing the bliss she felt.
"Nath?", said Jambavathi, her voice coming out muffled.
"My love?", asked Krishna, gently swaying with her in His arms.
"Tell me something", said Jambavathi, matching her steps with His, and swaying as well.
"What should I?", asked Krishna.
"Anything my Lord", said she, grin on her face.
"Do you want to know what I thought when I first saw you?", asked Krishna, a mischievous grin lighting on His face.
"Will you tell me?", asked Jambavathi, shyly, burying her face into His chest.
Laughing affectionately, He sat on the grass, seating her on His lap.
"When I first saw you, you were holding the Syamantaka Mani", said Krishna. "And you know what I thought?"
"Tell me?", said Jambavathi, looking at Him eagerly.
"That your radiance outshone the Syamantaka Mani's radiance", said Krishna, lovingly smiling as He saw a dark blush cover His wife's beautiful face.
"That is not true", said Jambavathi, looking down at her hands.
"It is only the truth", said Krishna, lifting her chin up. "And when our eyes met, I knew. I knew that you were mine, and that I was yours. That our love story was just starting"
Jambavathi stared at Him, speechless.
"Do you know the reason you were found by Jambavan?", asked Krishna.
"Tell me my Lord?", asked Jambavathi, smiling at Him.
"He asked Sita to be born to him as his daughter. And she, seeing his true love and want for her as his daughter, blessed him with the boon, saying that she will take nine forms in Dwapar, in which one of them will be his daughter", said Krishna. "And you were the gem Jambavan got"
"I am not a gem my Lord", said Jambavathi.
"You are", said Krishna, gently cupping her cheeks. "You are a gem. You are my gem"
Jambavathi stared up at Krishna, love for Him twinkling in her eyes, when she suddenly felt her legs buckle, and darkness invade her. All she could feel was His arms lifting her up.
Jambavathi heard familiar voices talking, and a loving hand caressing her hair, while two different hands rubbed her own hands. She slowly opened her eyes, and squinted, suddenly shocked by the amount of light that entered her eyes. She looked up, only to meet those loving eyes that sparkled and lit a fire in her heart. She felt her own lips smile back at Him, as she took in His features greedily. She could never get enough of Him!
"How are you feeling Krishnasundari?", asked Satyabhama, gently rubbing her hands.
"I am fine Hiranmayi", said Jambavathi, shaking her head. This was their favourite game, and each of them called the other that.
"Only you two", said Rukmini, exasperation mingled with concern.
"And you are what exactly, Rukmini?", asked Satyabhama, arching an eyebrow elegantly. Jambavathi almost burst into laughter. Satyabhama seemed to be learning from Dau.
"An innocent person", said Rukmini. "Arya will agree with me"
"I am not even getting in between you Lakshmis of mine", said Krishna. "That is a recipe for disaster"
"Arya knows", said Satyabhama, giggling. "You are as bad as I am"
"I am not Arya's accomplice, Bhama", said Rukmini. "You are"
"There is that", said Bhama, impishly grinning.
Rukmini shook her head, and turned her attention to Jambavathi.
"How are you, sweetheart?", asked Rukmini, gently.
"I feel fine. In fact, better than fine", said Jambavathi, slowly sitting up. "What did happen to me?"
She looked at Krishna, after asking the question. He smiled at her knowingly, widening His eyes, and asking her what it could be. Puzzled, she continued to look at Him, when she suddenly felt her hand on her stomach. She looked down, and knew the truth! She blushed, and looked at Him, smiling at the wide grin He now sported.
Their love came with the fruit of another child, and Jambavathi sat there, on His lap, with His arms around her, laughing with Him and her co-wives, later on being joined by Dau and Revathi Jiji. Their little family was complete, as all the kids ran into the room, and ran around, making all the parents enjoy every second. And soon enough, another baby will also join the group!
It was just another happy day at Dwaraka!
