Chapter 220- Sister's meeting

The Vaccination camp at Somalatha Devi's ashram was a success. Many people came as Somalatha Devi personally endorsed the benefits of vaccination. The volunteers in the ashram, along with members of Varma family and some other like-minded citizens worked tirelessly to manage the crowd. Renu, Vindhya and couple of other ladies managed a help desks where they distributed vaccination books to the women who came with babies explaining how the book has to be interpreted.

Maheswari and some elder ladies supported the doctor and staff in calming down ladies who cried when they saw injection being given to babies. Suman, Vaishnav, Poorni, Sreedhar were all managing the food section where they gave water and snacks to the waiting people. Special provision was made to distribute milk also for very young babies.

Once it was done Meenakshi thanked Somalatha Devi for her support. Somalatha Devi asked whether she can check on having similar camps for pregnant ladies as well as eye check and dental checkup for poor patients. Meenakshi told surely she will work with hospital authorities to conduct such camps.

Then she turned to Maheswari. " Maaji in two days Navarathri is starting. I am organizing a small Jagratha at my home on the starting day. I will be very happy if you come with family for the same"

" Meena I would have definitely wanted to come. But beta starting day of Navrathri I cannot leave everything at home and come. Ladies will come for haldi-kumkum, even we will have to go to their places for haldi-kumkum. So for your place let Suman and Poorni along with Sreedhar come. Yours will be one place apart from our home where Suman can enjoy Navrathri as you very well know the reality. People will go to Suman for business, but still she is a taboo in most homes for festivals like this"

Meenakshi was happy. Though two more members of Varma family were there she could find some private time with Suman to let her know who she was. Mandavi had called and told about Suman knowing about them.

" I understand Maaji. In Defense quarters we don't make such distinctions. For us the widows there are martyrs wives who had made the supreme sacrifice for the nation"

Suman, Poorni and Sreedhar entered the Defense quarters and asked for Airforce officer Ajay Rathod's house . As Sreedhar drove towards their quarters he couldn't but stare Suman through the side view mirror. Suman was wearing the saree Gautham had gifted her and she had put some lip gloss and had put her pallu down too. Sreedhar smiled. Though she shouted at him, she always tried to look the way he wanted to see her.

As Sreedhar parked the car Meenakshi ushered in Suman and Sree. Suman handed over thali of fruits and nuts to Meenakshi which she had bought as Prasad for the Goddess. Soon other people starting pouring in. Pandit came and Jagratha started.

It was early morning by the time Jagratha was completed and prasad was distributed. When Suman tried to bade good bye to Meenakshi

" Suman you three are going only after breakfast "

" Didi..." Sreedhar tried to intervene

" No ifs and buts. I couldn't spend enough time with you yesterday as there were many guests"

Then she showed them the guest room where they could freshen up. Sreedhar freshned up fast and came out to talk with Meenakshi's husband. Then Suman and Poorni went in.

Meenakshi looked on. If only Poornima could come out she could speak to Suman.

" Didi you don't have to worry. You can come in. Poorni knows who you are " told Suman looking at a stunned Meenakshi hovering outside the guest room.

" Didi Gautham Bhaiyya had called and told about you. Well in my family this niece of mine is my good friend and secret keeper. "

" Suman that means my little sister have more secrets" came in Meenakshi.

" If you think that way let it be didi" told Suman as Meenakshi came in. Soon the sisters spend some time chatting about everything. Suman asking about their life. Meenakshi talking about her mother's struggle. Suman told Meenakshi about Devika and Meenakshi told she will soon visit Devika also. She said her mother will come to Jaipur for Diwali and Suman can meet her Taiji then. She told Mandavi has sent her wishes and will try to meet her as soon as she can manage some leaves to come to Jaipur. Suman looked at the photos of her Taiji and Mandavi didi as Meenakshi showed the family album. Mandavi looked so similar to her.

Soon they had breakfast with Meenakshi and family and told them they will meet at Varma's place for the Jagratha on Durgasthami day. Once in the car Suman looked happy and over the course of journey she told everything Meenakshi told her to Sreedhar, with Poorni adding information in between.

" So your didi told you everything, but then you have not still told her who I am " told Sreedhar and winked at her. Suman looked stunned for a moment and then understanding he was kidding they all laughed as the car entered the Varma driveway.

Sree such a tease... loved the milap... waiting for them to know the entire truth of each other.

Loved the way Sree tries to keep sumi on her toes. Jokes with her, let's her feel confident n more importantly happy. The last para was the best. Love seeing them happy. N MV ko mega pranaam. Love the way she likes to tag Sree n sumo where ever she can
