Chapter 211- The Acid Attack
It was late night when Suman Vindhya Sreedhar and Aakash returned after Agra Cultural Fest. But when they entered they were surprised to see entire family was there. Their faces looked grim.
" Maa what happened. Why are you all looking very tense" asked Sreedhar.
Maheswari gently went to Suman and looked at her. " Suman we need to visit your home tomorrow. I am also coming"
" My home, tomorrow what happened Maa. Is my mother fine" asked Suman her eyes showing panic.
" Suman your mother is fine. But as per the information we have your brother Jatin is battling for life in ICU " told Maheswari as gently as possible.
" What happened to him" asked Suman and Maheswari could see though she was concerned there was no panic in her eyes.
" Suman I don't know the entire truth. But after hearing some rumour I called your home and talked to Amrit, your brother who came here that day. What he told was your brother Jatin threw acid on a girl called Radhika for rejecting his love. There were people who saw it. So when police came to arrest him, your family allowed them to arrest Jatin. But it seems by evening Radhika died and her family entered the prison and beat Jatin brutally. I have spoken to Devika also. She also will come with you tomorrow. " told Sudhir.
Suman nodded but as she went up her thought was why her allowed police to arrest Jatin. They would have gone any extend to protect their son. Sreedhar too mused in his room why Suman's family allowed the arrest of their son.
" Your daughter's bad deeds have landed my son in trouble. He is battling for life because of Suman" shouted Bhadra at Bhavani. They had come home after the doctor told only one person can sit in hospital and Jatin's father decided to stand there
" My daughter's bad deeds. The blood of daughters of this family has come to take your son Bhadra bhabi. Well who asked the great Rajputs to give Jatin to police. What would they have lost if Radhika's father made Suman's affair public" hissed back Bhavani.
" Bhavani your daughter has bought disgrace to the family and you are defending her" shouted Virender.
" Chachu Suman loved a man. If we had put some effort to know who he was maybe we could have honorably married her to him. But Jatin has thrown acid at a lady. Suman is not criminal. Jatin is. Bhavani Chachi is right. Amita is demanding justice Chachu. You have killed daughters for sons. Now to protect your honor, you have to give away your son. I would be lying if I tell I am sad. In a way I am happy Chachu, atleast now learn to understand you cant protect sons killing daughters" told Amrit.
" Also Virender everyone is not like this family. Radhika's family valued her. The upbringing which Jatin got in this family finally showed the true colors. He couldn't understand educated girls no longer wants boorish boys like him" told Bhavani.
" Bhavani you are calling my Jatin boorish. Your daughter.."
" Bhabi my daughter has been given good upbringing. Has any complaint come from her sasural on her behavior. Even your daughter's mother in law now and then calls and complains about Jatin's elder sister. Has Maheswariji told anything about Suman" retorted Bhavani.
" That's because they doesn't know the truth of Suman. What kind of a girl she is a girl who roamed with a guy in college" told Bhadra.
" Well go and tell that to Maheswariji bhabi. My daughter anyways is ready to die. She doesn't mind stones being thrown at or being tortured. She is used to everything" told Bhavani with a wry smile.
Virender looked at her. He very well knew Bhavani was confident they will not tell about Suman's affair to Varma family. Because then it wont be Suman who will be affected but the family prestige will be affected. He slammed his fist on the table.
" Bhabi I have to sleep. You better sit and pray to Murali Manohar for your son. Atleast do some repentance. Maybe he feels mercy on you" told Bhavani as she walked to her room.
