"I AM NOT GOING TO PUT YOUR CLOTHES ON YOU" she declared walking out in a huff
Timely, as Nivi sat on the bed and yelled as the bed rail was up, she couldnt get down
She grabbed a robe and ran out and hauled her and set her down she ran to the bathroom something telling the tyke her Daddy was inside
He showed up a few minutes later wrapped in a robe, he cudnt pick her up she wrapped her arms around his calf and he walked around the house
"Chai peeyogey?" she asked staying yards away
"Beer?" he countered
"I am sorry not until you are off meds, you are off the rocker as it is" she said with a evil twinkle in her eyes
"II" he called
"No not another shower, or back rub, or hair comb or whatever.. YOU HAVE HANDS. I KNOW WHAT THEY ARE CAPABLE OF" she shouted
Nivi looked at her shocked
"Amma... " she cooed opening and closing her palm asking her to go closer
"Po di" II ordered
"Amma must be sleepy huh?" he asked his daughter
"NO, Amma wants to smack Daddy" Ii cooed
"II" he called
"What do u want? I wanted to go read my Tamil magazines " she said
"Read it in bed" he urged
She helped him wear his sweats a lil apologetically, ended up brushing his curls methodically
"Do u need a man bun?" she asked seriously
He nodded leaning back on the over stuffed vanity bench, she pulled her rubber band off and bunched and rolled and deftly rolled it into a bun
He leaned forward and kissed her cleft
"Thanks" he muttered
"Kaise akele rehne ka iraada tha?" she demanded hurt about the fact that he hadnt wanted anyone to fly down
"I asked Alex to ask the housekeeper to cook some food" he said thoughtfully
She stepped back and admired the view
Nivi played with a giant comb on his lap
"This could have gone so bad u know" II said unhappily
"I am fine now"
"A TWO WEEK BREAK FROM SEX is not "fine" she mocked
"Look who is frustrated now" he chuckled softly
"Kyon? Sirf tum miss kar sakte ho?" she asked hurt
"Lets go to bed" he begged
"YA , yeh jagi hai" II hung the brush on her daughter's head after balling up loose hair from it
"We'll figure somethin out" he winked
they sat on the couch and watched a Elmo show with a mesmerized Nivi
II twisted herself in a knot trying to make Nivi read
He just watched amused as Nivi shunned books and went after everything in the bottom shelves of the floor to ceiling bookshelves
All of II's trinkets and lil souvenirs went for a toss...
"Rakshasi" II hissed grabbing her crying body and dumping her on the couch
"Go for a walk?" he asked his daughter as she crawled all over his reclining form
"Bye bye?" Nivi asked excited
"No bye bye, its WINTER and its after 8 PM, bed time
Nivi looked at her like she spoke German

"Running away and hiding in your office is not going to solve the problem you know" II stood in his office doorway holding a giggly Sahana, as she played peek a boo with a runny nose Vedu. Sid was trying to comb Chuck's mane
Nivi glared at him leaning on the doorjamb. Wearing palazzo pants and a skinny tee his almost 15 year old was a handful now
"what happened NOW?" he asked looking up from his monitor
"She told you she wanted to go to the year end dance, and you got up and walked away like nothing happened" II accused
The dogs stood solemnly at the doorway not daring to come in, groaning like cats
"Stay... Stay" II warned
They had "let themselves" in two weeks ago and had chewed up a licensing agreement (orginal swedish govt doc of some kind)for a health food startup
R&B was so furious, kids dogs and his wife were all banned from his room
Sahana turned to look at the dog and invited them in with her short stubby fingers

"daddy its from 6-9 I will be back at 9:20" Nivi claimed
Sid climbed on the couch and tried to grab a floating baloon, both boys fought over trying to grab a string
R&B was not happy, he gave II the "look"
"What do u want me to do?" II shouted
"I said she cant go" he said bluntly
"THAT IS SO UNFAIR" Nivi shrieked
"Oh yeah? Try this... keep this outrage up and you are grounded from going to Macy's for two weeks" he said with a humorless smile
Nivi began to weep
"What is wrong with you?" II was mad
"You know whats wrong with me? N-O-T-H-I-N-G" he bit out "Youve let them walk al over you and now they demand atrocious things" he said his eyes like chips of ice
Sahana slid off her arms and waddled to R&B from under the giant cherrywood desk
He grabbe dher and sat her down on his lap
"I kinda like them in this age only" he said bitterly
"Thanks Daddd!!" Nivi scowled "I guess I dont get any of your love then?" she cried harder
The dogs barked at R&B
"Oh shut up" he ordered
They barked some more
"Thats quite an army you have there punkin" he said sarcastically
"they know you are horrible" Nivi sniffled "They cant even come into the ROOM" Nivi yelled
"Do not conflate issues... the room's a mess... they tore up originals two weeks ago" he said calmly
II got the boys off the couch's armrest and they climbed on the end tables... she couldnt keep up after a point, she turned to him for help
"didnt he have a cold?" he stood up tilting his head at Vedu
Sahana screamed as she wanted another cheese cube on the cracker cheese tray... a bottle of some craft beer sat near his keyboard
"Yeah... he DOES... but Nandu is here, the others went to swim, he went too, he wouldnt listen... Dad said I am too strict" II mumbled
"Huh" he grunted disapprovingly
"SOOO I TOOK A NAP" she said smugly
"Up here?" he asked shocked
"Where else? Unless u wanted an empty floor... not that I cared..."
He wandered up to her and exhaled... "Send the kids downstairs?"
"Why? so we can claw each others' eyes out?" she accused
Nivi was texting on her phone
Sahana tipped the almost empty beer bottle on the persian rug...
the dogs looked forlorn, hoping they wud be invited to lick the golden goodness...
II sat down panting on the couch, patting Vedu down for a nap
"Cam we go to WOHINI?" Sid asked pointing to the window
"Sure... if you want to escape" he mumbled gathering and kissing him soundly, sitting by his wife
Sahana ran towards them and climbed in the center cursing her brothers
"Please let her go?" II whispered
OFCOURSE NIVI HEARD THAT
She looked up.. from her perch, sitting on the dge of his work desk
"Not now II please" R&B ordered
"I am telling Macy, Daddy doesnt like me anymore" Nivi threw on his face
"Can u take the kids downstairs please?" he yawned and leaned on the couch, closing his eyes
Sid pulled the lid off the purple marker he found on the end table and drew on his face

Vedu began to sleep and so did the dogs... after not getting any crumbs from their Sahana overlord
"You need to give me some time" he said to Nivi gruffly
Nivi's eyes lit up
"yes... yes... yes... that means can I go?"
"Well.. we dont know yet" he said calmly
Sahana slid off the couch and walked over to the cheese tray and tried to grab... but it was too high on the desk, she got on his swivel chair, slid closer and grabbed two handfuls, crushing crackers in the process
And walked over and dropped them in front of the dogs...
The dogs were elated... II couldnt even yell so as to not startle a congested sick Vedu
She picked up a cube from the floor and ate...
"Sahannaaa" Nivi ran up and picked her up
"Things she will do to go" he muttered
"Amma cam I have chweese?" Sid demanded
"Sure.. go eat with the dogs raja" II muttered
R&B gave her a look again
"Can I come up in 10 minutes?" Nivi asked holding a kicking and screaming Sahana
"How about tomorrow?" R&B lied
"I have to turn in my slip tomorrow, Amma says I shudnt bother you in the morning you are always on the phone?" Can Dadu sign my form?" she begged
"Oh he wud love to wouldnt he?" R&B asked cynically
"Shut up" II hissed
"Amma you said SUTH UP... OH... OH... OH" Sid pretended to be horrified clamping a hand on his mouth
He ate like a thief... at the study desk
Nivi left reluctantly as she pretended to take care of her sibling...
"Will there be pictures, and hairdo and all that nonsense?" he demanded
II squirmed

"Things change you know... I NEVER went to a prom. YET I want her to go" II said sardonicaly
"So its a competition now?" he demanded
She went quiet
"This is insane... II... I am unable to shake the feeling that it wont be JUST a dance" he said agonized
"Kitna protective ko apni beti ko lekar" II let her envy slip out
Sid sat under the table with the full tray of grapes, crackers and cheese
Sahana ate with the dogs and from her brother's tray
Sid walked over and dropped a few extra for them...
"Iam ferocious about all my girls" he said wrapping an arm around her shoulders
