Harry returned to his office to find Ginny there.

"Hey, you're back." Harry smiled as he kissed her in a manner of greeting. "Everything went well at the Ministry?" He asked as he sat down on his headmaster chair and Ginny sat opposite him.

"Yeah, Hermione took the position but it wasn't as ceremonious as it should have been. Latnok still felt it was wrong of you to have put Hermione forward for this as she was imperiused twice by Riddle, Voldemort from his perspective. Tom and Riddle doing well?" She asked by the way.

"Don't ask. They've been more trouble than I anticipated." replied Harry with a frown on his face. "Just-_" Harry was about to tell Ginny about what had happened today when his office door opened up and Ron and Hermione entered.

"Hey mate." Ron hugged Harry the moment he reached him. It was a curious habit that had taken over him because of Tom.

"Hi, Harry." Hermione greeted him and hugged him in turn as Ron let go of him.

"Congratulations." Harry congratulated her as Ron conjured out more chairs for the two of them.

"Don't bother, Latnok wasn't happy." replied Hermione looking dead serious.

"Why? Did something happen?" asked Harry as they all sat down.

"Nothing big, but he wouldn't look at Hermione, congratulated her like he had just belched out a couple of slugs out of his mouth and completely blew me off when I approached him to know who he was sending here to teach." replied Ron.

"At least he kept his word and is doing exactly as I'm asking him to do." said Harry.

"Oh, yes," said Hermione as she suddenly remembered. "Malfoy's, Estella's and Roy's trial was held in the courts yesterday. Malfoy and Estella were declared deatheaters, it'll be all over the Daily Prophet by tomorrow. There is no sign of Voldemort or any of his deatheaters anywhere. Aurors are looking all over. Latnok suggested we interrogated Scorpio-_"

"No, Scorpio will not be involved in any of this." said Harry. He didn't want him to pay for his father's mistakes.

"But Harry, if he knows something, it'll only help us find them."

"I don't want to involve any of my students into this and Hermione Scorpio's as old as James is. Neither of them are of age and they must be kept away from all this. Malfoy's son or not, Scorpio's a student of this school and his protection and safety remains with me."

"Harry, I don't think Latnok's going to change his mind. If you'll not interrogate him, he'll ask his sent teacher to do it." said Ron who knew Latnok would not back off his decision. And by what Latnok knew of Tom, Harry was afraid for Malfoy to get caught as well, because he knew everything. If he told Latnok the truth, Tom's life will be in danger. It'd be all that Latnok would need to send him to Azkaban for no reason at all.

"We'll think about that when his teacher arrives. What about Roy?"

"We were able to get Roy off his charges, all he needs to do now, is show up and verify the story we've presented in front of the court and he has a clear record, moreover, Latnok, put fowards something else. He said Roy could spy for us. That way we'd now of Voldemort's plans."

"What! Hermione, you should have said we can't guarantee that."

"Well, I did say that but Latnok was all for if you can't find and convince him, the Ministry will do it. So, I said we could do that and we'll keep the court reported. The auror department will act on the information we'll get from Roy. And think of it Harry, if the Ministry tried to perform with Roy, Malfoy would know of it immediately. He infiltrated the Ministry quite well before running off. It's better if we did it and Roy stayed away from the Ministry."

"I'll not keep him here, Hermione." said Harry knowing quite clearly what she meant.

"I don't think we have any other options Harry. That's the only way Roy would gain Malfoy's trust back. He would play the double game. Spy on him for us-_"

"And pretend to spy on us for him?"

"Exactly!" said Hermione.

"Like Snape did." said Ginny.

"But Ginny, it's different this time. I can't keep Roy here. And besides Malfoy would never trust him no matter what help he needs to bring back Voldemort. Malfoy knows Roy wants to kill him to avenge Rabastian."

"Try explaining that to Latnok! And why can't you keep Roy here?" asked Hermione not knowing how bad he had hurt Tom or how crucial it was for Tom to stay away from him.

"Hermione, you know what passed between him and Tom."

"Oh, c'mon, Harry. This is much bigger than Tom and Roy. Tom will have to deal with him. I mean, you dealt with Snape hovering over you all the time staring at you loathingly."

"That was different. I didn't know the reason for his hatred towards me, and don't you remember what happened when I found out. I pointed every finger of blame on to him and the same's going to happen if Roy comes here."

"But you got to know the truth, eventually."

"Hermione, look," said Harry, not wanting to argue anymore. "Tom's not well. You don't know what's going on here. If Roy comes here, it'll only make things worse for him."

"Harry, we can't compromise Voldemort to protect Tom. We can't risk Voldemort slipping through our fingers for him. And he started it all in the first place. He's the one who's going to have to make a few adjustments." Hermione had spoken out of pure frustration. And she was a little angry at Tom. He had behaved like a complete kid, following Roy right of the Castle to the Ministry, had trusted two people he hardly knew blindly and then lost his mind and attacked her, choked her and had nearly killed her.

"Hermione, how could you say that? You know none of it was his fault. And you have no idea what would happen if Roy came here. Hermione, Tom could die!" Harry had practically shouted and for the first time in the entire conversation he heard concern in her voice.

"What do you mean?" She asked him slowly.

"Hermione, his powers are unstable, he is unable to control them. Only today he nearly killed himself trying to produce a summoning charm and a shield charm. He moves a muscle and things around him blow to bits. If soon he is not able to control his powers he'll have the same fate as Ariana."

"But Harry, how would Roy-_"

"You don't understand! Riddle told me. Tom needs to organize himself, clear his head of all emotions, focus on one thing and that's his powers. He's still working on how to get over his fear of that dagger Riddle stabbed him with, in a few days we'll have Latnok's teacher here tailing him around the place and over all that if we bring Roy here, his entire concentration will be on him, he'll not be able to clear his head and Hermione if he doesn't get any better in the next few months he'll die!"

"Harry, I'm sorry, I didn't know." said Hermione suddenly more concerned than ever. And Ron looked like he'll throw up. Harry didn't like that look on either of their faces. "But it's not in our hands Harry. The decision was already made in the courts. Latnok made it. If we back out of it now, there'll be severe consequences."

"Hermione, I don't care what consequences we'll have to face, but nothing matters to me more than Tom's life does."

"No, Harry, you don't understand. It's official. Latnok just passed a bill. If we, that is to say, you and I are not able to do this under our supervision then the Ministry will do it, its own way. The post of the Minister for Magic will be transferred to Percy who had been an undersecretary to the Minister for years and you will be removed from Hogwarts and Latnok will replace you. And under the supervision of the two of them the same plan will be followed. You know Perce, he hates Tom because he blames him for Bolt's death like half the Army does and because we support him I don't think he'll listen to anything we've got to say. The best I know, Harry, is that Latnok's waiting for you to refuse, so he can indulge himself into this. You know he already suspects Tom. Being here would reveal to him the presence of Riddle. Tom will be in danger anyhow. And apart from all that Harry the balance of power will shift again. And I don't think we'll survive it this time, any of us." Harry stared at Hermione lost for any words as she finished gravely amid a deadly silence. It seemed like Harry didn't have any choices left at all.
